The first episode just had me begging for more, but the rest of the series quickly became a bore. Pale, lackluster coloring and cheap animation lower the enjoyment and execution of fight and gore scenes that make Hellsing exciting. The main protagonists and villains aren't characterized well, lacking any explanation of proper motivation and background for their actions. Hellsing also suffers from horribly slow story progression and a plot devoid of depth and direction; things "just happen" that don't clarify or progress the storyline. Instead, Hellsing just wastes time, making very little sense, and in doing so bores and confuses its audience with pointless events. Ultimately, these aggravating factors that are "all talk but no show" contribute to a perplexing and sloppily done finale that thankfully concludes this utterly pathetic series.

In England, the undead, vampires and ghouls are on the rise and are stalking the living, but the only people who can stop them are the members of the Hellsing organisation: Alucard (a Hellsing vampire), Seras Victoria (police girl turned into a vampire), Walter Dornez (the butler for Hellsing) and Sir Integra Wingates (the leader of Hellsing).

Although HELLSING has cool animation, a cool theme song, badass characters and weapons (especially Alucard's handguns, which are almost bigger than him), it lacks longer lasting action scenes, good dialogue and character development, which would've made the cartoon a lot more likeable.
The action scenes last for a lot less than a minute, I don't see why there are people that call them 'breathless'. The characters are two-dimensional (no pun intended), in other words, they're just there, which makes the story not all that belivable and unengaging.

I'm sure the manga is a lot better than this anime adaptation, even though I haven't read it. I also do plan to watch the reworking of the series, 'HELLSING ULTIMATE'.

Hey! This was pretty Good! Some interesting characters. The cool vampire action is so right for Anime! Alucard has some handy vampire abilities, for sure! Crazy stuff!

The plot wasn't deep or anything. The Hellsing Organization hunts vampires, ghouls, and "freaks" (man-made monster types), and things just go from there. There were actually some plot holes but, oh well, I just kind of went along with it and enjoyed. The ending made me feel there has to be more coming.

The artwork was kind of choppy and made the characters stiff. I kept thinking "old school style". I haven't watched the OVA yet, but hope they use the new & improved quality artwork like other series have when they come out with sequels (like FMP, 2nd Raid).

I kind of liked the stylish 60's/70's rock music in the background. I found myself smiling when ever I'd hear it. It typically started up some kind of nutty action.

I'm finding myself favoring the shorter series (this was 13 episodes). Some others I've seen lately that were pretty good (Ergo Proxy; Gungrave) had too many filler/ boring episodes, but not much of that here. I only occasionally was hitting that fast-forward button on my remote with this one.

So, nothing to blow you away or anything like that here. Just some pretty decent Anime fun! 8 out of 10 Rating. 4 out of 5 STARS.

What a dissapointment! Another anime in the Gonzo tradition: Strong visuals coupled with poor writing. Although at the time of its release the original manga source was far from completion, you'd think that they could still have come up with something better.

First of all, Hellsing's TV series incarnation does deserve some credit. Its visuals are tremendously appealing. Even if the characters sometimes appear disproportionate or odd-looking, they do increase the atmosphere of mystery and horror that Hellsing is supossed to have. The animation is fluid and managed well, the fight scenes are interesting to look at and manage well enough to be exciting. Character designs are good-looking and fairly consistent in quality, with the single exception of the undead Incognito, who seems to have crawled out of Cartoon Network's Dexter's lab. That is not surprising, considering that the character is an exclusive design for the anime series and does not apear in the original manga source.

Another plus for this version of Hellsing is its music. This series has probably one of the best sountracks available. The songs not only complement the imagery perfectly, but they are also quite memorable themselves, especially the background music and the OP. The ED was not a bad song, but I feel it was a bit too upbeat for Hellsing and a more somber theme should have been chosen. Still, props to the music department here.

As a final note on the positives, the english dub for this series is probably one of the best I have ever heard, and was the proof that english dubs are not doomed to be bad by default. Aside from some weak acting on the part of Seras Victoria, the english dub of Hellsing is highly recommended for its high quality. The original Japanese voices are also pretty good, but that was to be expected.

Unfortunately that is about all I can say about Hellsing being good. In terms of Storyline the series falls flat on its face. It basically wraps itself more and more in mystery and the machinations of some secret agency mass-producing vampires, but the ending doesn't clear up anything. The high-and-mighty Alucard's mysterious agenda is never revealed completely, but the hints that the ending gives as to what it was are a total dissapointment. The pacing of the series is rather slow because there is little story to develop, and all the story developed by the end is unsatisfactorily crammed in the last couple of episodes, still leaving several loose ends.

