I don't normally go in for action/fighting shows. I've seen too many really bad ones, and there are far too few good ones to make up for it. Mostly what I hate is how poor the story is plotted, how poor the motivations of the characters are, and how it seems the world is twisted so that they never go to the police, but rather feel that you have to fight and conquer everything yourself. There is a little bit of that of course, but when it comes right down to it, fighting to the death is simply not the way of the world, or rather it shouldn't be. And shows where it is, like Ikkitousen really bother me. I simply can't watch that type of anime. This one for the most part is no different.

Kenichi is a loser who decides after meeting the girl of his dreams, that he wants to become stronger. To be able to defend himself and the girl he likes. So, he joins a martial arts dojo, and trains under a series of Ultimate Masters, who find that even though he doesn't have talent, amazingly enough, his determination and ability to absorb damage, make up for it. Now setting aside the stupidity and silliness of the plot, its overall fairly enjoyable. That is of course, until they get back to the main story which carries through all the way to the end of the 50 episodes. That of Kenichi fighting and eventually defeating progressively stronger guys, until hes facing inhuman characters, and of course is one himself.

I mentioned this before, but what really bothers me about this story as well as others of its ilk is the way they develop the plot. Yes, it adds emotional impact when they do something to Kenichi's little sister, but more then anything else it irritated me, that they were so obviously toying with my emotions. The overall stupidity of the story didn't help either. I actually surprise myself when I realize that I'm watching another fighting show, when I've seen so many bad ones already. What surprises me even more is that I'm willing to watch more of them. Not really sure what that is.

Anyway, when all is said and done, I admit I enjoyed this show, enough to recommend it to others. But in doing so, I have to admit that having seen it once, I know I won't watch it again. The humor and the Ecchi in it wasn't as good as Ikkitousen for instance, and especially not as good as the ultimate silly fighting show, Sumomomo. Likewise the story doesn't even come close to other more serious fighting shows like Yawara. So go ahead and watch it, but be aware there are lots better shows out there. Including all 3 that I just mentioned. If you're into martial arts, the others are better, but if you've already watched them, and are looking for a silly fighting show, this one isn't a bad one to kill a bunch of time with.

I'm not going to lie. I hated this series. The words "lowest common denominator" can easily be applied to this series, and it has nothing to do with math.

Imagine this: Put Kenshiro from FotNS, a random ninja from Basilisk, Tony Jaa of Ong Bak fame, any deceptively weak looking martial artist/artisan, a grandmaster from a Chinese Wuxia novel, an undefeated martial arts demon in his old age, and have them train a student together. A recipe for success, right? Well, if you left it to the creators of this series... WRONG.

I honestly don't even know how I got through Kenichi. It was built entirely on cliches, the plot is laughably bad, and the characters are completely caricatures of people from other, better shows. It takes the Karate Kid/Hajime no Ippo formula, twists it by introducing absolutely impossible training regimens for the sake of slapstick, and expects it to work. For some, maybe. For the rest of us with a bit of taste and logic, it's a waste of 18 hours.

Look at it this way, would losing to your friend at five years of age instill anyone with such a sense of murder and rage that they would give up the rest of their lives to fighting? Not just typical fighting, but deathsports where people are killed. I know this is supposed to be an anime, but come on, motivation can't come weaker than that. In fact, the motivation for every character in this series is flimsy beyond reproach; it's that bad.

The formula and flow of the series basically follows as such; Kenichi gets beat up, Kenichi learns one move from one of the six masters, Kenichi fights guy who beat him up, Kenichi MAGICALLY USES that one move he learned one episode ago to win. Rinse, repeat, vomit. I can recall two instances out of 50 episodes where this wasn't so, and one shouldn't count because it was at the end and he uses everything he's "learned" throughout the series to fight.

I will admit though, some of the characters were interesting, and considering that there were 50 episodes, one would think that these potentially decent characters would get plenty of screen time. Wrong again. The show focuses far too much on the whining main character and his sexed-up love interest, and really suffers because of it. But it is because of these flashes of mediocrity in a sea of crap that keeps me from rating it even lower than it is.

