Binbou Shimai Monogatari works on a pretty good concept; the lives of two very poor sisters, despite living in poverty, they’re still happy and gets by life due to their very close relationship. The show became pretty heart-warming seeing how Kyou and Asu support each other physically and mentally. It’s very easy to feel connected with the characters in the show.

Though, I’ll like to see a step beyond “loving each other"? and more of “what they’ll do for each other"?, which is what the series ought to bank on. The “loving each other"? part sometimes gets too cheesy (like talking in sync, holding hands and laugh… etc), making the story feels shallow. I also hoped to see more of the problems caused by their poverty but well… it seemed the story lean too much “having each other is enough"?.

I like the chibi use and the rather cute swirling cheek patterns and the deadpan eyes, but otherwise the animation doesn’t have anything else praise-able. It wasn’t a surprise when I found out it was made by Toei, well, the studio that I probably dislike the most. The animation isn’t that smooth or detailed. The opening/ending themes are kind of fitting but forgettable, and I really don’t like the choice of voice actor for Asu. Asu’s voice seemed too forced-cute. And the supposedly melodic voice of the neighbor… what? It was quite bad!

This anime had a good plot and concept to work on, but it wasn’t really well animated or portrayed… well, pity. I still enjoyed it though.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this anime yet. I first watched it about 6 or 8 months ago. I pulled it up again recently, and as I sat watching it, I remembered why I loved this series. Its not perfect, there are problems with it. The artwork is occasionally subpar. The OP and ED are forgettable as well. Yet, this is one of my favorite anime series. Because simply, it is one of the most touching, poignant shows I have ever seen. Heart-warming, making me cry literally every episode, with the love the 2 sisters show for each other. On top of that, a liberal dose of humor to liven it up. To me it is a masterwork of storytelling.

Its the story of 2 young sisters, as they struggle to survive on their own. Having lost their mother when they were very young, they lost their father due to his own problems, and have had to try to survive on their own without parents ever since. With the older sister working odd jobs in order to feed them and pay rent, the younger sister cooking and cleaning the home. Along with this, they attend school, and live as best they can.

At only 10 episodes, its is a very short series, and yet it is worth the time spent. Each episode is fun, and enjoyable to watch. And brings you nearly to tears with the depth of the love the 2 sisters show for each other, as well as showing all the people around them, who care about them, and care for them. I recommend this show very highly.

This is my first review for any anime I've watched from this point.

Binbou Shimai Monogatari is a sad and sweet innocent heart-touching anime involving two sisters Kyou (15) and Asu (9). Having no parents and enduring against poverty, they try making life as happy as ever through their everyday encountering life. After watching this anime, your life will never be the same as the next step to being a soft-hearted and understanding person in general.

As willingly and honest to regard, Binbou Shimai Monogatari is the one and only anime I cried aside from other drama animes I've watched (i.e., Rumbling Hearts, Maria-sama ga Miteru, School Rumble [if you can call that drama..] and etc). The last episode touched my heart the most especially when Kyo attempts to peel an apple for Asu.

This anime is all about life. What makes this anime invigorating is putting yourself into their situations. I'm amazed how accurate this anime puts into people's hearts especially the two sisters according to age. They are both adorable and truly understand and comprehend the meaning and purpose of love, caring and teamwork. This anime contains package of simple comedy and easy drama. Most suitable for older children IMO.

Adorable as the sisters are, they aren't too cute but that's a good thing. I can't stand overly cute characters who thinks they're so pitiful that everyone has to give a crap for even the most minor problems ever. It seriously makes me think they're fakers with a cute mask on even unintentionally.

One character I admire is Asu. At first, her voice maybe irritating and hard getting use to but i felt amazed of her strength and potential by her age. I felt stupid regarding that since I get irritated hearing Japanese voices of kids. I really wonder how the sisters look like after 10 years. =)

One thing the anime flaws is its short storyline. I really hoped they had a longer series because I really enjoyed every episode of it how being poor with no parents feels like.

Animation and story is simple but it doesn't change the heart of this anime whatsoever. The drama and the bond between the sisters are unimaginably strong no matter how hard the problems they encounter. This is what makes the anime unique and pure. Not some lousy fanservice slice of life anime.

OP and ED sound sweet as they are and shows divine hope through the sisters' life struggle.

Don't be fooled by the underratedness of this anime because I RECOMMEND this anime to EVERYONE especially to older children.
VERY POSITIVE and reality based!!! A good lesson to teach kids and teens how to be humble.

Final words: A dramatic masterpiece .

Binbou Shimai Monogatari is a wonderful series that is very heart-warming. You really feel the love in this series. Kyo and Asu have an extremely adorable relationship, you'll absolutely love them. I loved them similar to how family-love or loving my cat :3

You'll see the characters learn, and you will too. But the difference is, you will see the characters grow. They give you a lot of cute pointers to survive through the drought of life, these are during the commercial breaks. The one I distinctly remember (because it's also seen in Simpsons), "if you collect all the small soap bars, you can put it together to make one".

This anime made me smile, laugh, annoyed at times, and tear up with happiness. It's truly about life, and it encompases all possible feelings. At those annoyed times, the scenerios were so frustable, but it was in two episodes. I teared up at silly moments and I'm actually a bit embarassed about it...

The animation and art are pretty and fluffy. I love the blush spots on the characters. There were times when the animation was rugged-like when the characters walked, but it was very minimal (but still noticeable). Overall, good art and animation. The music is touching, but not well remembered. In contrast, the OP and ED songs are memorable because the melody is pretty unique, and the style changes within the song itself.

I didn't expect much of an ending, because each episode seemed to solve a different dilemma. In fact, I felt that it didn't really end. The style of this anime really does reflect our lives. Another different thing about Binbou Shimai Monogatari is that, while the episodes are seemingly one-shots, the outer characters reappear.

This anime was touching, and I looked forward to watching each episode.

This might not have been a well known anime or known by most people, but i found it as the most unimaginable heart warming anime. Its a really simple and soft anime. There’s no need for great animation effects, complicated and long story, or good music to be a good anime.

Binbou Shimai Monogatari is about 2 sisters' life, that’s all. Although its not much, but that’s not little either. Anyone who watch this will become real soft hearted, if an already soft person is watching this, they might cry in every episode.

Their life is poor, but they were always happy together, and their bonds are unimaginable strong. It would be rude to say their poor life is interesting since every episode seems to show unimaginable happiness and satisfaction.