Another of the weakest points in Hellsing are its characters. Alucard himself is not bad. Even if his mystery is a cloud of smoke, the character itself is appealing and draws the audience in. Integral Wingates Hellsing's commanding presence also deserves some credit here. Walter is kind of an overlooked character, although that can be excused as a 12 episode series cannot possibly develop every single one of its characters. I'd let Walter off with a "good enough".

However, two of Hellsing's other main characters are complete let-downs. First, Seras Victoria shows absolutely no growth throughout the series. She begins as a young woman very scared of the vampire she has become and ends as a young woman moderately scared of the vampire she has become. Big deal! I guess that at the end she gains some resolve to "fight the good fight", but given the circumstances that is hardly surprising. Her final battle is with a grunt of the type Alucard and regular Hellsing soldiers have been disposing of, so the outcome is not only uninteresting but also predictable. Even worse, be it at the beginning or the end, Seras' presence is completely irrelevant to the plot's development. As a main character she is completely expendable, something that main characters should never be. Seras Victoria in the TV series is my personal worst anime character ever.

Another flawed character is Aucard's nemesis, Alexander Anderson. Aside from two inconclusive apearances in the series, Alucard's antithesis doesn't do anything. His actions do not have any effect on the storyline and he serves as a mere excuse for Alucard to fight some strong guy twice, but that's about it. He also gets little development, camera time and plot relevance. For being the main character's polar oposite, Anderson is a complete failure, and his apearances are little more than pointless fillers that remind me of the evil guy on a children's show as he runs away screaming "You'll hear of me again, good guy!" Bad stuff.

The rundown: If you are looking for good animation and action scenes with a touch of Horror, Hellsing is definitely the way to go. However, if you dig deeper than that into character personalities and the underlying storyline, you're not going to find anything of substance. If you're looking for a good animated Hellsing with a worthwhile story, you'd better check out the OVA instead.

A decent anime on the whole. It's isn't as great for me enough to give it a star rating close to 5, but I'd say, it's one of those anime series which will keep you entertained when you're bored, and it is a good watch.

The animation was well done, and the storyline was a bit random, but decent. Some people seem to say it is all weird, which I guess in a way, it may seem so, but the originality with the concept of a vampire displayed in the anime is what I liked most about it. You obviously see your portion of classic use of the concepts of silver and sunlight against vampires, but this anime introduces the true notion of immortality of vampires.

This anime, has alot of blood, fighting & guns, hardcore enemies, but an evenmore whacked out and mysterious main character - Arucard.

This is my favorite vampire anime, just because I hate the rest of vampire anime. Idon't hate this vampire anime so it's my favorite!

I've seen a lot of action scenes, but hellsing has the strangest, and by strangest, I mean hard to watch I'll sum it up for you. Vampires are doing bad things, Arucard comes out of knowhere, ridiculing the vampires, vampires shoot Arucard dead- so they think, Arucard demonstrates his vampire abilities by regenerating and then rising in slow motion (does anyone think Naruto?), vampire is totally freaked out and repeats the dreaded line over used by any supernatural anime "what the heck are you?" Arucard laughs manically and shoots the vampire. That's the cycle that flows through all the episodes. It's so dumb how it tries to rope you into thinking this, oh my gosh! he stood up! what's he going to do next? No offense Naruto.

Character wise, it was done in a great job. We learned everything we should about the interesting characters except for that brief, psychiotic eruption Seras had when fighting those vampires one time. I'm sure that will be explained in the next season.

Plot wise, very average, infact so average, it's below average. At many times, I found the plot to be an excuse just to lead to the next fight. Their mission of finding out who was turning humans into synthetic vampires with technology was a hoax. Hellsing never explained, never showed, and never cared about the plot which had some interesting things to offer.

Altogether, this is a great anime for those who are into the whole "testosterone is thick enough to cut with a knife" or "let's take turns shooting each other and regenerating to demonstrate our manliness". I know there are people that are into this, but I'm not.

I got to say, I’ve never yet seen something quite like this. I’ve seen some dark anime, but this is the first that make a sick killer look good. Yeah, the famed Alucard, the famous Dracula spelled backwards, the vampire gunslinger that kills and laughs.

Plot
I never seen the manga or novel or whatever, but unlike it this do not have much of a plot. What I see is this: The conflict and the story is just the background. What the characters fight for, their characters and image is the plot itself, what the plot is all about. If you can see this like me, you can see this anime as one with a good plot.

Story
With all the blood involved, this anime is actually pretty sick. But what’s awesome is the coolness that develops from the sick killings, and the blood that brings the comeback of Alucard. I didn’t enjoy blood and gore in animes, but this will probably be the first.

Animation
The animation is pretty average. Compared to anime nowadays it can be considered bad, but we don’t need good animation to see all this goodness.

Music and Sounds
I do not know how they sound in the English dub, but the Japanese sounds pretty feral enough for me. I liked Ceras’s voice too.

