A rather short OVA for those who can’t get enough of Nobue and the rest of the girls. It sure is nice to see them back again, though it’s only for 3 eps, which is kind of short and can’t help but to wish for more. Art quality is still the same: the simple pastel styled coloring and cute character designs.
Since this is after all an OVA, it is not a surprise that we can see the production team putting more effort in the release, notably in the sound effects – some of which we find familiar since they’re used in the TV series, as well as some new ones. Thus special compliments have to go the music section, particularly how the sad music is being played during the trademark gag featuring Miu being knocked onto the ground by Nobue. That instrumental actually made the scene even more hilarious and memorable than those in the series, partly because it’s not overdone (I mean, hey, it’s only a 3-episode OVA) and also it’s pretty interesting to see that beloved scene being given a bit of a new twist. So yeah, like in the series, the background sound effects did well in enhancing lots of the comical situations. The music style is also the same, though I prefer the OP used in the series.
Is the OVA as good as the series? Well, if you’ve enjoyed the series, I certainly don’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy this one. In fact, there are several scenes in the OVA which I actually found to be more hilarious than the series. Also, while the series focuses mainly on Miu, whereby she’s practically the soul of the show, the OVA has the other girls being the center of the gags, though naturally, Miu provides the bonus vibe and gets the audiences’ last laugh.
To cap it all, Ichigo Marshmallow as a whole, is must-watch for fans of slice-of-life and light comedy.

Well… a short OVA following the series Ichigo Mashimaro a couple of years back. The story isn’t anything special; it seemed like just a few additional episodes for the series. It’s slightly disappointing though, the OVA do not have much of that “cute humor, but more about Miu’s eccentric antics which proceed to getting whooped by Chika or Nobue. But still, the story style pretty much stays the same, and it’s still lovely to see the cast in their daily lives.
The animation seems to have gotten slightly better? It’s light color theme and simple lines help brings the mood of its genre. The backgrounds are pretty detailed too.
I could complain about the music; while the series have nice and compatible OPs and EDs, the music this time round didn’t really interest me.
If you liked Ichigo Mashimaro TV, you’ll have to watch this one. Well, personally I somewhat didn’t enjoy this as much as the TV series, but I’ll say it’s still a rather interesting watch.

The OVA Ichigo Mashimaro takes up from where the series left off. Showing the day to day events in the lives of four friends, and their older sister. This is the ultimate in slice of life shows. A show that is worth watching, not because of extraordinary events, but rather because the characters themselves are unique and adorable.
This is an unusual show. Each episode is essentially a stand alone episode. You don't need to have seen previous episodes in order to enjoy the next. It helps, but its not needed. Because its a slice of life show, there is no real story progression to speak of. The characters are introduced, and then they just let the characters and the situations speak for themselves. This leads to some slow moments at times, but also some of the greatest humor. Watching the second episode, I laughed myself to tears.
The animation and music basically the same as the series, no change whatsoever. As I enjoyed it the first time around, I didn't particularly feel any need for improvement.
The OVA is just as fun and amusing as the series was. I can't give it a perfect score simply because at times the pace made me sleepy. However on the plus side, after its over I find that I want more. I don't want it to end with only 3 episodes. Give me more!
