I was very disappointed with the series, as the synopsis sounded very promising. The idea of puzzles and mysterious eating demons is just so intriguing and rather new. I thought I’ll be in for some awesome mystery series.
I really don’t what they’re playing at with this series. Clearly, this series is anything but mystery, as they deliberately set it in such a way that you know exactly who the criminals are right in the beginning.
There is no doubt that Neuro is smart. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any intelligent opponents to level up the playing field. I’m sure many will agree that Death Note, without L to match Yagami Light’s caliber, would have been less popular and might even be boring. It’s the same here: the criminals are mostly (if not all) a bunch of psychopaths with irrational and illogical motives for committing murders, and their means of murder are all unrealistic and stupid. Really, you need neither Kindaichi nor Conan to figure everything out. There just isn’t any suspense. At all. Indeed, I doubt this series is intending to actually be a Detective show.
Now for the second part of the series. There is mild improvement where the series decides to touch on the supernatural aspects rather than continue with the crime-solving routine. Yes, there is improvement, but still not enough to save the show, because the latter half of the series was rather average, containing nothing really spectacular for supernatural-themed stuffs. Even the so-called main villain didn’t really add any suspense to the show.
I dislike the graphics design. The characters look horrid. Music for OP and ED were decent, but lacking in bgms. The jokes were too repetitive. The only thing I liked out of this show is Neuro’s trademark phrase of “Itadakimasu", uttered when he “consumes"/solves the mystery.
Summary:
Pathetic for a Detective show, average for a supernatural mediocre for a comedy… I seriously don’t know what their objective is in the series.
Personal overall rating: 20%

A cute anime to say the least, Neuro is a lighthearted detective anime with a seemingly not-so-light-hearted cast. Some points about it were disappointing, but I daresay its not the worst anime out there.
Story- Yako is a high school detective with a large appetite and a seemingly innocent demeanor. However the one who really solves the mysteries is her "assistant" who's really a demon using her as a puppet to eat mysteries. The story is average at most. The anime fails to make any incredible thought-provoking mysteries (most of the criminals can be picked out in the first 10 minutes), but some of the larger mysteries that come up later are actually quite interesting in particularly: Sai, Aya, and HAL.
Characters- Pretty predictable to say the least. They are all rather 2 dimensional, but I feel like they are a lot more "stereotyped" compared to their manga counterparts, who actually go more in-depth with Godai's character instead of making him cheap humor like the anime did. Also, I preferred Yako's more serious manga demeanor then her outrageous anime one.
Animation: Average once more. I say the artwork is pretty decent and nice, but its not amazing. They made it very colorful though.
Music: The opening theme and Ending theme are pretty good and the songs within the anime are either forgettable or decent.
Overall, this is a decent anime. Not the greatest, but not terrible either. You will be amused at some points and you do end up wanting to know what happens especially with the killer named Sai.
Although, if you do like this anime, I suggest you read the manga as well.

A pretty average tantei (detective) anime with a few differences. I personally liked it but being a honest reviewer, it was just really okay, I'll go through the good and bad points of the show. A more accurate score would be 7.5 but I chose to round it up cause I actually do like this anime.
+ points:
*Comedy
This anime is pretty hilarious at times. Especially when the demon detective Neuro bullys Yako and his other 'slaves'. the way they solve cases can also be silly to the point of funny. And the overeating of Yako that causes her to be named the piggish detective is a running joke in the series that cracks me up.
*Novelty
A demon detective using a female high schooler as a puppet to solve cases? That's pretty new I feel. Quite a fresh difference from the usual everyone-dies-detective animes =3
*Characters
Yako is hilarious, Neuro is pretty cool and funny too. Their henchman Godai is good comic relief and adds a nice rough feel to their outfit. Akane was quite a good substory and a cute addition. A ghost trapped in a ponytail helping to solve crime??? neat. The two policemen who recur in the series are normal I guess. but I really liked the big villain Sai. He has a really cool storyline and nice abilities/looks.
*Variety
The villains and motives were quite diverse. I rather liked the lineup of villains in this show. Especially the famous singer. Wanna know more? Go try watching the show.
- points:
*Slightly repetitive
For some reason, the show likes to let you correctly predict who the perpetrator is at the start of most minor cases. The manner in which minor cases are solved is also repetitive at times. The lack of attempt at suspense can be a bit irritating. But not overly though cause in certain cases with a greater villain, the above do not apply anymore.
*Poor animation
Not bad to the point of being unwatchable. But certainly enough to be considered a -ve point. More like a 1999 anime than a 2007. But in another note it does add a nostalgic feel to it. I must say I personally liked that.
*Slow start
The initial 2 cases or so were really not that interesting. I managed to get through them and finish the show, but just to warn you guys =p
Overall, a pretty nice anime. My advice is to try watching 3 episodes and if you can't stand it, don't push yourself. This kinda anime, you either like it or you cant stand it.
