School Rumble: Season 2 maintained the drollness of the first season at first, then just dropped it somewhere in the middle of the series.
I have to make a note, though - Lia, the singer of "Tori no Uta" from AIR, sang two insert songs for this series! Bravo. Other than that, however, I didn't find any of the songs too appealing.
I felt that this series focused much more on Harima than the other characters. We see him featured in almost every episode - but does he ever get anything accomplished? No, not really. It's more of the same, same, same from School Rumble - and we wish that something would finally happen between the love triangle. Or at least provide a bit more character development. The characters are way too shallow, but since they focused on Harima the most, viewers are at least provided some insight into his mind - which is almost predictable already. Let me sum it up for you: "Tenma-chan! You are so cute!... Now is my chance to confess! That's what you want, right?... OH NO I FAILED AGAIN!" I was glad that they featured Harima, but mos of the other characters were just dropped, especially Hanai, who just unbelievably managed to survive on a kite without eating or drinking for days. Before that, he just suddenly disappeared for most of the season - disappointing, as this removed some of the Yakumo comedy from the series. I do wish, though, that they would use something different with the characters - the creator must have more creative juices than he's dishing out. Most of the scenes don't have much originality anymore - and neither Harima nor Tenma will ever get their prize.
I especially can't get over the "My Mai Dream!" episode that randomly appeared towards the end of the series. That just completely destroyed my perception of School Rumble for a little bit - it's comparable to the random magical girl episode in H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~ - where the creators decided to put in a "cute" episode but instead ruined the series with it. It wasn't one bit funny or cute - rather, it was somewhat appalling. Actually, there were many things I found somewhat disappointing in this second season - the relationship development, the repetition of jokes. If you want a well-executed "romance comedy," then look up Lovely Complex. This is just a "comedy."
Everything stays the same by the end. There's no development, nothing. Part of my score is based on bias and because of the laughs I did get out of the series - which were quite a few.

School Rumble was a fun, enjoyable show, that made me laugh, every single episode. After watching it, I looked forward to the second term (season) with great anticipation. However after watching the entirety of the second season, I have to admit, that it didn't have quite the same charm the original had. Oh, the magic was still there. The humor, the relationships, the characters. But there were quite a few episodes that just felt completely like fillers. Unnecessary and unneeded. There were a lot of scenes that simply weren't enjoyable or fun. To put it simply, the second season was a let down after the first. Definitely disappointing. However apart from the fillers, and some things that just weren't necessary, I really enjoyed the series. Particularly the ending.
The animation was about the same as the first season. Actually a bit better, as it seemed like they managed to maintain the level throughout the entire season, rather then being inconsistent like the first term was. The music, particularly the OP was annoying at first. However over time, and through repetition, I actually started to enjoy it.
My biggest gripe with the first series is carried over in the second. There were once again too many characters, so many that it was hard to keep track of who was who. In fact the second term exacerbated the problem, by adding quite a few more people. Still, as I said, its worth watching, and the issue of confusing characters while problematic doesn't interfere with the story.
Overall, I do recommend this season if you enjoyed the first. All the characters are back, and continuing their stories. And as I mentioned before, the magic continues unabated from the first. In fact in some cases improving on the first. I'm definitely looking forward to Season 3, and hoping for a Harima x Yakumo ending.

And the School Rumble cast returns in Semester 2! This time however, season 2 failed to maintain its standard throughout the series. Yes, the first half of the series is still as good (if not funnier), but the second half was… quite a letdown.
Story/Characters:
SR2 focuses more on the other classmates (that were initially playing little roles in S1) , which is a good thing. It really is very fun watching the different aspects of the class and to see characters other than the usual main ones. The focus on more characters as well as expansion in the exaggerated antics and gags made some of the scenes way funnier than in season 1.The opening scene to episode 1 of S2 was itself already a killer.
Now, as initially mentioned, the second half of the series was unsatisfying. Why? Firstly, they seem to have run out of the gags for the TenmaXHarima misunderstanding, resulting in the scenarios to be going in circles, recycling the same old stuffs, making the story very boring and repetitive. Also, they decided to have the situation made as being more romance based, more emotional and more complex (e.g. dragging Eri and Yakumo into the scene).
Bad move. Very bad move. They forgot that SR is after all a comedy, yet had the relationships/love issue progressed to a more serious manner. What’s worse is that the romance concepts aren’t really original or really touching or emotional to begin with. After all, it was the comedy aspect that made this series popular rather than the nature of the romance, to begin with.
Animation/Graphics:
The animation and graphics are still the same, so there is no need to repeat my review (since it'll be the same for S1).
Animation/GraphicsMusic:
The background music used are still the same ones as well. (which is also a good thing.) But now they’ve got a new OP! I like the new OP too, which is also very energetic, complimenting the mood for the series.
Summary:
Yes, overall I’m quite disappointed with the series, due to the heavy focus on romance rather than the comedy during the latter part of series. Nevertheless, I still give this an 8 as my personal overall rating is 75%, but giving a 7 is too low, since the comedy for the first half is still top-notch SR caliber and style humor that still make me laugh.