The animation is nothing short of bland, and even in its most action packed moments, elicits little more than an "oh." And honestly, who cares about music; it's anime, music is used primarily as background noise. I was too busy hating on the visual parts to pay any attention to the aural ones.

Martial Arts anime do not come any worse than this; an aimless, unfunny attempt at making something serious humorous, falling somewhere far beyond Ikkitousen and Tenjou Tenge in terms of weak plotting and characterizations, and even further in terms of exciting action set pieces. This is a bad anime. Steer clear away from it and watch Ippo/Condor Hero and even Ikkitousen instead.

I first got into this show because I read the manga first. This show follows the first part of the manga pretty well. I didn't find it to be quite as good as the manga but it was entertaining.
Characters: The characters were great. Especially the six masters. They each brought their own personality and great comedy to the show. The Muay Thai kickboxer was my personal favorite. The only problem that I found with the two main characters was that they were kind of bland. You had the weak main character who becomes extremely strong and has girls falling all over him. And then you have the main girl who is pretty and insanely strong but dumb. 7
Art: The art is pretty decent. It wasn't fantastic or anything but it fit the style of the show. 7.5
Voices: I really liked the Japanese voices for the show. I thought that they had really fit the characters well. It helped the comedy along as well. 9
Action: I thought that the fight scenes were nice. I liked how they had showed all of the different fighting styles. 8
Music: I thought that the music was okay. I liked the opening theme but not the ending theme so much. The background music wasn't any thing great either. 5.5
Comedy: I thought that comedy in the show was great. I found myself laughing at the different characters personalities more than anything. 8.5
Overall: The show is fun to watch. If you are looking for a anime to watch that doesn't make you think at all then this is perfect. It is very entertaining. 7.5

Wow Kenichi was one of the coolest and most addicting animes available. This anime contains some of the funniest scenes in anime and how Keinichi has his life very hard because of training. This anime has more complex characters than any other because of how each of his masters have many different personalities for example, they can be nice caring, then switch to a brutal trainer that pushes Kenichi to his limits and how he deals with his masters and a cute girl everyday.

In the looks i would say it is decent. There could be some improvements made but i was so distracted by the storyline that i did not bother worrying. 8/10- looks

Like I said, this anime is a comedy powerhouse. From crazy masters excessively training their disciple while having to go to school and fight bullies that pick on him. 10/10- comedy

The storyline is great with characters like Kenichi and how he has a personality to be cowardly starts growing up and facing his responsibilities of a fighter and a disciple. One of his new friends is a sly alien-looking person who has a big mouth and just talks about Kenichi and causes a lot of fights to occur. Storyline is very addicting i watched it 2 times just because it was so awesome. 10/10- story

The ending kind of upset me because it left a HUGE cliffhanger and the bad guys just retreated and i wanted to know what would happen next, another battle or new foes to face. 7/10 Ending

Overall this anime is very cool and has a load of comedy. I recommend this anime to all those who love fighting and comedy. I promise you would not regret watching this amazing anime.

Kenichi… I first start to get to know this title from the Manga, and was happy to see the anime being produce but sadly I have to say the anime isn’t anywhere near the manga but then again it is entertaining in it’s own ways.

What I really enjoyed about the series is practically 2 things, the fighting scene of various martial arts and style as well as the GIRLS available in the series. The fighting scene was quite nice but what I really like about the series is the girls… yes girls… babes… boobs… erm… ahem… not exactly boobs… but yea… boobs… I mean… I always wonder if those ‘ahem’ ever get into their way when they fight? Ok… simply put the girls are a spectacular watch, the guys were finely portrayed especially Apachai Hopachai and Akisame… both of them give me the deepest impression for me.

Recommend to most audience and can be a family series. Jokes were entertaining and for whatever reason it was made for, the series was quite well done. Although the series have a relatively under moderate animation quality, but that is pretty much the downside of this series.

Well, this is a story based on a cliche "weak guy turns strong after learning martial arts", so if you think at something like new groundbreaking story... Forget it, the story develops based on the appearance of new enemies that the "hero" Kenichi must defeat, and on the complications his masters and "friends" bring to him. There´s no ultimate purpose or a "save the world" motivation, so he is just fighting the guy who appears next...

