Studio : Production I.G.

Length : 3 OVA

Year : 2007

Genre : Adventure - Drama - Fantasy - Romance - Supernatural

Synopsis :
Syaoran, Kurogane, Fai, Sakura, and Mokona are lead to another world where the environment seems very desolate, and the grounds are very rocky. In fact, the rocky structures are very sharp, no wind could have weathered them this much; just as this was noted, it starts to rain, acid rain. The gang runs for cover to the only place that doesn't seem affected by the acid rain. They become safe from the acid rain, but they are shocked to find that there are a round of bodies, dead, from being shot by arrows

Mokona doesn't sense Sakura's feather, but he does feel a strong power from beneath the building. They soon encounter a group of people in robes who accuse Syaoran and gang that they're thieves! Kurogane gets involved in a battle with the leader, Kamui, the false accusation eventually gets resolved.

The gang manages to find a place to stay, but Sakura is still unconscious. Sakura struggles within her dream, has her dream overtaken her? Also, a very powerful force awakens that is much too familiar to Syaoran.

Story/Dev:
Despite being a mere short length of 3 OVAs, TR has rather in-depth plot development. Then again, this is after all the turning point in the story. Short and fast-paced, it is not only better than the main series, but also captured the essence of the manga well. The story is much more complex, and the mood is much darker than that of the main series which is still rather "light-hearted".

TR also explores the personalities of the characters more: how Fye is constantly hiding his true self, unwilling to open up to the team, the "soft" side of Kurogane, and most importantly, seeing Sakura-Hime taking on the lead role – revealing her tough side, which is rarely seen and is vaguely portrayed in the main series. And of course, the turning point for Syaoran. Finally, not to forget the "aww so sweet " SyaoranXSakura moments.

Animation/Graphics/Design: 80%
Excellent graphics! I love the effect of the contrasting of the bright Magic circles and "blasts" against the dark backdrop—really brings out the "aura" of the scene! TR also showcases more dynamic fight scenes, which were not only way better than those in the main series, but also plain cool.

Music: 75%
The background music is awesome, particularly the track "A Song of Storm and Fire" featuring a choir/modern-classical style music, was dramatic, amplifying the ambiance of the fight sequences.
The OP was pretty decent though, nothing really memorable.

Summary:
TC fans who were turned away by the anime, rejoice for the OVA is simply awesome! Totally unlike the main series! For one thing, the quality of the graphics is way better, and so is the pace .

Personal overall rating: 84%

This series of OVAs basically redeemed the whole anime adaptation of the TRC manga for me. Can't go into the story too much without spoiling the story so I'll just oogle at other things. Really have to give Produciton I.G. a thumbs up for their work.

I couldn't ask for more. Awesome animated fights (they weren't afraid to blood it up), good pacing for the story and plot that was to be told, A-grade performances from the Seiyuu's (Yaye for Mamoru Miyano ^^ also I think Yui Makino does a much better job at Sakura now... compared to when Tsubasa Chronicles first started) Syaoran's 'Raitei Shourai' ~ They also finished it at a good spot where they can easily make a another season to it >.<

I really like magic circles so the opening sequence was pretty cool to me ... the song itself was so-so though, but I really liked the ending song by Maaya Sakamoto.

So yeah for any fans of the TRC manga that dropped the anime like I had, definitely check this one out!