Without a doubt, the first season of School Rumble is one of the best school-life comedies in all of anime. The same cannot be said about this season. The main problem it has is sort of ironic. Once the first season was done, I expected to find more of the same in the second. I did, but I think I found too much of the same.
The Second Semester obviously continues with the hilarious love stories from the first, and as such, you're going to run into all those familiar characters and situations. At first it is impossible not to appreciate it but, around the middle of the series, you come to realize that School Rumble has run out of steam for two reasons:
First, the development of the characters and the "story" just stall. Everything starts going in circles; the characters stop growing or encountering new circumstances. We're constantly treated to the same sets of misunderstandings and the same sets of predictable reactions and resolutions. Kenji remains always focused on Tenma, who is in turn focused on the cardboard cutout known as Karasuma (one of the crappiest anime "characters" ever). Alas, they all remain oblivious to each other's attention. The secondary focus of the show switches alternatively between Eri and Yakumo, although I got the feel that Eri was more o less dropped later on. The other members of the cast still get their chances to shine in some episodes... but in no way differently from ways that were already shown in the first season. The only real chance of character development for the leads comes in the last episode or two, but that too is conveniently erased at the very end. The only one with a minor measure of change was Yakumo. And only minor. In terms of character development, this season will leave you no better than the first. In fact, you'll definitely feel it is lacking.
Unfortunately, the same applies to the humor. The author's creative juices also seem to have run out in this aspect; what we get in the last half of the show are the same re-used jokes over and over again. You can only see Lala beat the stuffing out of Imadori so many times before it stops being funny. The part with Hanai in the kite and the boat trip are not only unfunny, but extremely forced even for a nonsensical show as this one. Like with the characters, this season offers little to nothing new when it comes to humor.
What does that leave School Rumble with? Sadly, with nothing. What else is good about it? it retains the visual style of the first season, which isn't really a reason to watch this show, though it offers a good complement to it. The music retains its cute/funny tone, always appropriate and memorable... but it is still the same as before. Without the characters and humor, the style simply cannot compensate you for it all.
The Second Semester was enjoyable in its first half. In terms of content it is always more of the same, but that only goes so far and is only fun until you realize that the development that made the first so good is gone... from there on it is just repetitive, to the point in which it gets boring. With no progress in almost every single aspect, I think you'd easily be able to make sense of a third (if ever) season by watching only the first and skipping this one. The second is only memorable in its mediocrity. While the first few chapters will bring back welcome memories of the first season, by the end it is quite possible that you'll wish not having wasted your time with something that never goes anywhere.

If you loved the first season of school rumble then the second will be somewhat disappointing.
The animation is the same as the first season, it's toon-like to suit the anime. They still use the same effects, the animation changes during comedic moments, so nothing different in this area what so ever.
The story is the same but with only a few more complications, its something you can take seriously at first but somewhere down the line it loses focus. It gets silly. They stop focusing on the story and the show sort of turns into something like Lucky Star. This may not sound like a bad thing but I expected more romance and development from this season seeing as the first season didn't have much either.
The music is the same. The same type of music is used to capture the emotions such as the funny moments, the sad moments and other moments. Again it's the same as the first season, apart from the OP and ED which was pretty much expected, no disappointment really the music is still very well done.
The characters are exactly the same, there still funny as hell, Imadori and Harima are still favorites, they focus on side characters more which is a big downer in my opinion, because well.... there called side characters for a reason.
School Rumble second term was a disappointment to me due to the fact that, in the first season there wasn't much seriousness to it and neither was there much focus on romance. You'd expect those things to be changed in season two, however this is not the case in fact they've stopped focusing on the romance even more, which just makes it pointless to watch. School Rumble season 1 rocked season 2 did not.