The characters also don´t develop much, after all the episodes i´ve seen so far (34), their behaviour is still basically the same, althought a few "enemies" have turned to friends of kenichi, this was not unexpected if you follow the series.
There were no major changes on the most important characters relations as well, altought there are a few hints that possibly a romance is developing, there is no significant progress so far.

so, why botter watching? Because its fun, there are a lot of strange characters, the martial arts are cool and the story actually goes forward... If this is not enough and you are looking for some pretty graphics or romance, don't watch it because there's none so far. Actually, compared to other animes released this year the graphics are below average.

But is good for all people (like me), that are kinda tired of nonsensical teenage romance and are just looking for some fun and a story that doesn´t put you to sleep.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is a good anime to pass some time while waiting for the fansubbers to do what they do best.

Storyline : Its the usual weak nerdy guy who gets stronger and kicks the crap out of all the people who think they can take him. You know, the usual stuff. The story moves pretty quickly in this anime but not so fast that you miss something important, if you do miss an entire episode then you should start panicking.

Characters : Every single character in this anime has a comedic side to them whether their making fun of others or being made fun of. The most comedic character is not the protagonist Kenichi himself, but rather all the martial arts masters he lives with. With that said, the character development is slow. You won't see any development in Kenichi until about episode 10; though he does develop some better martial art skills he is still a sissy. There is some romance in this anime but it's one-sided romance by Kenichi.

Music :I would rank the opening and ending themes around average because that's what they are. Even worse so is the background music gets repetitive.

Art : This anime is no piece of eye candy; it's more like an American car commercial so get ready to see a whole lot of muscles and big boobs. There are not real pretty graphics in this anime, so most what does appeal to people is the fanservice (i.e. above average breasts and tight outfits)

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi will be a great anime for those people who are into fighting, comedy anime with a side of ecchi, but if you're in it for a detailed story and beautiful graphics skip it.

style:8,0
I think the style they draw it is nice it's a good way to draw it and it's clear how every one moves. I think it's nice because I like anime and mange and the way they draw it looks really realistic and the moves are clear in the anime of History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi.

voice:9,0
I think the voices fit great with the characters and it's funny that a big mauy thai person has a little low voice (with the Japanese voices). I think it fits great because the tough guys has low voices and the person who aren't tough has low voices but the funny thing about the voice(with the Japanese voices) is that a big tough mauy thai boxer has a low voice.

so, I think more persons needs to watch kenichi because it's a cool manga and anime and I’ve heard that there are not that many persons that watch kenichi. the voices are great.

the rate of the anime and the manga of history's strongest disciple kenichi that I give to it is a 8,5.

Let me start off by saying this is one of my favorite shows currently being aired. The basic story is cliche. A humble, picked-on nice guy type is put in a situation where he is constantly bullied and needs to become stronger to survive.

Although this formula is a bit overdone in anime as a genre and has a tendancy to be campy, this show is an exception. The character development is solid focusing on the emotional and personality growth Kenichi goes through due to the fear and humiliation dealt him by the members of his karate club. Kenichi, having been a member for some time, has been relegated to the "punching bag/ gopher" of the club and is subsequently challenged by the rookie bully of the club loser must quit. This leads him on a road of personal growth and discovery that transforms kenichi from "weak legs" into history's strongest disciple.

Animation: The art style is a little rough around the edges and a bit derivative with respect to the masters that train him. But it lends itself well to the character development and has great potential for future episodes. It also makes the various disciplines easier to relate to for the uninitiated. There is also a healthy dose of fanservice in the anatomical proportions and design of Miu and Hagane the female characters (think DOA physics) as well as fast paced and smooth fight scenes.

Music: The opening intro Is not to my tastes the harsh 80's guitar riffs don't inspire me. The in show sounds are reminiscent of the nintendo era but somehow manages to fit perfectly into the art and style of the show (go figure). The ending sequence is smooth and melodic and finishes the show off nicely.

Characters: Are great and well developed emotionally, although I'd like a little more background on each teacher and how they all meet.

Overall: This show has so many little odd ball aspects which if taken individually would have poisoned any show, but when combined have formed a humorous and exciting story that will keep you hooked till the next release. This is a definite must see anime for those looking for an escape from the all too prevalent romance and drama fare popular this time of year.
