Overall: 8.5
Ages: All Ages
Animation: 9
Characters: 10
Storyline: 8
Progression: 7
Scale is 1-10. 1 being the worst and 10 the best.
Animation: One of the best drawn animes I have ever watched. Even with the weird, eccentric, and astounding displays of physical abilities, it was very clear that these were human beings. I especially liked how they manipulated the faces to express their emotions beyond just plain volume control and enunciation.
Characters: The strongest point of this anime is the extreme level of depth and detail that was put into each and every character. The Seigaku tennis club members are all lovable and each have their own special unique personalities. I absolutely fell in love with the bonds of friendship between them all and how perfectly it was shown in the anime.
Storyline: The story is a simple desire to go to the National Tournament but the show does a good job of mixing in not only competitions and training but also has several episodes about the daily life of the team members. (In addition for people who don't like filler episodes it is very easy to ascertain which episodes are filler and which are not)
Progression: To me the weakest point of Prince of Tennis is that it starts out strong and exciting but as the story gets longer and longer it felt like it started to rush. I became fully aware of it after the Kantou Tournament Arc and was very disappointed at the ending: it was just too quick, too "easy."

This is a pretty good anime to watch even for those who don't like tennis. Its entertaining and its fun to watch heck I didn't like tennis until I saw this. The story is pretty solid although I was expecting some sort of superhuman turn around later in the show; but it didn't it keep it real and thats what makes it so good. Story: 8/10
The character's don't get built up right away even the main character doesn't quite get explained other that he is some tennis prodigy that was big in the U.S. And there are a decent amount of characters and each one gets their moment to shine on the court. Characters: 8/10
Animation is nothing out of the ordinary but it is solid and the effects are great when the tennis matches get serious. Animation: 8/10
Music in the show is like those beat the clock or get serious music that fits the sports oriented atmosphere very well. Music: 8/10

I do love the prince of tennis. The tennis is good. I visualize the players as samurai swordsman when on the court. It's really easy to go with the flow.
The music is melodius in it's own special way. The style successfully alters completely from one form to another. I'm also glad there were no words. Nothing ruins a sports anime then songs with words. Co-rny.
The character artwork (not artwork but best I can come up with) is something I can live without. The snakeshot guy; 6ft 250 pound lean mean tennis machine is in 8th grade. 8th grade of what- college? Also, at times you'll notice the unibrow kid doesn't have a unibrow. I love how successful the 3-D aspect of the anime is, I get kind of sick of the jumping in slow motion. Works for beach girls, not tennis guys.
The dialogue isn't all that it should be. If I here "15 love" or "game to echizen" one more dam time... The main downside to this anime is that it doesn't even try to explain rules or terms. Usually there'd be some person on the first episode that doesn't know anything and keeps asking somebody that does, and the person would answer during the game but that doesn't happen.
This anime doesn't have a plot, and that's not a bad thing though each episode I just see tennis, but I want tennis, not a story.
I like how I'm able to understand most of the strategies they use. They don't spend a ton of time explaining how it's possible but digest the information into a short sentence. I hate how some anime explain the physics of everything and make me feel slow for not understanding.
Overall, this anime keeps the corny and harem level down to a minimum. Only the same slow motion jumps and adult conversations are corny. The harem level is kept down to a fan club.
This anime doesn't have many plus sides so why am I giving this an 8? I don't know but I did like it. The prince of Tennis is a great anime to watch when getting tired of the others. It also gets me into the tennis fever. I love the music, I love the lack of dumb drama you'd find in some other sports anime. And I love understanding what's going on. Also, Ryoma is the hockey version of myself. I guess it just doesn't have many down sides.

