In terms of animation and special effects, no one can beat this one. Before watching this, I already know that this one is not a typical anime. But when the Opening Song plays, I was really impressed because the animation really fulfills my expectations.

Story: 8/10
The main story is not that complicated. They only want to know what really happened when the “Dennou Coil? Phenomenon occurred. This will only become complicated because this is the age of very highly developed virtual reality. It has a very unique plot and storyline. It is action packed plus has a small amount of romance that you will truly enjoy.

Animation: 10/10
From the movements of their hair, to the definition of gravity in their feet, this is way above the level of any other anime. For me it is a 11/10 performance because this animation is another stepping stone for the new age of animes. The special effects are also fascinating, and until now, I am really amazed how they make this kind of anime.

Characters: 7/10
All the characters are lovable. All the cast are beautiful cute maidens and handsome guys, plus they are all wearing glasses! Cool! The only flaw to the characters is their lack of development. Even if they are only middle schoolers, they should have deeper personalities.

Music: 8/10
The special effects are really great! The sounds when they attack Satchi are really realistic. The BGMs are also good. The opening and ending song is also good, even though it is quite sad.

Overall: 8/10
This is really an enjoyable one. After watching this I wish I can gain access to my computer anywhere, call my friends using my pinky and thumb and I wish I have a cute cyber pet too.

Story - 8/10
Characters - 8/10
Animation - 10/10
Sound - 9/10
Enjoyment - 7/10

Dennou Coil is a very intriguing Sci-fi anime showing the fun possibilities of mixing reality with virtual reality, whilst including supernatural elements that adds a lot of suspense and mystery to the story. ^_^

The story basically follows the adventures of different elementary kids who are trying to uncover the secrets of this augmented reality. As the series begins it doesn’t give the viewer much to go on, except a few things you’ll notice and able to pick up on straight away. Once having a basic understanding about what this whole plot and story is about, it becomes very interesting to watch, as these little kids end up discovering different mysteries. The characters themselves are pretty ordinary and don’t really do much for the story, accept later on once the story begins to find its place. However viewers may find themselves getting annoyed by some of the characters, but the intriguing and dramatic story will help you forgot about these little annoyances.

The animation has a certain uniqueness to it, as it seamlessly blends in drawn animation with 3D CG. It is not all the time when you find an anime which works so well with CG but it actually helps portray the half-virtual world in this one. The music is pretty good as well, with fun melodies while normal things are happening, dreary tunes for the mysterious moments and exciting tunes for the pockets of action throughout.

Overall Dennou Coil is an intriguing sci-fi anime that is similar to "Ghost in the Shell", in the way that it shows another possibility of future’s technology. The story itself is very interesting, as it somehow portrays a realistic possibility of developed city, whilst also managing to incorporate many mysterious supernatural elements as well. This helped to add some incredibly intense drama in the highly eventful 2nd half of the series. Yet amongst all the fun, interesting and exciting episodes are a few incredibly dull and boring ones, in the 1st half, which let the series down.

Other than this, Dennou Coil is definitely an anime worth watching and I would have given it a higher overall rating but the uneventful 1st half of the series prevented me from doing that.

Dennou Coil has to be one of the most unique shows I have ever had the privilege of watching. It is for the most part slow paced, taking a long time to build the story and develop the characters. So many things are confusing throughout the show, but you go along simply because of how amazing everything is. A futuristic computer based world where nothing is as it seems to be. Everything is viewed through the prism of these glasses, which allow you to see the unreal world. Glasses which have some unfortunate drawbacks as well. The story revolves around a group of young kids, in their final year of elementary school. I don't want to get too much more in depth as its such a great story, it deserves to be experienced.

The visuals are amazing. They're understated throughout the show, but so much obvious effort went into the smallest detail that I was simply amazed by how spectacular everything was. The OP and ED are likewise low key, giving a laid back feel, worthy of this show. The sounds, the science, the ideas behind this show are all extremely well done. I can't remember a show that impressed me more then this one in the past year. I can't give it a perfect score as it didn't entertain me as well as I would have liked. Particularly the final 5 or 6 episodes where the ultimate enemy is eventually revealed. I simply didn't care for how they went about it, or for the person they chose as the "enemy". Also it seemed like things were dragged out longer then they should have been. Everything else however was simply outstanding.

Other reviewers mentioned the fun and amazing episode 12. The "Beard" episode indeed should in particular not be missed. It definitely reminded me of the Simpsons episode where a civilization grew up in Lisa's decayed tooth.

Overall, there are other shows that entertained me more, that I have and will watch over and over again, but this is one show, that having seen it, I'll go out and recommend watching it to all my friends. It is simply such a masterpiece, that I can't imagine having missed out on watching it. At the end, a part of me was happy for the successful and final conclusion that essentially wrapped up all parts of the story, another part of me was sad that I had to leave this imaginative world containing Isako and Yasako behind.

A pretty strange series, but it’s developed on quite an innovative idea. This series is all about virtual-reality; a second world is created on the same existence plane, but can only be viewed through the glasses all main characters wear. In this series the events in the virtual reality can very much affects real-life events… you’ll see that in the series.

