Ga-rei Zero is enjoyable, but probably not as enjoyable if you didn’t read the original Ga-rei manga (I started reading it halfway through watching the anime). Ga-rei Zero is about the events that happened before the story of the manga, mainly about the relationship between Kagura and Yomi, a key character in the manga but little is revealed about her origins. Since the whole series is effectively only about a couple of chapters in the manga, don’t expect the story to be very rich, or expect to really enjoy it if you don’t care about the manga. (After all, I think the manga is only fairly good)
There isn’t much else to say about this series because besides actions scenes, most of the screen time is focused on the relationship development between Kagura and Yomi. It’s nice and progressive that the lack of real content doesn’t make it feel like a drag, although the development isn’t very original either. The action scenes are worth it though, because they can get pretty damn creative, from using motorbikes to wheelchairs. Of course, the main characters wield the cooler swords and summon beasts.
The series might actually be a flop if the animation quality isn’t kept high all the way. The opening the ending themes doesn’t really appeal to me too… I ended up skipping most of them. Ga-rei Zero ‘s weakness is the lack of a lively storyline and could have used a more juicy story style… seeing how they’re using two pretty high-school girls as main characters. Ga-rei Zero isn’t bad, but it could have been more.
Plot/Concept: Good
Story Style: Good
Audio/Visual: Very Good
Value: 7

The first two episodes makes you say "What the hell is going on?" since there are guns blazing. Then later the series jumps into the past to answer some questions, which is a great idea. There were some slow points, but it seemed necessary for some sort of 'character build' between the two main heroines.
Story:
I believe the story revolves around exterminating spirits and re-occurrence of a 'mysterious evil boy' that shows up like the Boogy Man. Problem is, I couldn't grasp the actual plot because there really wasn't one. The story revolves around Yomi and Kagura, shows how they live their lives as exorcists. And as for the mysterious evil boy which seems like the villain (nevermind the non-reaching of the plot), well, they never get to that point. Guess there might be a sequel.
Character:
Interesting developments between the two female characters Yomi and Kagura. It's interesting to see how they react to inheriting the family business, which is exorcism. At times Kagura can get irritating due to emotional reactions, which I couldn't sympathize with because it seemed like it was delivered wrong.
Music:
A very good score - I'll give them that. The music made the fight scenes feel more epic. The opening and ending songs were also enjoyable. There were other times were music was used for the wrong scenes which made me think "Power Ranger" moment.
Graphics:
Top-notch. Not much to say.
Overall:
The series was interesting enough to make me finish it, but when you start, be constant. I can see people falling out of the series if they take a break from it. Certain parts of the series just didn't make sense. There isn't enough explanation to what the hell was going on because I'm hung up on the mysterious evil boy's story, which is practically non-existent.
It had new ideas for combat which I haven't seen, like interesting ideas that were brought up with possessing sacred beasts and using an Iron looking thing as a weapon. I shrugged and said, "Hey, that's cool."
Would have been better if the story was a bit more polished. I believe that I stressed that enough.

A good anime. If you like animes that have stories in their past, this one is for you.
Story
It has a great plot. I am not a fan of exorcists but I really like it because of the monster's inherited by the characters. The story of the characters’ past was very tragic. It has also a good and satisfying ending.
Animation
It has very great animation and this is the asset of this series. Fighting scenes are really unique because of their weapons. The only thing I don’t like are last parts of the series, I think the second to last episode has low quality. Their faces are distorted and their movements are not precise. But as a whole, good animation.
Characters
I really love all the characters here, especially the girls. Kagura and Yomi deserve to be normal sisters.
Music
I really like its ending song. Background music were also good that adds more action to the scene.
Overall
It was good. Even it doesn't leave you a great impact after watching it, it is still enjoyable.