Prince of Tennis was sure a long ride, and I enjoyed it even though some roads were bumpy and some scenery was annoying. This anime gives you so much and matches your expectations. There are catchy songs, smooth animation, and superb voice acting. The character design is attractive too. And you can't forget the sheer motivation to play tennis once you watch this. I've heard of many people starting up on tennis, JUST from watching this anime.
However, there are too many characters. Holy freaking crap. SO many characters. I'm not even going to begin counting. Not only are there at least 8 people or more in the 5+ possible school, but there are outside characters such as the news reporters, coaches, siblings... oh man. The good thing though, was that they managed to set a defining characteristic, physical and personal, to each character making them distinguished. However, some things turned out cliche. With just one key point, you can identify that character immediately. It's sort of like Kenshin's scar (from Rurouni Kenshin)
This series is like Dragonball... with tennis rackets. Instead of "Ka-may-ha-may-has" you have Super Great Momo Smash! or Tezuka Zooonnnneee. Are those moves even physically possible? During the matches you find yourself looking at beams of light, and smoking tennis balls. Things are really exaggerated in this anime. But I shamefully admit, this is what makes things interesting. The movements are realistic, it boggles the mind to see how much background work was done just for the tennis matches. As for the music, you'll have rocking heavy based beats, or awkward jazzy background music leading the way. While the eight (yes EIGHT!) OP and ED songs are fun and catchy, they're just not that 'great'. They're typically shounen. The background music is what excels. The background music is almost Prince of Tennis' best area. The OST is memorable.
In terms of art, at some points it died down, but it didn't show in the male tennis players. It was evident in the audience background and in the character design of girls. About the characters, why are they in middle school?! They look OLD! And there seems to be a significant difference between a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old. Look at Echizen (and the other 1st years) and then look at Momoshiro and Kaidou (Snake) ... what happened here?
The story wasn't all over the place, and there was a share of fillers (while most people hate the fillers, I looked forward to them and found them extremely hilarious!). Things were pretty linear. Details in the matches seemed to decline more and more as the series went on. I didn't expect much of an ending. Most of my experience with long-running anime doesn't conclude to something nice. But, they did very well here in Prince of Tennis. In this series you'll laugh, you probably won't cry, and it's full of excitement. It's hard to recommend a series that's purely based on Tennis. But I enjoyed this anime and it is definitely in my favourites.

Prince of Tennis is the best! I start watching prince of tennis 4 months ago. I can see it in the anime store all the time, at first I thought its going to be something crappy; i mean a TV show all about Tennis. But wow, it was so good. after i watch it the 1st time I just have to watch it again and keep some copy for myself. So I get to watch it every now and then, whenever I feel like watching it. I like all the characters, i like Kaido a lot, his character is so cute, in a funny way. Especially in the tenipuri version, lol there so cute.
I'd hope one time they'll make an episode were tezuka smile's.
I cant wait to see the National Tournament. I've seen one and I just want to see more. its so cool and ryoma is just getting better and better.
after watching Prince of tennis, i was inspired to play tennis. i guess i wouldnt be as good as they are. but its still cool to know how to hit the ball inside the court :)

This anime has to be one of the best anime I've ever seen. At first I thought, "okay, this anime looks kinda weird" but when I started to watch more and more, it just got me hooked. I liked tennis at that time but never played seriously until I saw this anime.
Music: The music definetly rocks. It's really cool how the music goes with the scene. especially all the funny scenes
Characters: The characters are amazing. It's kinda weird how each of them have their own special moves but, it's cool watching them play and do their moves. Like Ryoma; when he does the twist serve and drive B. It's pretty cool.
Overall, I would give this anime a 10/10 score.

TWIST SERVE!
That is what to expect when watching this anime. So you're probably thinking, "How the hell can an anime about Tennis be so great?" Well I'm About to tell you.
Plot
Ryoma Echizen has transferred to Seishun Academy. He then joins the tennis team. But for him first years are only allowed to practice swinging and pick up balls. Luckily for Ryoma he is no average first-grader. He has just returned from America after winning 4 consecutive U.S. Junior titles. He is able prove himself worthy of becoming a starter whom represents the Academy at tournaments. This is where the fun starts as Echizen and Co. face of against fellow teams and their strong players.
Animation
The animation is nicely done. Everything flows together. The character designs are exactly as their manga counterparts. The detail that goes around them is there. Also the Tennis matches themselves are animated well. The "special" moves that the players execute are great.
Music
The Opening themes are brilliant. They give a good vibe that the episode is going to be full pact with action. The ending themes nicely calm you down after the explosive action. The BGM is kind of repeative at times especially the music that plays during the games. But as there is so much going on you don't really care
Final Word
The only complaint I have about this series is Ryoma appears to be undefeatable. He only losses 3 times over the 178 episodes and none of those were in official matches. You get the feeling that you already know how this match is going to end before you watch it.
But none the less this series is still fun to watch and you are force to think how Seieshu will get out of this match with a win.
So who will like this anime? Well anyone who read the manga will. Unfortunately after a while the anime goes in it's own direction rather than follow the manga 100%. Anyone who like Tennis or Sport animes will enjoy this as well. Actually anyone who really wants to be entertain for 30 minutes will enjoy this series.
before long you will be addicted just like me. If you want more Prince of Tennis fix search out the manga which should be available in your local bookshops.

