I had less fun with this one. I'll admit to laughing in a lot of areas, but I was very unimpressed. Especially with how they ended it. I never liked the Akira shorts, and especially with it being live action, it was even more frownable for me. Sure I heard Akira's super high, energetic, "MOE" voice; but I didn't get to hear her aggitated one.

It certainly was less entertaining than the series, which was expected, but it still had its "Lucky Star" charm. The execution of unique characteristics and the interactions between are amazingly fun. You get everyday (yet not-so-everyday) situations in the cutest perspective. My absolute favourite sequence was Cherry-chan - Iwasaki's dog. I was swooning all over. It was possibly the cutest anime short ever.

Plenty of chuckle-worthy moments. Konata's use of internet meme's, the explanation of Kagami's "tsu" side, some anime costumes. They might have went too crazy with the anime references here. I found that I was lost at some events which made the direction seem quite random. I wish I knew what was referenced at time.

Unlike most people, probably, I wasn't too keep about the MMORPG shorts. The main and only reason being that I don't indulge in these. It was funny to see Hiiragi so lost in it though. So, it wasn't my favourite part. Though I was looking forward to it. That being said, I think the Haruhi pose where some random guy pops out within the game, was the best shot. Good times~

There were some cute and fun moments, but the end sort of gave a bad concluding impression.

KyoAni presents more Konata and gang for more randomness and comedy. It runs for a full 40-minute, which is pretty rare for an OVA, but its good news for Lucky Star fans. It seems that KyoAni has a lot of budget to play with this time as along with the perfect quality of animation, they actually designed a whole RPG world animated in CG. Of course, the Lucky Star style of animation might not be very complex but the animation is incredibly smooth, like the usual KyoAni quality. The complete opposite of Asread quality.

The TV version bore me sometimes but I’ve enjoyed (almost) every minute of the OVA, which I think features original content. I’m glad they didn’t use the TV opening theme (Mottoke Sailor Fuku?) because I’ve grown really tired of it. I’ve enjoyed Lucky Channel even more too, as the whole omake is made in live-action, which features the seiyuu of Akira as Akira, and the man Minoru Shiraishi himself. Minoru is particularly hilarious on screen.

In short, I would give it ten for entertainment, but it’s not like it’s something that will create a lasting impression, so I’ll give it a value of 9.

A 40 min OVA for those who can't get enough of Konata’s eccentricities as well as the quirky gags of the rest of the Lucky Star cast. The few short stories were as good as those of the series. Two stories that stuck in my mind were the mass gaming scene and the Kagami-Cinderella scene: those two stories were simply way too hilarious and were pitched in with gratuitous amount of references, punch lines and the likes of it.

Unsurprisingly, the animation quality was higher in the OVA, notably in the RPG scene. Other than that, art style was pretty much the same as that of the series. They used back the same BGMs as well, though the OVA did not have an OP (so no Motteke Sailor Fuku dance routine, sadly). In addition, they even had a live-action version of Lucky Channel (meaning Akira is not a loli in this OVA). Either way, I still don’t like Lucky Channel, so similar to the series, this OVA doesn’t get a full 10/10 because of that annoying Akira. Though for the case of this OVA, it was also because I disliked the last story, which I felt that it had kind of gone overboard with the Zetsubou Sensei reference, resulting in it loosing the Lucky Star style– the last story just didn’t feel like Lucky Star anymore.

So on the overall, is it worth the watch? Well, definitely a yes if you are a die-hard Lucky Star fan. However, for those who are new to Lucky Star, I personally recommend watching the series first, because I found that much of the OVA’s hilarity comes from having already known the personalities of the characters.

If you loved Lucky Star, you'll love this OVA. If you hated Lucky Star, this OVA won't bring anything new to the table for you.

Animation: The animation is bright and crisp as it always is. The animation during the RPG screenshots was different and fun, as well. 8/10.

Story: Much like the TV show, there is not plot. However, the OVA is actually a bit more organized than the TV series by separating the various random story lines. I especially enjoyed when they were playing video games together as well as the 'Cinderella' knock-off. 9/10

Characters: Konata is at her otaku best and is hilarious, especially in the 'Kagami as Cinderella' plot. Tsukasa is allowed to shine a bit more and is adorable in the volleyball story. Also, even if you found the Lucky Channel tedious in the series, the 'live Lucky Channel' at the end is very funny. 9/10

Music: The music actually could have been better. It wasn't bad by any means, but the opening was actually kind of boring by Lucky Star standards, and the closing simply consisted of the 'Lucky Channel' theme music. 6/10

Overall: Being a fan of Lucky Star, I found this OVA very enjoyable. If you were going to introduce someone to Lucky Star for the very first time, the OVA may actually be a more interesting way to do it. However, I wouldn't recommend it for a first-time anime, or anyone who isn't really an anime fan to begin with.
