It was very cute, but kind of unappealing at the same time. Seems like an oxymoron, yes? Well, the romance tickled my heart. There were some neat character relationships between the young students, but nothing extreme since Naisho no Tsubomi only spans between 3 OVA. The unattractive part of this were the topics. Yes, they'll talk about periods, genitalia, wet dreams. It was odd to see these topics being thought about in their everyday lives. These are third graders we're talking about.
Well, I'm sure the purpose of this was to educate. They made the almost contrasting cutesy animation with puberty topics for a reason. Naisho no Tsubomi is certainly different. I cannot think of any anime like this one. There is Kyou no Go no Ni which portrays grade five students in sexually perverse situations, but the atmosphere of Kyou no 5-2 was VERY different. It was pretty much fanservice! Naisho no Tsubomi was made to educate instead of woo the audience. Then I think of Lucky Star, an anime that sort of educated fans, but the topics were of little value and it was sometimes very nerdy.
I don't really want to rag on the storyline or any other elements. As said before, Naisho no Tsubomi was meant to teach. However, I was quite entertained throughout it all anyway. What I liked most was the heart throbbing romance! It was little school crushes, and I found it adorable. The storyline was a bit predictable. Also, the art was very nice! Lovely bright colours. Characters were a bit sketch-like, and this title didn't do too well with darker scenes. But overall, an enjoyable title. I managed to giggle a few times. | |