Twist shot!~ Prince of Tennis is such an amazing series. I loved it even though I didn't like tennis personally at the time. Yet as I began to watch the series, it made me want to go out and play. The series had a lot of fillers and was a bit unrealistic, but the characters had such warmth and kindess, it drew the viewer in. This series contains little to no romance but was jampacked with action and humour. The voice actors were amazing, it fit the story and the personality so well. All the catchy music was great and befitting (yay for karaoke!). The ending was a downer though. The ending seemed a bit off and it was hard to imagine the whole series set for a year in the story. The artwork wasn't beautiful but good anyways. The characters did not look alike or repetitive. The plot was sometimes repetitive but still good. There was a lot of emotion put into this series. I really recommend watching this series! So good! MADA DANE!

This series started out great, got very very dull.
Characters are well drawn, and presented, but i do think that they make them almost too good. It wouldn't hurt to see them lose once in a while, like the whole team. They basically rigged almost all of the characters, especially ryoma.
Music, it was good, both themes, and the music during the matches were also good.
story. It is way too drawn out, but if u think about it, tennis doesn't really end, but it would be good if they made the year go by just a tad bit quicker than it already is. I also don't like the fillers, they were pretty much pointless.
Overall. This is a pretty dissapointing series, but it was good while it lasted. They just made everyone too good, not enough losses, especially ryoma, if they did a better job of making everything more realistic, it would of been better.
People who would enjoy playing tennis would like this, and this may even attract other people who play a diffrent sport, but be warned that this series does have its entertainment value.

Catchy is the best way I can describe this anime. I had the fortune of watching it all in a row in a single week, so I am a bit more biased to it but there are some problems with the anime and some great things in it. Details.
Art/Animation: 8/10. Not exactly the top notch art and there is very little chance to be. On the other hand all the characters are distinctly drawn but some of the opponents can look similar. Obviously a lot of flash/cut scenes. At least there is very little fanservice, thankfully.
Music/Sound: 7/10. There is nothing special here. OP and ED changed often but none clung. Intraepisode music nothing special, not even average. But I never judge an anime by its music unless the music is good.
Story: 8/10. Probably the biggest bonus of this anime is the story. Still it was riddled with fillers and that ticked me off. Despite the fillers, many of the games were rather exciting. Unfortunately, the story didn't evolve to something unexpected, it was typically finished. I enjoyed it anyway. The comedy was very good as well. Some reference to real life players made some things amusing.
Characters: 9/10. Excellent Excellent characters. All had their own unique personalities. Well drawn, well placed. Unfortunately, as usual you still get some typical typical characters like the peers of the main character, or the girl who is in love with him but too shy to say a thing. Otherwise the rest are pretty good.
Good to watch once, but otherwise I wouldn't watch it again or buy it. It just wasn't that unique of a sport anime.

I personally play tennis myself and let me tell you something: "Prince of Tennis is SUPER." As in the shots that they make are not humanly possible to do in real life. I mean to make a ball go around the pole, hit the ball so that it wouldn't bounce back, make the ball curve, slide and then hit it making a B shape, and hit the ball in a precise spot is beyond a human beings capability. Even professional tennis players don't have the precise accuracy and control as the players in the anime. Although they give explanations how the shots are made using physics it's still very far-fetched (but what the heck? Do I know anything about Physics?).
Although the tennis matches are utterly unrealistic, it's a good anime. All characters have a very distinct personality and develops as ther series goes on. You can see how their friendship becomes stronger as time goes by and also some test and hardships they have to go through. The anime seems to be in a repetitive cycle also. The teams goes to a major match and then some filler episodes which usually involves their training and Inu's special juice, and a match again. But still it's interesting. It has a little bit of everything: some romance, comedy, tennnis actions etc. So if you like sports anime Prince of Tennis is definatley one of the must watch ones.

