I completed this OVA with some effort. It wasn't horribly bad, but it wasn't wholly genius either. Most of the time, it was boring. There's nothing new to be presented for Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel. What you see here is what you've seen everywhere else. The one unique thing is the ED theme for the first episode, it shows all sorts of art styles. I believe they have different character artists to draw their depiction of the Twin Angels, very neat! I know Uta~Kata did that, but not as an ED sequence.
Another better-than-average point about Twin Angel is the art aspect. The magic tricks were very imaginative. The battle sequences were full of flair. In fact, the animated fight scenes reminded me of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (which had SUPERB magical battles). The graphics were truly "pretty".
I am so glad that they didn't infiltrate this with ridiculous loli fanservice. There was little to no fanservice here. It's a short series, doing something like that would be meaningless. I actually thought this was some sort of parody, seeing "Mystery Knight-sama" and all. He sooooo reminded me of cheesy tuxedo mask with his stupid mask, stupid cape and stupid flinging around of roses. It was hilarious! Alas, I don't think that's what they were going for.
The main themes would be friendship, strength, and bonds. These topics aren't emphasized much nowadays. So I commend the production staff to reviving a classic theme. There were some good lines thrown around during the dialogue, some notable quotes. Unfortunately, the plot was kind of poor. Events were very predictable. Makes me wonder what the main goal of producing this two part OVA is?
Again, it was a short series to truly give an accurate review of. It was somewhat enjoyable, but you're not missing much if you don't look into Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel. | |