I was very bored for the first 10+ episodes of the series. Why? I was kinda slow to accept the stuffs mentioned in the paragraph above. Virtual reality wasn’t really what I thought it should be like.

Like everyone said, episode 12 is pretty awesome, which from that point on I began to enjoy the series. The drawings are simple, maybe rather unique, with rather grayish and pale colours. This combination with the children theme of the series works pretty well. As most of the main characters are children, the series became a quite slice-of-life, which works for me. But unfortunately, the main selling point of the series is the capabilities and difference in lifestyle with the addition of virtual reality, which I wasn’t exactly interested in.

The last part of the show became quite dramatic, but I felt it dragged for too long and became too complicated to deliver a good impact and mood. The ending wasn’t very satisfying for me too.

The OP and ED fit the show well… almost too well. Maybe it felt like the mood of the series never took a turn, which makes it a little more boring.

I felt that there is still room for improvement. 3.5 for quality and 3 for enjoyment value, +1 tilt for creativity… giving this a 8.

Dennou Coil became so much more than I initially thought. I always welcome the nifty technological advances and quirks - they're so, very neat. I bet techy nerds, especially hackers, would absolutely love watching things unfold in this anime. They go through a lot of "internet talk". It was definitely fun.

Gadgets and events I really enjoyed:
The "beard" episode where they were able to view the societies growing at a super speedy rate. It reminded me of that Simpsons episode where Lisa grows a world from her cavity submerged in cola. Interpersonal warfare!

When they talk to each other by cellphones, they simply do the telephone hand gesture.

Then there was the time where Fumie had to utilize the old, dial-type phone. That was quite hilarious.

Of course: Cyberpets. Mojo and Dennsuke were extremely cute, and it was always cool to see that they weren't seen with the naked eye; they're only seen when you have the cyberglasses on.

Megabaa! She was always chuckle-worthy. She displayed the typical comic-relief "grandma" role in that she's forgetful, and has frequent back problems. However, she was super cool in that she's able to materialize a lot of programs and had answers to every cybernet problem.
And there's so much more! Such as the combination of delicious sound effects + animation of the formatting devices (Satchi, 2.0). Yuko Amasawa (Isako) also had her cool encoding moments and projecting accuracy. Blah! I can't stop listing the fun things in this anime.

I think the main word I'd have to use to describe Dennou Coil is "cool". This word isn't to be overlooked, especially since it's not a word I use often. There's so much adventure here, with added mystery throughout (though the mysterious 'feel' didn't predominate until later episodes).

No character stood out, really, but it's the character relationships that keep the ball rolling. Music seemed to be used sparingly. I found that some melodies playing during certain scenes was unfitting. The OP and ED song was very nice though. Spectacular art and animation here, except the lack of detailed facial features; but this provided a more... "non-cartoony" approach which I favoured.

Dennou Coil definitely gives you that Studio Ghibli or Hayao Miyazaki "feel". The adventure is enticing and things end fulfillyingly (that's not even a word!).

I’ll say right off, this is so far my favorite anime of 2007. That being established, here's my breakdown.

Music 8/10- I thought the opening theme was very cool and enjoyed the music throughout. It wasn’t flashy, but it complemented the show well and never got in the way. It also had pretty good variety.

Animation 9/10- My only criticism is that the faces were lacking in detail. I wouldn’t have really noticed if they hadn't paid such detail to the rest of the artwork. The backgrounds are spectacular. What annoyed me a little was overlay of CG, but given that it was a computer image in the show itself, I can’t really hold it against the show.

Plot 10/10- A very cool plot. It was one of the most original concepts I have ever seen inside our own realm of reality. Aside from that it kept me glued to my seat. The development of the Illegals and their relationships with the characters continually intrigued and surprised me. I will admit that it becomes a little abstract towards the end, but that's what people mean by "willing suspension of disbelief."

Characters 9/10- All the characters are good, but it’'s the relationships that unfold between the main characters that really did it for me. Throughout the show the characters are changing, discovering, and growing. I took off one point, even though I should be used to this by now, because the main character was somewhat stereotypical as a timid girl who gradually learns what courage is. That’'s just a peeve of mine.

So, as said, a pretty stupendous piece of work that definitely deserves to be checked out. I give it a 9/10.

graphic/animation: very nice animation, detailed, simple and clean. i like the movements reminded me of ghibli animations. has a quality of a movie. great color combinations. a perfect 10!

music: good music! compatible with the scene, and some music remided me of my neighbor totoro!!! so much to say... but a good 8.

story: very interesting story, in a simple looking town/small city with some ancient structures (shrines for example) almost everybody uses a glasses which you can see creatures, machines and structures made from the cyberworld (or something) that cant be seen with the naked eye. hows that for an interesting story, you got some adventures, mysteries and a bit of romance, add some dozen of cute digital pets. a nice score of 9.

characters: ill say it again it really does remind me of ghibli studio characters! bunch of cute people (except grandma) and speaking of cute... the digital pets and other digital creatures are like from ghibli, from butt-faced dog, a naked mini-man to giant robot, i love em all. perfect 10!!!

its a good anime, with bunch of wierd cuteness and intriguing mystery!!!