Prince of Tennis (which shall be referred to as PoT from now on) is about Ryoma Echizen, and his school Seigaku's exploits in the interschool tennis tournaments. 178 episodes, make no mistake about it, and its very length is one of the reasons NOT to watch it. Let me explain..
Anime about sports and games usually start out very promisingly - introducing characters, cool special moves, opponents and so on. We learn about the protagonist's motivations, struggles, and as the anime goes on, his wins and losses. We eventually feel for the character, sharing his joy in victory, and agony in defeat. PoT starts out very promisingly too, as it introduces new characters and their moves, but it becomes very repetitive and predictable too soon.
Unfortunately, Ryoma Echizen, the protagonist is extremely dislikeable. He is a short boy (150+) with the biggest bug eyes ever. His arrogance is amazing; throughout all the episodes he smirks at his opponents, and says the same stupid quote to lesser opponents: "mada mada dane", which means "not quite enough". He gets under the skin of his opponents with his arrogant comments, and unfortunately noone can reply, because noone is good enough to beat him at tennis. Trash talking aside..
The creator has made an effort to make the teams and various characters unique and interesting; whether it is the serpentine Kaidoh, the passionate Momo, the androgynous Fuji, the steely Tezuka. Fuji Syuusuke, is my favourite character, for being like the deep sea, calm and inviting on the outside, but beneath lurks great strength, not to be trifled with. Some characters border on the annoying, like the girls who like Ryoma, and some are downright irritating. Watch and you will find out.
Some matches drag on too long. Anime, not just the sports kind, sometimes make that mistake, dragging matches and fights over many episodes. Fair enough. Then there are the fillers, where the characters are drawn as cute kiddish caricatures (even cuter and kiddier than they already are). These fillers are simply a waste of time. But 178 episodes of dragged out matches and stupid fillers? And why drag them out if the outcome is certain?! Which brings me to my next point.
The worst thing is, there is no plot, no conflict, no sense of struggle at all. Ryoma Echizen is not the Prince of Tennis, he is the GOD of tennis. He will rampage through his opponents, he will never lose a real tournament. What is the point of the show?? He wins EVERY single opponent in real tournament (he loses 2 or 3 practice matches). His supposed "rivals" occasionally beat him in a friendly, then they will say "GET STRONGER AND BEAT ME RYOMA". Then he will duly beat them in the real match, period. Whenever he's in a sticky situation, he will just..smirk, turn up his engine a notch, and suddenly become too good for the opponent. 178 episodes of linear plot, or rather plotlessness.
It's not all bad, of course. Some of the characters are really awesome. Not Ryoma, of course. Fuji and Tezuka are awesomely cool characters, like seriously. Episodes 174 -176, the Fuzi - Tezuka match, is the highlight of the show. Too bad I had to endure 173 episodes before that. This anime, which is not very good to begin with, drags on for 178 episodes - this time I could have better spent playing real tennis!! On hindsight I feel so cheesed off with myself for wasting so much time on this anime. Right now it's raining outside my house when I'm supposed to be playing tennis, so here I am writing this review. Ironic that even though I've finished watching the show it still continues to waste my time and bug me. I created an account JUST to blast this anime. Save your time, don't watch this anime. And don't, DON'T even think about buying it.

To tell you the truth, I'm never interested with sports such as tennis.
But just by glimpsing this particular sport anime, my heart jumped out of its place. It's terrific!! As the series grew, my love for it grew stronger by the minute and before I knew it, I've been too engaged with this manga that I can't put it down. However not only that, the anime itself, is way better. Since it's action, you can see clearly the routes of how the tennis ball travels through the air.
Out there, there must be tons who are looking for a great lively anime. Looking too hard won't help find anything because there's one right here. Oh my, the Seigaku team are such a hotties, kya! kya! ^_^. Especially that cool kid in 7th grade. Got to check him out, he's my favourite.
The Seigaku team are a highly intelligent bunch, they're not only tennis pros, but they're also great at everything else, such as basketball, ping pong, etc. Even, ehm...ballet.
The techniques, of course, improves as the series goes, because stronger opponets means stonger chances of winning. But by all, I like volume 33, 41-45 a lot in the anime, don't ask me why, you have to witness it for yourselves, you'll get a laugh out of it and if you've never laughed in your life, all the more to watch it.

This is my first experience with a sports anime and overall was a good series.
It's about a genius boy, tennis player (don't we all at one point or another in our life wished we were just a naturally elite at something) who overcomes obstacles to improve over and over. If you like that kind of stuff, then this is the show meant for you. The only complaint is that the "moves" they made up in the story turn redundant and monotonous after several episodes. They even use it to play basketball, pingpong, and other sports! Give me a break!

Prince of Tennis.
A sports anime about tennis. A highly addictive anime that will give you a bunch of laughter, you'll just hear yourself laughing, and cheering for the team that you are rooting for, which probably is Seigaku (short for Seishun Gakuen)
I have watched this and also read the manga, and both are a must watch and must read. They follow the same storyline in the beginning but turns on opposite ways by the time they are in the Regional Tournament.
The manga is full of battle and excellent evolution of characters, while the anime stays true to each episodes. The main difference? The anime is wackier and funnier than the manga, and the manga is nevertheless for exciting in my opinion.
Also, it never fails to amuse me, that with each character in the anime, everyone seems to be lovable in their strange sort of way.
The op/ending songs also change after an average of 25 episodes (I think), but some are good enough to love and sing to.
