Bokurano is a great story; it tells of how a bunch of kids willing to sacrifice their lives to protect the world, even though they were tricked to do so in the first place. Each of these 15 kids had their (usually sad) story told, which then develops to become the reason they fight for. I picked this up to see how great it can be (and partially due to its OP), even though I know this will end in tragedy (well, depends how you see it)
But in the end, I still didn’t manage to enjoy it, knowing that they didn’t fought to protect the world, they fought to protect their world… killing some other world in process. And after all that’s been done they’re still doomed to die… even if they found whatever they’re fighting for. I can’t seem to enjoy tragedies like this; which is the same reason why the director of this anime actually hates the anime that he’s directing himself.
The animation style is rather old-school, but it wasn’t bad. The OP was one of the reasons that led me to watch this anime; however, both the EDs are quite forgettable.
I won’t mind a deus ex machine scenario if at least there’s some kind of hope injected into the story, but that’s what the original story writer doesn’t want. So anyway, this anime came unappreciated from people who dislike tragedies like me.

Plot: 9/10 While this is considered a mecha anime, the story is very unique and keeps you very entertained with surprises and twists. There is the main plot with Zearth (Giant Robot), there are also the stories for each child, and the adults have their own stories to an extent. This a very deep story with the children taking the forefront, then the adults who have their own ideas for what approach to take in relation to Zearth.
Animation: 8/10 While nothing spectacular, the animation was very smooth and clean.
Characters: 10/10 This is the high point of the series, one of the best character development animes I have seen. Each child has their own story and their characters are very well explained, leaving you satisfied. The adult characters that interact with the pilots are very well done, some want to look after the children, and some want to exploit them for their own purposes.
Music: 8/10 Opening song Uninstall is nice but nothing else really stands out.
Overall: 9/10 This is a very underrated anime in my opinion. This is a mecha anime, but it is so much more than that with a very deep story. With its twists, turns, sad developments, detailed characters, and good plot this is one not to be missed and I highly recommend it.

I felt that Bokurano had a slow start, at least a bumpy start to keep me keen on continuing the series, but once the main shocker plots unraveled, Bokurano became an incredible series.
The one thing that stands out for this series is that they give you mouth-gapingly tragic surprises. Bokurano is tragedy. Though it does give a lot of drama, I was enticed into it. In addition, when you think you know the plotline, or things are in well-stabilized, they hit you with another shocker! It was exciting.
The opening gave a nice feel. I really like Chiaki Ishikawa. She also sings a lovely song for You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle. The first ending theme seems unsuitable though for what Bokurano is about. ED2 gave a more fitting mood. The artwork was neat. I like how the characters were portrayed "naturally". That is, they weren't completely bishie, or cartoony. The tone was really, really nice. How they used the sunlight and lasers, etc. was great to look at.
I think Bokurano had one of the best well-rounded endings I've ever seen. After finishing up this anime, it gave off a "complete" feel, which is very rare in any anime series. Also, I was impressed that they provided all the answers to the questions I had in my mind throughout the anime. The character work was amazing in this anime. The emotions of greed, lust, and revenge; they were all portrayed here. These extreme expression of emotions (wow, alliteration) are not seen in a lot of anime. It was quite dark.
The ending was very well-done in the character aspect, but left much more lingering thoughts for the science-fiction side. All in all though, Bokurano was a superb production.

I had high hopes for this anime going into it but in the end I feel let down. 15 kids are asked to play a game, not being told all the details they say yes and end up fighting for the earth in a big robot but they also have to pay a price every time they fight in the robot. the main flaw I found in this anime was that they put the biggest plot twist of the story right at the start so before long you're watching the same thing over and over. The only thing there is to look forward to is the different background story that it gives before each fight. There are some small twists in the story after that but nothing that will shock you. Overall, this was an OK anime but the story just didn't have what it takes to hook you from the start and keep as interested in the end as you were in the start.
They did a very nice job with the character developments when they show you their background story and how it turned them into the person they became. In the end, watching this anime won't be a total waste of time because the music and animation are well done and the story is still solid despite lacking the major plot twist that I felt it needed, so in the end I give Bokurano a 6/10

I was actually quite impressed with this series given the fact it has mecha in it. This series has one of the slowest mecha fights you will ever see, but honestly thats not were this series's strength truly is.
The story is very dark and mysterious unlike any series i have seen so far. The second episode really got my blood pumping. When i first watched the first episode i said to myself "O no not another mecha series where kids manage to pilot high tech and magically save the universe'.
The series was pretty much what i thought it was, but with a great twist that got me saying "No Way? the heck is going on?"
I love the way the series was able to blend the main plot with character development and shows some realism. Even kids could be mature when it comes down to it. I would recommend this series to anyone who is into mystery and some touchy moments of the real world. This series shows how an individual will do anything they believe in, great way to express human emotions.
Also the opening is also very catchy and the lyrics are just beautiful, I never skipped the intro throughout the series.
The only flaw i saw in this series was that there are no follow ups meaning they kinda leave you using your own imagination to conclude certain things which is Allright, but this flaw doesn't hurt the series overall.
Check this series out, you may get to learn something from the real world if you already haven't experienced it already.

Bokurano is an unique anime in almost everything: plot, characters and music. Also, this anime IS NOT mainly about mecha.
Plot 10/10: The plot in Bokurano is the best plot that I have seen in an anime. It's full of mystery and very intriguing. The events that happen are very unexpected, and this is one of the main things that I like about Bokurano.
Music: 8/10: The opening song is really good, and the lyrics fit the anime perfectly. The background music sometimes gets a bit dull and boring.
Characters: 8/10: Almost every episode focuses on one character and reveals their pasts and their families. The characters are really well developed and you can really relate to them in real life. It's not your average anime kid who wants to be the best at everything or something like that.
Drawing 9/10: The drawing style is, how to say this, comfortable. It's pretty nice. Makes the fights look cool.
Overall, Bokurano is a great anime which I recommend for any anime fan.

Bokurano is an amazing work of art, in character, plot and animation alike. No matter what you may expect this anime to be like, you will be taken by surprise.
I want to give examples, but that would include spoilers. Pretty much the series goes into depth of the lives of each child before the unspeakable, yet inevitable occurs.
What makes Bokurano unique is that the personalities of the children are so... human. Even though they are Japanese, I can even find connections to people I have known in real life. And it's not like every person is traumatic or has an amazing history. They are real kids and it's interesting to see how each of them react to the conflict presented in the story.
Despite what you may think, the series does NOT revolve around the mecha. Of course, it does play a major part, but this could not be considered a fighting genre.
In fact, the plot is quite unpredictable. You don't even get a hint of which direction the series is headed until the end of the second episode.
And then, the moment you think a pattern is formed, the series breaks its own rules.
I don't judge lightly, but this anime is by far the most original, involving and spine-chilling series I have ever seen.
It is one of those stories filled with dark moments and light moments. Unfortunately those light moments are light enough to make the dark moments seem so much more darker. It's definitely a different kind of horror then you're used to.
And as a bonus, the opening song, 'Uninstall', is heart-pounding, with a fitting ending (make sure you read the song translations and see if you can't spot the ironies).
I would suggest this series to anyone who is looking for something new and out of the ordinary, filled with extremely lovable characters in the middle of a shocking story.
Definitely a 10/10, if not more.
