Woo. Another anime production regarding someone with some sort of amnesia. Woopee. I don't mean to belittle Sky Crawlers. It was an entertaining watch. I really liked the main insert song, it was beautiful. There was superior animation and some quirky events. However, I couldn't grasp their main message. Could not find the answer to why this movie was created.
The conclusion was a bit short-lived. This was very surprising considering that the movie felt very long. In fact, I believe there were many ways to end Sky Crawlers. Not to say that the ending was poor. It was a good balance of some wrap up, and leaving things to the imagination.
Sky Crawlers is not a movie for kids. There seems to be this main theme of smoking (cigarettes) throughout the movie. I'm guessing it poses something really significant, which I'm not really interested in looking much into. Another reason why this is more for adult viewers is because of the implied prostitution and the use of guns. Surely, a lot of shows nowadays freely show the use of guns, however, the way Sky Crawlers used the gun was not conventional.
Things were silent most of the time with a lot of still pans. Good screenshotable moments, but still very boring. Sky Crawlers was a very visually appealing movie. There were many shots that looked incredibly real. I was convinced that they had done an RL recording of ex. the close ups of the propeller or the fighter airplane scenes in the beginning.
Superb animation and CGI. In contrast, the characters looked very plain and were uninteresting. I was curious to get to know everyone's character, however, their actions didn't act up to much. The main character especially. He was always the silent enigma type. Never really reacted to anything. Couldn't warm up to him at all.
Plenty of good and plenty of meager areas. It's an admittedly entertaining movie. Not something I'd highly recommend. This was not a feel-good movie (it was rather sad+dramatic) actually. Finally, there was no evident main message. | |
