Definitely an anime that caught my eye. Of all the anime OVA's I watched this year Kikoushi Enma and Karas were the top of my list favorites.
Kikoushi Enma is typically about two 'demon hunters' who are almost complete opposites of each other representing 'fire and ice'. They hold up a detective agency in search for supernatural renegade demons that crossed over.
First thing that runs through your mind is probably WHOA CLICHE x1000! There's a ton of Demon hunting, Supernatural animes out there! Well this one is quite different I'll tell you.
The theme is DARK, real DARK. Keep your kids away from the screen while you watch since it deals with quite a number of gore, gruesome and adult themes. Also the HAT talks! And so does the Kappa!
Animation- 10/10
Nicely rendered, crisp and the motion flows nicely. All the dark themes are done RIGHT, with perfect mood and scenes that will glorify and intensify the atmosphere. The only anime that rivals these graphics would be Elfen Lied *If it was darker* or Witch Hunter Robin.
Character- 9/10
You'll definitely find some sort of attachment to the characters and the dark situations they set themselves in. And each character has their charm from the lazy talking hat to the kappa that works for the two beautiful wizard demon hunters. Even the Disgusting demons have a hint of detail to them that compensates their gruesomeness and animation.
Sound- 8/10
Average, I didn't complain about the sound, but I cant really praise it either. They're mostly quiet, low and suspenseful which fits the mood nicely.
Story- Not your typical Demon Hunting Anime, this one is for the suspense and horror fans! With dark mood, dark character, dark setting and an even darker looking monsters. The only light in this anime is the city lights or Enma's hair.
Definitely a nice watch for all you fans above the age of 16. This anime is Elfen Lied in the dark, and we like the dark! Man... how many times did I have to say Dark in this one review?