If you loved School Rumble, then you won't be disappointed with the 2nd term. It's much more of the same laughs and giggles and ridiculous situations just like the first one. You'll see much more of the characters you loved and much more of what happens between them which always results in absolute hilariousness. You'll also see some more character development for those who are picky about it but I wouldn't say that they got too serious about it. But what I love about comedies is the atmosphere of not being serious at all which School Rumble never fails at doing. It gives a very positive feeling which left me satisfied after finishing it. But if there is a 3rd season then I will look forward to that even when satisfied with the first two. That is how much I enjoyed this series overall

If you liked the first season, then you will like the second as well. Thats pretty much it. Term two serves us the same of the first season and continues on with some of the romantic comedies we saw in the first.
Music was good, the characters keep developing and have the same hilarious personalities. The gags are just as outrageous and parody many things from anime and popular culture.
I gave it one less star maybe because the hilarious impact the first season wasn't there. Maybe I went from expecting nothing from the first season to expecting great things from the second season.
If you love silly romantic comedies or school rumble 1st season then this is a must watch for you. This is definitely on my buy list. Way above average, good anime at 8/10.

Here's what's funny about the second semester of School Rumble: It's not as good as the first. Why does it have higher reviews than the first season? I'm guessing the people who liked the first season actually watched the second season, while those who didn't like the first season didn't bother with it. Thus, the reviews you see are primarily from School Rumble fans. That should probably be in the back of your mind as you read these reviews. That being said, it's a pretty good way to decide whether to watch this season or not: Watch it if you liked the first. Essentially, all of the elements of the first season are there: the zany characters, the comedic timing, the miscommunication, and the parodies. All of the same elements that made the first season great are present in the second season. Comparing the two is difficult. I believe that the first half of this season is absolutely better than the first season. The survival game and the play story lines are simply spectacular. Whether it's Harima's attitude, the butler's cross dressing, the random kiss between Akira and Harima, or the way Akira says "survival game" with a monotone voice and two guns, the story delivers and the characters are at their best. In particular, I'm totally enamored with the way Harima acts in the survival game, he turns into a killing machine and plays it off beautifully. The way he takes out Mikoto in front of Hanai and the way he claims not to need Hanai's forgiveness are some of the best scenes. Hanai's not so bad himself, especially in the flashback with Yuki. The play is simply hilarious in both premise and execution. The gender reversals, Tenma's idiocy, the final fight, and the resolution add up to a highly entertaining couple of episodes. Unfortunately, from this part on the season loses focus a bit.
The basketball storyline was decent, although I believe that some of the parodying was of a show so old that virtually nobody will understand it. Other poor parts of the show include the 1 hour special that is undoubtedly the worst 2 episodes of school rumble ever. The episodes are disjointed, too over the top, and simply bizarre. Another complaint is that the storyline as a whole doesn't make much sense near the end, they try to bring the focus back to Tenma and Harima too quickly and the transition is hardly seamless. While the scene in the final episode that is so dramatic succeeds at being overly dramatic, it doesn't rescue the end of the show. If anything saves the show, it's Sawachika for me. Eri evolves in a way none of the other characters really do in the way she interacts with Harima, and this makes for a couple of highly entertaining episodes. Yakumo probably has the same effect for those who are fans of her, as she essentially admits to her feelings and grows up quite a bit. It's hardly surprising that the characters save this show, as they've always been the strongest part of the show.
Onto the logistics, the show is pretty average in most categories. The music is catchy and optimistic as usual, although it's a step down from season one in my opinion. The intro song fits the show quite well, but the ending song is a little too slow and drawn out for an up-tempo show. The OST track is essentially the same as first season, and does a good job complimenting the action. Some of the sadder episodes were in particular quite believable because of the accompanying music. Speaking of sad, everybody always imagines School Rumble as a comedy for good reason, but I love when this show tries to be serious because I think it does a very good job of doing that. The sadder episodes are some of my favorites because they tend to show the other side of love and yet do it without dwelling on the pessimism. The voice acting is superb, and I think all of the voices are quite memorable. In particular, I remember the scene where Harima has to use a high voice to pretend to be like Mikoto and the voice actor unleashes his Kikumaru Eiji voice from Prince of Tennis. For those who are fans of that show, it's an absolute treat to hear Eiji's voice coming out of Harima's mouth. Certain other moments like that make the voice acting stand out quite a bit. Animation is pretty standard and hardly flashy, although it suits the comic nature of the show and accentuates the goofy nature of most of the themes. The themes of School Rumble are straightforward, mostly that love is a crapshoot and that it's funny when it's not happening to you. Ultimately, SR takes the three ideas of miscommunication, poor timing, and rush to judgment and plays them continuously. However, it's still funny even to the end of the show, so it doesn't end up feeling repetitive. Instead, it feels brilliant because you know one of those three things will happen and yet you love it when the punch line hits. Anybody will remember Harima saying "I hate blonds with pigtails" in the pool or Harima claiming "I like a girl with pigtails" to Eri when Yakumo walks in with a new haircut. Scenes like those make the anime fun and entertaining. Ultimately, School Rumble is not some dramatic love show, but it is a highly entertaining anime about how funny love can be.

