Quite misleading first impressions on my part. Before taking a peak into its contents, I had thought Asagiri no Miko would be a historical piece with the overall mood being "mystical". Given the title, I expected something more historical and not so much about school life coated with comedy. But this wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
I did not like the opening or ending songs. They are likeable, but the DVD menu strangled and mutilated them. It would play repetitively, it was not a pretty sound. I'm sure I can give the OP a chance, but not the ED. Rap and Engrish don't sit quite well with me. Next to the music, the worst aspect of this anime was the ending of each episode, they didn't have a good conclusive feel. With each episode ending, you'd have to wonder what exactly you learned or gained from that episode.
The story was straight forward, but not interesting. The plot, in a way shifted gears half way through the anime. The thought-to-be male protagonist did not even receive half the screen time of what Yuzu gave. Well, this is another point we can let go. Tadahiro isn't such an interesting character anyway.
What I enjoyed most about Asagiri no Miko was definitely the humour. They would take overplayed, cliche lines and joke about it. This anime had almost the same style as Sailormoon. That is, each girl had a specific power (or in this case, weapon) and would use the same move over and over to defeat the enemy. But Asagiri no Miko isn't afraid to make fun of itself.
The ending seemed a bit rushed, but it came to some sort of conclusion. The art was good, animation was good, character design was attractive, same with the voice work. The animation did evidently dumb down in a few episodes. In short, Asagiri no Miko was a fun watch, its flaws can be easily looked over in order to enjoy this anime. | |
