I’ve always enjoyed this franchise, ever since laying my eyes on the 6 episode OVA released in the mid 90’s. So after a long running manga and a number of prior TV shows, can I still count on Belldandy and company for entertainment?

Animation
One thing that has remained constant is the lovely looking animation. The character designs have always been beautifully drawn and the goddesses are as adorable as always. Overall, this was nicely animated and the best aspect of the show by far.

Story
I’ve got all the manga, so I already knew most of the story beforehand. Admittedly it still felt rather disjointed and convoluted in places, despite following the manga’s storyline rather closely. Comparatively speaking, I didn’t feel that there was as much depth to the story as in the first season. There were some episodes that were purely comedic filler and didn’t contribute to the overall storyline or plot. Perhaps this is the worst part of the show.

Characters
Not as much character development as in the first season. Keiichi is as always, such a do-gooder, it’s almost nauseating. It was refreshing to see a jealous and emotionally unstable Belldandy at times and more of this would definitely have made for a much more entertaining spectacle. Urd and Skuld are there almost as the feuding comic relief at times. The other peripheral characters all make the odd cameo, but have such small roles it’s almost considered a waste. Unlike the other incarnations of AMG, very little was on show here and I had the impression that the producers ‘assumed’ you already knew all there is to know about the Goddesses’ backgrounds and characters. With the exception of AMG fans, this probably would annoy most of the average anime viewers out there.

Music
As usual, the OP and ED themes were really pleasant on the ear. Yes, even the playing of the bagpipes was done decently! The score was fitting as well, with a fair amount of suitable touching and dramatic pieces. Nicely done overall.

Summary
Perhaps for the casual viewer, it’s understandably generic in story, with sub-par characterization. As someone who has been a long term AMG fan, I loved it. So deciding on a score that reflects fairly on these two problems is perhaps what will hurt me the most. I just honestly wish they could have spent more time making a more meaningful series with more involvement of the peripheral cast and perhaps more on the (almost stagnant at the rate it’s going) relationship between Keiichi and Belldandy. For an average fan, this is a dependable, but average 3.5 stars. As a fan, I expected more, but was content with what was on offer. So overall, I’ll award 4 stars.

Ah! My Goddess 2 is slightly better than the first season. It has more humor and more of Keichii’s efforts for more constructive... unlike a lot of nonsense humor in AMG 1.

Plot… Average
Well, it is certainly more interesting than the first season. The problem is, it still pretty much gets nowhere. It's still mainly about the problems in their relationship. Some parts are worth watching, but many are still boring. Sometimes, I won't say where, the story’s just... weird. It didn't make sense, or should I say it's too senseless. The series does have ideas on interesting relationship developments, but the story is made nicely to progress to that selling point.

Story... well, okay, I guess...
Why is it always Belldandy saving Keichii’s ass all the time with her powers again? It does gets old after the first season. There are many efforts seemed made to create romantic scenes, but I guess it didn’t work. For ones that worked, they’re cute, but it doesn’t feel real. I was going "oh, wow." And that’s it.

For the ending that spanned over the last few episodes, I got failed to make an impact. It was, well, a little confusing in some areas, and I failed to see how they manage to make the plot as strange as this. But then, maybe it was my fault, because for the last few episodes I’m only watching the colors swirl on the screen without really absorbing the story. BUT then, it wasn’t my fault this happened either.

...and the sempais are pure annoyance.

Animation Average
The animation is crisp and much "fuller", but there’s still not much small details done. The character movements seemed as awkward as ever. I’ll add points for some nicer special effects though.

Music and sounds Average
The endings are nice. The opening would be nice if not for the irritating instrumental "screeching".

The god-like booming effects gets old, but I guess that can't be helped. I got bored of all their voices already. (maybe except Skuld)

Overall Sleep inducing
It’s wasn’t bad, actually. But it's wasn’t anything good either. Seems like a story that anyone could have written. If you’re looking for some typical humor you’ll probably enjoy it. (I hope)

The AMG bias strikes again! As excited as I was learning that there was a second season coming, it became more and more of a chore to finish the series during its progression. By the end, however, I couldn't help but give a decent rating for one of my favorite characters in all of anime. Belldandy is just so cute.

The story found in Ah! My Goddess: Sorezore no Tsubasa is not all that bad actually. It continues where the first season leaves off. There isn't much in terms of actually furthering the relationship between Keiichi and his goddess of a girlfriend so some will get frustrated with the "lack of progress". Instead, there's more of an attempt to flesh out the characters introduced before as well as bringing out a bevy of new ones. Peorth and Hild finally make their long awaited debuts, although I am a little surprised at the way they brought in Hild. My hopes for Peorth were somewhat dashed because she didn't appear as much as I had wished. In retrospect, the story and character progression are not prone to too much complaint.

I guess that leads me to the technical department and that's where this anime falters. The music was fine. The OP, Shiawase ni Iro, and the two ED's are all fantastic and the background music is relatively unchanged. I have no complaints there. It's the animation. The fluctuation in animation quality varies from episode to episode, sometimes from scene to scene. It was either awesome and beautiful or downright awful. Rule number one when making an anime about goddesses: they need to look virtually flawless. Time and time again, Belldandy and company were animated so poorly, it began distracting from the story and took a toll on the overall enjoyment of the anime itself. A true shame indeed. Belldandy deserves a larager animation budget than what was given.

So here we are at the end of another season of Ah! My Goddess. It's not going to change your impression any more than the first season did. Some will find that this series is in serious need of a visual overhaul (look to last season's DVD episodes to know the potential of how great this anime can look). Keiichi needs his haircut badly. Finally, why show Keiichi's parents in the ending credits if they won't even appear in the episodes (save for that ten second cameo)? You know and I know there's going to be a third season. Time to play the waiting game...