After I've watched School Rumble, I immediately went for the Second Semester and I have to say it has never failed me.
You have the same lovable characters such as Tenma Tsukamoto, her little sister, Yakumo Tsukamoto, the deliquent Harima Kenji, princess Eri Sawachika, big-breasted Mikoto Suo, superhuman girl Karen Ichijo and her rival, the Mexican superman girl Lala Gonzalez, and many others that will definitely make you smile and laugh.
The plot is the same; winning the love of your life. However, the comedical exaggeration of those attempts are original and never fails to be one of the most hilarious animes I've ever seen.
The only reason I didn't give a ten was that in the middle of the anime, it was a bit confusing because it completely ignored the plot from the previous episodes. Still, it was hilarious and then we also get to go more in depth with Eri Sawachika and her love-hate relationship with Harima Kenji! (Dun, dun, dun)
Overall, the sequel did not fail us like other animes or movies. It may have been the same plot and same characters with a few new characters, but their originality of their exaggerated attempts to get the attention of their crush is absolutely hilarious. School Rumble Ni Gakki (Second Semester) is yet another perfect comedy for all the previous fans and comedy seekers. It seems I can't get enough and also can't wait for more continuations of School Rumble.
This slice of life comedy has been recommended by JaMaJuice.

As a massive fan of the first season, I was expecting so much from the second. As expected, I wasn't. School Rumble Ni Gakki was full of side-splitting laughs and gags, along with typical Harima and Tenma situations.
Storyline:
School Rumble Ni Gakki continues the journey of seriously complicated love triangles. Harima likes Tenma, Tenma likes Karasuma and Karasuma likes... curry?! LOL!!! you meet about ten to twenty amazing characters, the majority are from the first series but the new ones are fantastic!! i was expecting them to be like 'add-ons' but they were really good!!! As usual, the cast of School Rumble get into some really random and awkward situations, such as Hanai being stuck on that kite. That's the thing that prevented me from giving the series a perfect score. Like, random is hillarious but it got... too random? it kind of became repetitive after awhile but still extremely enjoyable to watch.
Characters:
You'll absolutely fall in love with them all. personally I love Mikoto and Asou, they're gorgeous. You'll quickly notice the diversity of the bunch. An absolutely amazing set of characters.
Music:
super fun and catchy as always.
Animation:
Can't go wrong here. It's exactly like the first season: crisp and clear with bright colours that will capture your attention.
Overall:
Fantastic, as can be expected from season two of School Rumble! It would be highly recommended that you watch season one first, just to get a good understanding of the personalities of the characters.
This series is a must watch for anyone who enjoys following the lives of ditzy teenagers and their hillarious love lives!!

It still gives me the laughs. It still gives me confusion. It still makes me want to watch more. I recommend watching this even though some episodes are not that important of what is going to happen next. I don't quite mind that since what i look is how good they put effort and how good it impresses me. I want to look and look at it and look at it. I want to get what is happening to Harima, Sawachika, Yakuma, and Tenma. Since they are my favorite characters. Even if the 1st Sem is a little bit better in terms of how the episodes are wasted.. it's still fine with me. ^-^

