I found out this anime through the second season Meine Liebe Wieder, because I like bishonen anime so I watched it (since iIhave watched all good anime)
Story/plot: It started the story with the lives of the students at an elite academy, Rosenstolz Academy of the fictional European country of Kuchen in 1935.... well the story started boring and ended boring, i'll give it 6/10.
animation: the drawing style not bad, bishonen type, my favourite!! I'll give it 9/10
characters: the characters among them were Orpherus, Ludwig, Eduard, Naoji and Camus. The characters were not bad, at least was a satisfying group of pure bishie. Orpherus the prince type, Ludwig the wild cool type, Eduard the cheerful active type, Naoji the typical japs type, Camus shota type... among them Orpherus and Ludwig were my favourite!!! Orpherus reminds me of Tamaki Suou (Ouran), maybe because I like blonde guys. I'll give it 10/10
Well, if you guys have nothing to watch or bishonen fan, watch it then!! I'm bishonen fan, of course I'm gonna watch it!

This review is based off of seeing 11 episodes.
Firstly, if it was decent enough for me to watch 11 episodes of it, that should tell you something. This is not an action-packed anime. It can be a bit slow-moving at times because the focus of this series is getting to know the characters, their ideologies and plans for the Kingdom, and their intermingled loyalties. Most of the episodes thus far have been stand-alone, with random pieces every now and then hinting at a longer subplot.
The animation is nice except for when there is the occasional fight scene (and then the animation could be better). The faces in this show are very pretty and prettily shaded; they do tend to be expressionless, though. This is because all of the main characters are aristocrats and are trained not to let their emotions show through on any major level.
It's true that there are no girls who have anything close to a major part in this show. However, that isn't to say there are no girls; they show up now and then in flashbacks or main characters for an episode.
I think that this anime has the potential to be more exciting as the main characters get more chances to put their own particular dreams for the kingdom into use, but, as said before, the emphasis of this series right now is learning about the characters' pasts, what shaped their current dreams, and how they're letting those dreams affect them.

Well, I guess I need to say first of all that I thought the whole series was kind of funny because of the names. I am German, so it sure made me giggle.
Here a little translation ..
Kingdom Kuchen = Kingdom Cake
Strahl = ray of light
Rozenstolz Academy = Rosepride Academy
Orpherus Furst von Marmelade Nahe Gorz = Orpherus Prince of Jam near Gorz (yes, Marmelade = jam .. O_o)
Eduard Markgraf von Sekt Braunschweig = Eduard Margrave of Sparkling Wine Brunswick
Camus Pfalzgraf von Silvaner Luneberg = Camus Palsgrave of Silvaner Luneberg
Ludwig Herzog von Mohn Nahe Liechtenstein = Ludwig Duke of Poppy Seed near Liechtenstein
Now to the series itself .. I've only seen the first episode so far, so it's a first impression review. I thought the art was ok, yet it was badly animated. Faces seemed too expressionless, the plot was a little too obvious and seemed quite boring in my opinion. The characters were exclusively male, the only female character died after about 3 minutes (which is not necessarily a bad thing, is it girls? *grin*).
I am not sure if I will watch the second episode, since I thought the first to be pretty bad. Yet if I will watch it, I will update this review accordingly.
Jya matane! ^O^
