After watching over a hundred episodes, finally I can give a review for this one.
Story: 9/10
Who cares about a serious storyline if every episode is so enjoyable! This is an episodic anime and every episode has a good theme to it. Sometimes they do Arcs that is related to their main plot, and it is always very good. There is no anime that can give you a good laugh and at the same time touched by its drama. This is also a great time to review your knowledge about animes because they have anime parodies in almost all of their episodes.
Animation: 8/10
Their animation is just an average for an anime. Sometimes, they produce a really great animation that can level Naruto or Bleach, but that is only in the major arcs. But I think it is also good for this kind of anime because this is not a serious anime, and the creators are also honest in it. Hahaha
Characters: 10/10
All the characters in this anime are hilarious. One of the greatest cast of characters ever assembled in a comedy anime. They are like comedians on TV that you will wait every week. Sadaharu is the best, he is so cute!
Music: 8/10
All the opening and closing themes are very good. You will wait for the next opening song if the AMV will be different compare to all of their openings: 2 guys in a motorcycle and a girl riding a big dog staring at the sunset.
Overall: 8/10
This is a very good anime to watch if you are getting bored. A great laugh every week is not bad, and that what makes this anime still running after three years. Their jokes are more matured and lots of lessons in life can be learned. I love it, and you will definitely love it too.

I'm not gonna write a huge review critiquing every little thing about this anime....to be honest, I don't really care about things like graphics as much, although having them is better, no doubt. I will say that Gintama is a very original anime with an excellent storyline and is very nicely developed and has, in my opinion, funny ass characters. The whole anime is based on comedy, which I like a lot, but at the same time, there are action and fights, which is not bad at all. Although it's not as intense as Bleach/Naruto style fighting, it's still a good combination with the constant comedy. I've never seen comedy like this before, meaning it is highly original....most of the time you cant guess what will happen next. Plus the music is awesome....which is always a plus point. You MUST watch it.

Music (10/10): The music is absolutely awesome for this anime. So far, the opening and ending songs have all been my favorites (some more than others) and the soundtrack is unique in its own way, befitting this paradoxical anime and the scenes where they are played.
Characters (10/10): The characters are very original. From the main character, Gintoki, to the rest of the cast, their personalities shine through wonderfully. The anime makes great use of having characters parody stereotypical character types found in animes by having the characters refer to themselves as such, for example, megane-character (glasses character). This is a source of great humor.
Plot (10/10): The plot is also very unique. Originally, I was turned off by the mix of Edo with Alien but truthfully, this makes the anime even more wonderful. The parodies of other animes, like One Piece and Bleach, and the story's own unique storyline makes for a very interesting anime that'll have you holding your belly while you crack up nearly every episode with the occasional sad episodes that'll have you reaching for a tissue box (or a sleeve). The fact that it does proceed chronologically also makes the story flow nicely.
Graphics (10/10): The graphics are also lovely. In fact, it seems more realistic in the sense that the anime has good-looking and ugly characters. This way, they all grow on you in their own way. The locations aren't exactly pretty but seem realistic for the weird era the characters are living in. But seriously, this anime is so funny that you'll enjoy it even when there is no graphics, literally.
Having seen all episodes out so far (90+ episodes), I can say that this anime is awesome in all ways, at least in my opinion. The breaking of the fourth wall, basically having the characters interact with us, the audience, creates a lot of humor. The plots that sprout from problems occasionally last across a couple episodes which leaves you wanting more. The hanging question of Gintoki's past always keeps you waiting for the next episode as well. The pointless issues that the characters try to solve, add much of the humor to the anime as well, making those episodes very interesting, for instance, when they're trying to decide on a name for the new season of Gintama.
I definitely recommend this anime to all people out there. It's very enjoyable on a hard day when you just need to laugh.

Gintama rocks first of all, and second where can I get an unbreakable almighty wooden sword?
Basically Gintama revolves around these three people Gintoki, Shinpachi and Kagura and their attempts and failures at getting money to pay for their rent in any possible way, thus their business as "Freelancers". Hilarious from start the start till the end Gintama is an enjoyable series (so far cause the series is still continuing) with stuff for the action people (hell yeah), comedic people, and those who just want to watch a really good anime. Since there is no base storyline, every episode is brand new material so you don't need to stay on track with the show. This is a series which will have you laughing all throughout although there are quite a bit of Japanese references just like "Yakitate Japan" (I hate the anime but love the manga) but there is enough scenes to keep you entertained.
Set in a world with flying spaceships, weird aliens, samurai, ninjas, Bleach (yes Bleach) and every other odd thing, Gintama is a series that you will enjoy, especially the 1st opening song and the 2nd ending song

I'm writing this review having both read and watched the series, and I must say that I wasn't quite fond of the art style at first, but after the first several episodes, I must say that the series totally hooked me up...
Plot 9/10: Mixing Feudal Japan with a modern, hi-tech Alien settlement was an ingenious idea. This type of mix-match plot line is also used in many other animations (i.e. Hamlin the Violinist, Shrek). And I'd say it works like a charm every time. The story was just a string of hilarious (and sometimes humiliating) complications dealing with the main character and his company. However, deep inside, it seems like a more mature and deep story line is slowly and gradually emerging. As the story hasn't progressed much, the primary plot is yet to be speculated...SO far, thumbs up!
Character 8/10: It seems like more and more characters are being introduced as the story progresses, and we haven't had the chance of seeing all of them develop. However, as for the main clutch of characters, it seems like each and every one of them has their own unique (bizarre to an extent) personality and depth. Some definitely have more than others and few haven't gotten their chance to tell the story yet. But overall it gives the audience a wide variety of colorful characteristics.
Animation 9/10: The art quality and perfection has improved greatly from the manga version. Good use of color tones and 3-D effects also helps conveys the attitude of the story. And the hilarious drawing style most definitely had me ROFL pretty much all the time, I haven't had this much laugh since the days with Ranma 1/2. All the character was well drawn; the style of the author also helps enhance the comedic factors of the series.
Music 10/10: I don't know anything about how effectively music enhances the mood of the story, but I could never hold in my laughter every time the theme songs of certain characters kicks in, most of them are silly, stupid, and certainly funny and I think that's enough to help the audiences enjoy the time. The OP/ED songs were also fantastic.
The fact that each episode is a different story (some times maybe two) filled with parodies from movies, TV shows, etc. makes the series most enjoyable since you don't have to exactly follow through a strict order to not miss out anything important. The plot deals with all sort of things (even the ones you wouldn't want to deal with) keeps the story fresh through out. The mischievous, paradoxical, characters always deliver it good. Whether you just need something to kill your time with, or trying to find the meaning of your life, or you simply enjoyed the Shrek series, then you MUST not miss Gintama.