After watching the first season of School Rumble, I knew exactly what to expect from School Rumble Ni Gakki, the 2nd season. There had to be lots of laughs, more character development, love relationships totally hitting or missing, a strong but light hearted story, and many more memorable scenes focusing on the batch of main characters from season 1. School Rumble Ni Gakki delivered the "Goods" almost perfectly, but came up just short of being just as great as the first School Rumble.
Story - Ok, I know the first School Rumble has a huge advantage when it comes to storyline because the anime gets to introduce all the main characters for the first time, thus having the opportunity to portray each and every unique personality. Ni Gakki of course expects you to know everything that happened in season 1 involving all the characters, and still does introduce focus on some new or side characters, but mainly is a continuation of the chaotic love-comedy storyline of the original. Harima Kenji still loves Tsukamoto Tenma but never finds the courage to confess his love, Tenma still loves the weird Karasuma, Mikoto actually gets over her old senpai and dates a classmate, Eri finds herself in more odd situations with Harima thus appreciating everything he does for her even more, and Yakumo continually gets closer to Harima through reading his manga to the point where a strong relationship seems to be forming. Great stuff again.
Anime - Great animation for the all the characters, same as season 1 you know?
Music - The op ed sequences again fit in perfectly with the tone of the anime. The opening was another uptempo song, and the first ending was actually more of a slow song that I liked over all the other songs in School Rumble. Again music during the anime meshed well with the atmosphere, environment. Same as season 1 you know?
School Rumble Ni Gakki is really a great anime, and when compared to season 1 it comes up just a little bit short of the original's greatness, understandably though. Season 2 is still one heck of an anime with big comedical laughs alongside a good and still developing storyline. The small knocks that I have against season 2 is that there were a few episodes that really went nowhere like fillers. They focused on a fake or manga like storyline involving the side characters of School Rumble. Ni Gakki, when compared to the original, gave more focus and spotlight to storylines involving the new or side characters. Yeah I know it's usually good to take some focus off the main characters for a bit and introduce some of the newer or smaller side characters, but I really would of wanted season 2 to focus even more on the relationships and storylines dealing with the main characters.
Harima's undying love for Tenma and his will to never let go, even though he knew that she also has an undying love for Karasuma, kind of got on my nerves. Karasuma for some reason also got on my nerves everytime he had the spotlight with Tsukamoto Tenma, probably because I never really liked Karasuma as a character and that he just hinders the main protagonists chances of ever getting together or moving forward in different relationships. Sawachika Eri still seems to have something for Harima even if she really doesn't show or say it, and Tsukamoto Yakumo has also seemed to develop a special bond with our male lead delinquent. I really would've liked Harima Kenji to finally realize that he and Tenma getting together is nearly improbable because of Tenma's love for Karasuma, and that there are other great girls out there waiting, wanting a chance with Harima Kenji. Go for Eri or Yakumo you idiot, either one is fine. But overall School Rumble Ni Gakki has too many good things going on compared to the slight annoyances, but maybe the developing storyline that still needs more development leads into season 3 sometime in 2007, can't wait to see that.
School Rumble Ni Gakki Rating: 9.0-9.5 out of 10 - A Must Watch

This one is hard to review. Mainly because I loved the first season. So what went wrong when they did the 2nd semester ? The answer is... nothing.
You have the exact same receipt. Good characters, some action and plain dumb fun. All this surrounded by a funny sort of story. We get more of the same.
The main drawback are some totally unrelated episode. Many show had fillers before... Just... not that kind of filler. Some episode were wasted on... not side story, but entire parody of other anime featuring the School Rumble cast. While this can be funny once or twice in a season... This trick was used way too many times.
Overall, the story was satisfying and the times when it focused on the story were great. The third season should be as interresting, just wish they will drop entire episode of parody.

Many a School Rumble fans were overjoyed at the news of a second season starring the students at Yagami High. Perhaps it's because of the lovable cast and our tendencies to cling to the familiar. Perhaps it's because of that open ended closing episode that the first season decided to throw at us and we demanded more closure. Whatever the reason, School Rumble came back in the spring in the form of School Rumble: Ni Gakki and, for better or for worse, is pretty much what most would come to expect from this lighthearted school comedy.
Everyone's back for the second year hijinks. The true advantage of sequels are the already established characters and story. Ni Gakki jumps straight into where the first season left off. Harima still has a crush on Tenma. Tenma still has a crush on Karasuma. Karasuma is still oblivious to everything (seemingly). Throw in a princess, a tomboy, a spy, a sister, an overachiever, some wrestlers, a group of foreigners, some perverts, along with a bevy of brand new characters and you have yourself 26 episodes miscommunication (the bread and butter of School Rumble's humor). It's all enjoyable the first or second time around. However, in the end, I kind of wish they would bring some closure to some of the more intriguing relationships that Ni Gakki brought to the fore. Alas, you get ANOTHER open ended closing episode.
Long time SR addicts and lighthearted comedy fans will no doubt enjoy this second incarnation. I surely enjoyed my time spent with the students at Yagami High. Plus, that new OP, while nothing compared to Scramble, is fun to listen to in its own right. Now, if only Harima can get over his obsession with Tenma and see what's in front of him (I'll let you Eri and Yakumo fans battle it out...). Word has it that the manga is close to ending. Perhaps another set of OVA's can round out the remaining chapters and bring closure to this somewhat frustrating story. Here's to dreaming.

It's an awesome anime, and especially got better during the later eps. The first season was funnier I believe, but season 2 had some AWESOME scenes. This anime is really good, and I recommend both seasons to everyone!
It's funny, AND has a story. Most funny stuff is funny but doesn't make much sense, but School Rumble is unique.
Story: Acutally has one, and its a pretty good one too.
Animation: Solid animation, lots of unique faces now and then too
Character: 10/10, each character has unique personalities, and some are weird and so mysterious.
Definitely recommend this anime, as well as season 1
