YAHHO!
Kanamemo was certainly the more fun anime of 2009. It gives you a very serious story to start off with, but everything after the first few minutes is an adventure in a ball-pit. Each character is colourful and zany. The animators do not hesitate to incorporate chibi-scenes. The staple of this anime is pretty much the "fun" of it all.
The story revolves around Kana starting a new life as a newspaper delivery girl and cook of a household. How many anime series go into this lifestyle - newspaper delivery? Anyway, the household is occupied by five other girls with varying personalities. Yume is full of energy and has a romantic attachment to Yuki, whom is quiet. Saki is the strict manager with an authoritative personality. Hinata... I forget. Finally, Haruka is a loli-pervert, haha xD
No issues with any of the characters. All had their own personality that was quite memorable. There was only one character that didn't stand out at all, which was Hinata. My favourite character was Haruka - for obvious reasons. She was the comic-relief character and does not shadow any other character I know (so far).
The Smile episode was quite cumbersome, but my favourite thing about this anime is Kana's well-practised "smile"! Hah. You'd just have to see it for yourself. The episode events did not seem to have a certain direction. The theme was more of "this is life". It was handling everyday things and how to overcome them, but think of that more in an "adventurous" way.
Even when the anime did not have a solid blueprint, I found that they ended it relatively well. I was quite satisfied with the character development. Nothing was really "resolved", but somehow, it felt conclusive. Kanamemo was a fun anime. Little complaints about it.
