To start off...I understand that this anime isn't for everyone, but after watching a seemingly unending procession of lackluster (or rather unoriginal) anime, this show was like a breath of fresh air. Imagine how suprised I was when I could listen to about 20 minutes of non-stop dialogue and not get bored. Simply genius...
Animation - 10
The animation in this series is superb...one of its strongest qualities. The point of view in the show changes frequently and the animation team used a wide variety of color tones. Generally some animes are potrayed in dark tones, such as "Berserk" and "Gantz", while other in shown in light tones, "Eureka 7" and "Summer Wars". This anime focuses on neither or rather both. At times the animation is bright and serene, but that quickly changes whenever an ominous and foreboding setting is needed.
Story - 7
There isn't much of a set story. The anime is actually a series of smaller 2-3 episode arcs with Senjogahara and Araragi appearing as the main characters. In each arc Araragi is introduced to a new girl who needs his help in removing a demon inside of her. While the plot and stories in this series aren't the best, the conversations and word play between characters is amazing.
Characters - 9
This is what ultimately makes this series so great, the characters, namely Araragi and Senjogahara are so interesting. It's not just their actions that have the viewers captivated, but also their conversations. There is the timid Araragi, who is partially a ******** and the seemingly perfect Senjogahara, who actually has a rather sadistic streak. Together these two drive the series along and the characters that are introduced in each arc aren't filler characters either. They each are facsinatingly complex and reappear throughout the show.
Music/Sound - 7
The music was OK, nothing great and memorable....though it is interesting to watch the opening of the show, since the opening song and animation randomly changes throughout the series.
Summary
This show is really great and I believe under appreciated. Some viewers may find it too wordy or it may not have enough action, but I think its great the way it is. The anime is actually based off of a series of short novels and I think that the team, SHAFT, did a great job in recreating the intense dialogue and wordply found in the novel. So, if you are looking for something different or are just bored of the overused themes in most of the anime these days, give this series a try.
Enjoyment - 10
Overall - 9

This show is just plain weird. There are some rather interesting concepts and then there are the monologue type dialogs that have the characters saying lots of things in a weird way almost like I am listening to a research paper in dialog form.
The animation is a disjointed combination of animation computer animation and realism that seems to serve the purpose of making the show purposely confusing.
The music is fine but not all that impressive.
The characters are actually really good and interesting until you have to sit through their conversations.
Overall: A interesting show that I skimmed through because of so many irritating and confusing dialogs and animations. I might go back and re-watch some of the parts but never the whole show.

Before you decide whether or not to watch this series you should know that if you don't speak Japanese there is stuff in this anime that you will miss. What I mean by that is from what I have heard and read about this, there is a lot of wordplay in this series, and if you don't speak Japanese you most likely won't get any of it (I didn't). Do not, however, let this detail turn you off of what I believe is a spectacular series.
At first, at least to me, the story seemed disjointed, and it wasn't until about episode four that I began understanding what was going on (it could have just been bad fansubs). Once I started understanding the story, I found myself completely entranced by this series. The supernatural nature of this series combined with the uniqueness of each episode kept me sucked in throughout this series' run. Once the first season had ended, though, I realized that the episodes hadn't been connected by much more than a supernatural theme and the same characters being in each one. I will admit, however, that this freedom enabled Shaft to make each episode special in its own way, and keep me on my toes for the next episode.
Although some aspects of the presentation disconcerted me at first, such as the shots that had nothing on them except words flashing in and out sporadically (watch an episode and you'll know what I mean), I quickly became used to and even began enjoying some of these aspects. For example, I really enjoyed the way the dialogue randomly switched between the actual speech between the characters and the thoughts of the Araragi, because it kept me wondering what was actually happening. In addition to all that, I also thought that both the music and the opening and closing animations were beautiful, and I thought that they fit perfectly with the overall themes of the series.
The characters are both interesting and surprisingly deep. They act like I would expect anyone in their situation with their experiences to act (given, they are dealing with supernatural stuff, but still) and even though they don't break down into tears every five minutes, you can usually tell what a certain character is feeling just by watching how they act or listening to how they talk. A lot of that I picked up when watching an episode over again or mulling over what I had just watched. I thought that the voice actors all fit their characters personalities, and that they did a good job of conveying their emotions. The animation is done well, and I enjoyed the way the characters were drawn. The backgrounds are also fairly detailed. The animators will, however, sometimes take an animated object in a still shot and replace it with an actual object, which I found novel.
Bakemonogatari is a wonderful anime that I would personally recommend to anyone, and especially to fans of shows that deal with the paranormal. I am rooting for a second season of this and will follow this series wherever it goes.

I'm not sure how I feel about Bakemonogatari to be honest. It is an extremely clever and witty, dialogue driven action/drama. It kept me thoroughly entertained through its single season, but I feel like it could have been better. Especially the ending.
Animation and music quality are impeccable, some of the most visually stunning scenes I have ever seen came from this show. The harsh transitions into paper-cut style works extremely well with the feel of the dialogue too. The main problems I have with this show lie in two integral places that prevent me from ranking it where I feel it could be, which is a 9-10. The first problem in my eyes is the main character, Araragi. He is EXTREMELY generic, and while it does serve as a good contrast to Senjyougahara's (and the other crazy females around him) unpredictable antics, it bothers me that the main character is the most forgettable. He rarely actually DOES anything other than take people to Oshino. Second is the way it ended. I won't give any direct spoilers, but that was not a satisfying ending to the season. Don't get me wrong, the last episode was great, heartwarmingly amazing even, but it came out of nowhere and didn't conclude anything.
I really hope there is a second season, I think they could validate the problems I pointed out through more storytelling. I also am finding myself wanting more of Senjyougahara's witty banter and frustrating antics. In conclusion, this show is a great time killer, and has some memorable moments, but really needs to be completed through some kind of followup. It's not a show that will appeal to most viewers but it is a good watch.
Animation - 10, incredible cinematic shots makes dialogue thoroughly entertaining.
Sound - 7, OP changes often but none of them really stood out to me.
Characters - 6(Araragi), 10 (Everyone else)
Story - 7, Jumps around in isolated segments, not really a true direction/plot.
Overall - 7, A great show but problematic in key areas.