Overall
I find this pretty enjoyable. Although you might not like this if you are looking for animes with a strong storyline, anyone should have seen the coolness of this one.

Ugh I hate underrated animes and I'm sad to say that Hellsing is one of them. This anime is hardcore! First of I usually prefer the japanese audio w/ the english subs on most animes, but in this case I'd have to recommend the english dub (YES IT'S BETTER IN ENGLISH) because the 2 main characters, Integra and Alucard sound so much cooler during the action episodes (like when the organization is invaded and Integra gives her "blood and honor" speech) the only bad dub that annoyed me a lot was probably the sidekick. That was probably the worst british accent I've EVER heard.

Characters don't really develop much throughout, but they don't really need to because Alucard is just crazy hardcore! He barely lifts a finger and owns his opponet. He's so imbalanced! like more IMBA than wing zero! now I would have liked the series to span for a few more episodes, but apparently a budget got in the way so taking that into consideration, the ending wasn't too shabby.

Dialogue: now I never really rate an anime based on what the character SAY but this anime is a BIG exception! I saw the english dub and thought it was FAR better than the japanese (besides the stupid british girl) and thought to myself, WOW even though this isn't all that action packed, and they talk excessively, the speech is so hardcore and well spoken that it doesn't bore me at all! most animes just talk to fill the time, but in this anime the talk IS the action! crazy brits!

Music: OMG!!!! THIS ANIME HAS SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC EVER! GO GET THE OST! EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE ANIME YOU MUST LOVE THE MUSIC! (We'll I'm a bit into that intro music so if you don't really like the intro then maybe you won't like the rest of the album).

Overall rating is a 9. This anime left a great impression on me.

I usually don't like blood and gore in anime, and to be sure Hellsing has plenty of both. But the story is so enrapturing I barely noticed. The artistry is beautiful and the animation flows well. The scenes and characters are believable and seem like they could be real to the average American girl like me who has no idea what real British people are like. I only saw the dubbed English version, I don't know if there's more than one, but the voice actors did a very good job keeping with the characters without those awful breaks in the speech.

The anime seemed a little short for me, however. Thankfully it answers most of the questions presented and like any good story, captures the viewer and holds them to the end.

Overall, one of the best drawn and most captivating animes I've seen in a long time and definitely the best vampire story.

Hellsing is the greatest vampire anime so far.

The characters are limited but what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. Arucard (pronounced Alucard) is the coolest vampire in the history of vampires. His purpose for serving his human master, Integra, is unknown. He probably just wants to fight worthy enemies. It's fun to watch Integra. She puts on a cool act most of the time but when she loses her temper, everyone backs into the corner. I've had a crush on police girl for the longest time. All personal opinions aside, what makes the characters truly unique is their motives for why they fight. Everyone is fighting for the same goal in their own way which is killing vampires and ghouls. Also, no one wastes time by talking in order to fill in the gaps.

The beggining theme song is dark and matches the story itself. I'm not sure what to think of the ending theme song. It sounds like the beggining theme song for Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

As grand as the battles are, no one really gives Arucard a good fight until Paladin Anderson steps in.

Story wise, everything makes sense except for the fact that vampires can walk around during daylight. There are no problems with the story but that doesn't make it perfect. Plot wise, Hellsing has nothing really going for it. All of the missions (missions isn't the right word but I can't think of anything else) of the story are slapped together and don't contribute to the story. Their purpose is for us to learn more about the characters.

The characters are intriguing, the plot is moot, the battle scenes are awesome, and the music is questionable. I give this anime a 7 out of 10 and two thumbs up as the audience.

This show did not really have much of a story to it , it was more action then a actual plot. The plot was basically pretty much takeing down the organization Hellsing.

The action to the show was amazing, Allucard looks so cool when he pops out his guns and stars shooting at the vampires as if they were nothing.

I forgot her name but the former female officer she was a very cool and strong female character to watch. In like episode 11 or 12 she was awsome she kicked ass.

The animation to the show was decent, sometimes the animation can get very crappy but overall it's good enough.

the music to the show is awsome, i love the ending theme to the show, the opening theme is not that appealing, but the backround music and songs are awsome!

The show has a nice amount of violence, and has some extreme swearing at a point, overall i would suggest this show to 15-16+ audience or if you are just mature enough to watch it.

Overall this show was very fun to watch, the ending to the show could have been better, but the action and music was very well done. Characters were very cool looking and awsome to watch in action. I am awaiting in watching the OVA cant wait till that.

Final score 8/10 just for the enjoyement i had in watching this show.

After watching this anime, I went to read the manga. And now reflecting back on watching this, I am kind of dissapointed at the attempt since some of the characters in my opinion were changed and the events were different. But regardless this is a great anime to watch if you like similar stuff.

Hellsing might have the most amazing begginning. Right from the begginning, I had thought to myself that this was going to be an amazing watch.

