Murder Princess was a good way for me to murder the free time I had. It had interesting characters, good voice acting and animation quality that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the present day animes.
As for the story, it starts out strong, maintains its pace in the middle but fizzles out before it can end. Hence I'm docking it points as I am disappointed with the ending. It also had a tendency to focus on a villain that was more of a mid level boss then the villains who were bigger fish.
The soundtrack suits the mood of the characters and what they are doing.
Overall I enjoyed watching it and for the parts in the story that were lacking, I picked up the manga to try and fill the blanks in, only to realize that the manga did not help at all.

Story/Dev: 60%
The story isn’t really unique, just a simple one about two girls who’s souls switched bodies, resulting in the change in their destiny, have to face with the issue of how the Princess had her country taken, and have to find means to get it back and maintain order. Well, one can’t really expect sophisticated plot since it is only 6 OVAs. What really score the points for Murder Princess are the visuals and sounds.
Animation/Graphics/Design: 80%
Music: 80%
Characters/Dev: 50%
The graphics quality is good and I particularly like the designs for the image of Princess Falis: drops of blood stains on her white gown (after the fights), wielding a katana in one hand, a dagger in the other, the gleaming crown on her confident smile and crimson eyes – she is just so cool (and hot). Throw in rock music (instead of using classical music for the usual Princess themed anime) in the background, and it gives the series some sort of punk, rebellious atmosphere . Romi Paku, the seiyuu for Falis, did a good job in bringing out Falis’ personality and image, with her cool deep voice.
The flaws:
The length of 6 OVAs is seriously too short, resulting in the lack of character development, thus not enough in portraying Falis’ attitude and spunk. Also, the actual fight sequences are rather short and lacking, which is a real letdown. The stage is set: rock music to match the cool graphics, all that’s missing is the following animation for the fights.
Summary:
Well, the really isn’t much to talk about Murder Princess as 6 OVAs is seriously too short. Hence the relatively low rating of 7. It had lots of potential, if developed into a proper series of maybe about 10+ episodes. Nevertheless, this is worth the watch. I like how the Princess Fallis is both elegant and punk at the same time.
Personal overall rating: 75%
