Once upon a time, there was a great war. The only remnants left of this war were: a huge desert, and only about 1/5th of the original population.
A mysterious council, "The Third", appeared shortly after. They oversee the world; perhaps one could say they rule it. They see all, and they can control - with their "red eyes".
Honoka is a "jack-of-all-trades"; she is also dubbed the "Sword Dancer" because of the way she fights. However, she will not murder. One night, she happens to meet a blonde, Ikus, in the middle of the desert, who seems to have a correlation to "The Third". And thus her adventure begins...

I do so like shows that have interesting and good characters. Overall I think that this was a wonderful show except I do not like when shows invoke the whole planet consciousness idea. Fortunately there was more of a realistic reasoning to the the consciousness than is present in most shows, so I do not really feel to offended by it.
We start with Honoka a jack of all trades who does anything for cash save taking human life. She has certain powers and abilities that go beyond the norm, though that is explained in detail. To tell much about the show would be to spoil it some, so I will just say that there are four arcs each of which has a final encounter though they can not be considered combats for the most part. It seems that this show specifically does not hold combat and violence as the way to solve most problems though at times it is shown to be a necessity. There was a lot of character development though mainly only with the lead, Honoka. Of the other characters that were with us long enough to develop only Millie and the teacher were the type that were designed to be able to develop. There was the tank and then there were the two thirds and then there was Iks. I guess there was a bit of development with Iks but it was very subtle. Maybe Bogie the tank developed a bit too. By their nature it seemed that they were not designed to change and develop.
The animation was superb and the music went well with it. I did not watch it in Japanese but in the English dub. I found the dub to be one of the best I have ever watched. The voice actors were perfect for their parts and they did a marvelous job in conveying the characters emotions and reasoning. I was going to watch it in the Japanese but I did not really like the narrator's voice much so I switch to the English and was very satisfied, so I can not comment on the Japanese voice acting at all really.
I do recommend this show but be mindful that there is some mysticism and it could be used to convey some small portion of the political left's philosophy.

The Third could have been better.
It’s similar to Kino no Tabi with its independent and tough female protagonist, a friendly talking machine, and philosophical questions. But Kino does it better.
The Third tries too hard to be deep and meaningful and only manages to be, too often, shallow or nonsensical. The annoyingly stereotypical child villain, bland blond love interest, and "mysterious" elfin-eared guy don't help the show either. The characters fall flat with only a few notable exceptions.
Main character Honoka is one of those exceptions and makes a good lead, strong and independent but with a plucky spirit that makes it easy to like her. She's a jack of all trades, willing to do any job except assassinations, and is fond of spouting poetry as she wanders the desert with her talking tank. Gun-wielding health teacher Paifu also makes a snazzy addition to the cast.
Visuals are pretty good; no matter how many times we see it, desert sands and brilliant starlit skies never get old. One memorable scene involves a field of flowers that bloom only after dusk, making the desert glow with a soft silver light.
The ideas touched on in the show have potential. There's the cost of war and technology, the price for killing, the beauty of the natural world. But most of them aren’t developed well in the anime.
The Third: Girl With a Blue Eye is a decent show with a likable main character and good ideas, but in the end, falls short in execution. I don't regret watching, but have already forgotten most of it. 6/10

This Unique yet extremely meaningful anime isn’t something everyone could enjoy. Not only, it requires audience to goes into deep thought of the meaning of existence and life. This anime speaks of philosophy and many other important and deep issues that we humans have nearly forgotten. I don’t consider myself fully understand the story or what the anime trying to tell me but I believe whatever mentioned in this anime is not something to joke around.
Simply put, this anime comes with really great actions sequence and animation quality. The desert surrounding and the mecha were amazing. Characters were beautiful, interesting, and appealing. However, the character design is lacking in consistency… a serious one too…
Story plot was really complicated and deep in meaning. Due to the nature of this anime that speaks of life and existence of humanity, I can understand how the studio find it hard to arrange the plot properly but nevertheless it was really well done.
The title “The Third" is something to wonder about… as much as I have my own understanding and opinion about “The Third", is best for audience to watch and understand the fact and philosophy by themselves.
Songs were nice and meaningful, having a narrator in the anime really helps. All in all this anime is not meant for kids. Best recommended to those who wants something deep and to think about and most importantly… have the time to watch it. The battle scene maybe interesting but that’s not what the anime was meant to be… at least in my opinion. In any cases please have a good watch…

The Third is a quite interesting anime, good plot, good visual, good music. It uses a kind of "tell-a-story-person" that talks in between like this: "And she didnt know that she was about to meet the love of her life" (not that it has something to do with the anime) wich is something I never seen in an anime before. I liked it.
The world is healing after a enourmus war some time ago, 1/5th of the population is alive and a faction named The Third takes control and runs things and makes a law called "Technos Taboo", wich basicly means that they run how much technlology the humans may have/use
Story: About a girl that is a kind of mercenary, she does all kinds of jobs, but not assasinations. Her best friend/home is an AI (that runs a tank, and she lives in it). One night she meets a strange person in the middle of the desert, just standing there. She notice some bugs chasing him so she helps him out. After that an adventure begins.
The Third is an organisation that rules the world with strict orders because of mankinds mistakes in the past. Therefore they cant only use so much technology, This faction is also after Hinoka as she has broken the "law" of technos taboo (aka technology law), And they are also after this strange person named Iks that hinoka saves
Visuals: Real good, A small blend of 3D to 2D in some scenes. Great animation overall
Sound: Love the music, love the sound of the souroundings.
Characters: As I said there was a story-telling-voice, (the story telling voice is the AI, im quite sure of it) in the background from time to time wich made you get to know the characters a lot better than in an ordinary anime, and the way they grew was real good.
The story/anime moves a bit slow but thats alright because it isn't that slow. It didn't bother me at all.
Overall I give this anime a 10/10