As I said earlier, the animation is simply brilliant. The colors are pleasing to the eye and add another dimension to the overall show. Animation is smooth. One complaint is that the a few (like 2) of the characters are kinda ugly, but the manga is to blame for that. The music though are forgettable easily. Nothing in my opinion is worth mentioning. But note this is just because, since Gravitation, my expectations have increased greatly.

The story of Hellsing is very well thought of but it might put-off some since it has connections with God and Church. Without giving much away, I can tell you that its about a vampire who's name is Alucard and he joined up with a former cop, and they together hunt down other vampires in England. Thats all I can say since any more would spoil it for you.

Overall watch it, especially of you like the Blade movies, and then read the manga. It might be slow at the beginning but stick with it and it will leave you with some rememberable moments.

Note: For Mature audiences - If blood, gore, horror, or satanic type images make you queezy stay away.

Very sad indeed, I heard that this anime ran out of money before it was finished and watching it, I can definitely believe it. A strong strong begining that got shot down and shattered at the end. Indeed so much potential lost. I hope the artists make a second, and I actually am looking forward to watching Hellsing Ultimate.

Art: 8/10. There were obvious weaknesses here in the art. Some of the characters were drawn with the typical 80s style anime. The fights are between fluid and flash. No real budget was spilled here.

Music: 7/10. At best average, nothing seriously moving. It didn't help much in any theme. OP and Ending unremarkable.

Story: 8/10. It suckered me in and it definitely sucked in many fans. Excellent strong start and would have compensated for any short comings. The ancient vampire vs the newer blood... wow like a story from White Wolf ... I felt like I was watching an anime of Vampire The Masquerade. But then, towards the end, an enemy appears that was not significant enough and was not hated enough and things got wrapped up very very quickly. As I always say, if you want to give me a serious antagonist you got to put some emotions in me towards them and the easiest one is hating the antagonist. Yet towards the end, it was put together so fast that you can't even form any feelings towards the enemy. How sad.

Character: 9/10. Excellent show of characters. Other than the lack of a serious antagonist and a good story, the regular characters were very impressively put together.

Overall, this had great potential and fell a great height. Still, it is one of the better vampire animes out there, for you wont find many good vampire animes. (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is about the only serious quality vampire anime out there that I care for.)

I would like to start off my review by saying that i absolutely loved this anime! The only thing stopping me from giving it a perfect 10 is that at some points the characters' movements weren't as fluid as they were moving around normally.(heres a more detailed review after this, but if you want the summary now: This is one kick-ass anime, especially for you action and horror buffs!)

Plot: I like how the anime focused more on Seras and her struggle with finding herself after becoming a vampire, it gave a slightly more serious feeling to the series. Contrary to what some others said before me, i wasn't bothered at all of how the plot of the anime strayed drastically from the manga. I liked how they never revealed who the orginazation was that were creating chip-vamps(vampires), it gave a hint of mystery.

Characters: I loved the characters, most of them at least ,Jon(pronounced Yon) really pissed me off more in the anime then he did in the manga, and i was slightly irritated at the Priest Anderson. But above all, my most favorite of all the characters was Alucard, i loved his attitude and how he fought, not to mention his guns the Casull, and the Jackal(which has the inscription "Jesus Christ is in heaven now" along the barrel). And for those of you that might not have noticed, Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards(gasp!), for emphasis to those who don't see it Alucard | draculA. I loved how that gave 3 major hints throughout the anime as to his true identity, one of them was him saying that his name was an anogram(a word/name that can spell out other words/names when jumbled around) and another major hin was in the last episode of how he disposes the "corpse" of Incognito. My other favorite would be Walter C. Dolnezz, the butler of the Hellsing family, who also happens to have the nickname of Shinigami Walter (Angel of Death Walter).

Animation: the animation was really good, especially during the fight scenes. My only problem was that, as mentioned earlier, when the characters were just walking, they seemed too stiff and not moved as fluidly as they did in battle.

Sound: The soundtrack was awsomely kick-ass to the 3rd power!! The voices were very good, i just couldn't tell if Itegra(l) was a guy or a girl at first due the voice. I also liked how they tried to put in as much enligh as possible(this is based in England, and i doubt that most Englishmen/women speak in Japanese)

Overall: I really loved this anime and how they had heavy references to the powers that vampires posses, most of which seem to come from Bram Stoker's Dracula. I also loved how they used a reference to the real life Dracula for the character of Alucard in how he finishes off Incognito. I highly recommend this for those of you are into Action anime, vamps, and other denizens of the darkness, and also to those who don't mind lots, and i mean lots of violence(even though it is slightly toned down when compared to the manga). Also to better explain the feel of the anime, think Angel(the WB series), but instead of some vamp trying to redeem himself, it has a battle hungry vamp who just loves to kill and really hates "cheap imitations"
