BOOBS.
Such oversized mammary glands! If you're thinking of watching this be prepared for some bouncy bon bons. Some distracting boobage. Sekirei probably produced the largest sets of breasts in anime I've ever seen (aside from the obvious and ridiculous Eiken). This isn't really a complaint though. At least there were a variety of sizeable breasts. It was certainly distracting, in fact, so distracting I don't remember much about the character names, faces, or storyline.
Well... that's because the storyline was poorly executed. The worst of it was: they brought out a story and didn't even conclude it. Yes, yes, so they have a sequel - so what? That is not an excuse to NOT conclude a story. There was still many things to learn. Characters had little depth. Also, there were SO many characters. Just from hearing that there are 108 (I think) Sekirei, I knew it was gonna be a whackload of girls. This forced romance is truly harem. A bunch of highly attractive women who swoon over a really, really normal guy. Why they like him is almost pathetic
The OP and ED themes were "okay". I'd even jump to say that they're a little on the cheesy side. While the songs or intro/outro themes certainly won't be nominated as the best, it certainly was fun. They're not worth remembering, but it can easily get stuck in your head.
Sekirei has many bad points but it's admittedly enjoyable. The female AND male cast are attractive. While the fanservice can be ridiculous, it lives up to its title a lot of the times. It was fun to guess the abilities of each character. A lot of the characters also present a lot of mystery, which I find very attractive (especially in the landlady). For the action, they played some great music to enhance the "cool" factor. Animation wasn't so great, but the fighting was still very entertaining to watch.
I really liked the voice work. I did recognize some seiyuu, and I found that they fit very well with the character portrayed. My favourite voice work would have to be the busty water Sekirei (Tsukiumi). Tsukiumi's character was quite cute as well.
Wow, this review turned out longer than I'd hoped. All in all, this had glaring holes in plot and character depth. I managed to enjoy it, but nothing was gained. If you're overly analytical then I can't say you'll enjoy Sekirei very much. So watch this expecting big boobs and tons of fanservice and you'll be looking forward to the devised sequel. | |
