This may be one of the funniest shows out there. That is, if you have perverted humour, which I am guilty of 0:3. Each episode is saturated with bulgeoning pants, bosoms, and drooling mouths. There were many times when it was oh-so-inappropriate, but it was equally oh-so-HILARIOUS.
It's Onizuka as a teenager, you get to see the base development of him before he becomes a great teacher. He's less charming and less daring, but much more violent and brute. You can't go wrong here.
The series is pretty episodic, where you have a spotlight lady or ladies come and go in one OVA. It's a different lady for almost all five episodes, but I always root for romance. Alas, there is no satisfaction of their young hearts. Actually, I teared up in one scene, which was very surprising. Because throughout all the fighting and perverted comedy - they managed to bring in angst.
One of the notably funny episode was the "turtle comparison". You will not get what I mean unless you have watched this or have read the manga. Let's say it has to do with phalluses.
The fights were pretty brutal. A lot of the times, it made me wince. The animation was dated, so you can let that go. I thought the planning was great. They had a good background story, but I don't think it was executed very well. Production costs seemed questionable especially for episode 4. But overall, Shonan Junai Gumi was still very fun. | |
