This is one of my favorite anime shows of all time because it has a strong story and is full of action. It has a strong, classic story, the weak oppressed workers working for the strong elites, and a few special people with powers working on both sides of the conflict.
The main character Kazuma is a lot like Ichigo from Bleach, as in both have a strong sense of justice, but start off has reckless idiots with no true goal in mind. Kazuma fights and works to survive, and though he seems arrogant, he truly does his best to protect his friends and accomplish anything he sets his mind on. Ryuho is on the opposite side of the conflict and though he fights to protect his friends, he is fighting on the side of HOLD, the oppressive government power. Ryuho at first comes off as cold and merciless, but after meeting Kazuma he slowly starts to change.
The animation is not the most unique, but when the characters use their powers known as altars, the overall animation and effects seem to skyrocket. The opening theme "Reckless Fire" is one of the best songs to get stuck in your head, and the ending theme goes well with the end of the episodes when the action starts to calm a bit down, but overall I preferred the strong opening for an action anime.
Overall, Scryed is a great show to watch and is one of the shows you want to be able to say that you watched. It is full of great characters, it has a strong, solid story, and gratuitous amounts of action scenes that people who watch action animes expect to find in a show. My final score- 8/10.

Scryed is a weird named anime but cool none the less. It is a great anime for the action lovers. The show get a pefect 10. The story line is great for those who like both sides of the story to be told to them from different perspectives.
The art work is very classy there are many senes that would make artist want to challenge them selves. I would give the art a 10.
The voice overs are great. Every voice matches the persons personality very well no matter how anoying.
The only problem I have with the show is the ending. It was never clear what happened to the two main characters or the support characters. The best part is that the last episode is a fight between the two main characters. It is a battle that makes you never want to leave your seat. A real gut buster. I mean they use every trick in their book.
All in all it is a great show that I give a 10. If you watch, enjoy.

Generic Loner Hero tries to save the world through the sheer force of his will and Punching, Lots of Punching.
The Plot/Story: Decades earlier a disaster ravaged the land unleashing a mystic force that has given some people Alter powers. The rulers of the mainland have plans to tame this "Lost Ground" and the rogue Alters that inhabit the area. Kazuma lives peacefully with Kanami as refugees in this lawless area until a fateful fight with the the Hold officer, Ryuhou. Handily defeated, Kazuma vows to get stronger and battle Hold and the mainland.
Music: Alright music, nothing really off puting but with that said, neither is it very engaging.
Animation: Solid animation with some interesting CG visuals. Good variation on the Altar designs, but from my perspective the character design didn't get as much attention.
Generic. Generic plot, Generic Hero, Generic Villian, Generic everything. The Government has a hidden agenda to exploit the Alter Power. The Hero wins all his fights through the sheer force of his will. Child has a hidden power. Basically the entire show revolves around Kazuma Punching everything in sight, except for Kanami.

S-CRY-ed has a fairly straightforward action-based storyline, that involves humans who have special abillities called "alter power". Rebellious types will fall in love with the hot headed Kazuma, as cool, collective types will enjoy Riohou pick his enemies apart.
The story follows Kazuma, a brash alter from the outskirts. He fights Holy, which is an all alter group that fights native alters(alters from the outskirts. During a battle against Holy, Kazuma meets Riohou, a important top ranked official in holy...just about everything Kazuma isn't. After there battle, Riohou becomes a main charcter, and the story switches off from him and Kazuma and how there constant battles affect there life, and the others around them.
The actuall battles with the Alters are wonderful yet short, and the plot may leave some viewers wanting more. All in all I give this an 8. Great action, wonderful charcters, and it even has some nice tracks(music) thrown into the mix, but when it is all said in done, it lacks the power to finish strong!

Art: (8/10) This was okay. I REALLY loved the uniforms though. The designs were excellent but the other clothes for the minor characters weren't so fun to look at. The colors were decent.
Story: (5/10) Can you say X-men rip off? This was so X-men and sometimes even like Pokemon! That's all I can say. I'm simple.
Characters: (5/10) Same as the one above. Though, I did like the girl with the big boobs. She had a nice character design. She was cute! It's weird having this come out of me since I'm a girl, too. -_- Everyone else was just so... cliche? You just want to bang your head against the desk.
Music: (7/10) Satisfactory, it didn't bother me in anyway.

When I saw the first episode of this anime, I thought I was going to it. It turns out, the first few episodes were just laying groundwork so as time moved on, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The plot of this anime is similar to that of Gundam SEED. The bad guy of this anime (forgot his name) looks just like Azrael of Gundam SEED.
I loved the animation style. It was similar to Gundam SEED, Planetes, Infinite Ryvius, and fafner. I'm willing to bet anything that the same people are behind all of those anime. I don't have proof yet but some day... Unfortunately the music makes my eardrums sore. It is nothing like the music from the others.
The confusing series of events between the lost grounds, HOLY, and the mainland was never explained clearly. The science behind Alter power was never explained at all. The producers were a tad too concerned with explaining the past instead of explaining the present.
This is a find-the-power-inside-of-you type of anime whereas the main characters, Kazuma and Ryuhou obtain more power just by wanting it enough. For the first time in a long time, the find-the-power-inside-of-you aspect was executed properly.
This is a two climax ending with no resolution. The first climax is defeating the all powerful bad guy. The second climax is the showdown between Kazuma and Ryuhou. The first climax is an overplayed, predictable chestnut. I loved the second climax because in a rival vs. rival ending is where the real suspense and drama is.
I'm just venting but I still have a need to say this. Cherise uses her alter power to give up her life in exchange for Ryuhou's. He wakes up and finds her clothes next to him. He starts crying because he knows she used her alter power for him. First of all, she obviously never used her alter power before so how would she know she has it, let alone what it does? Second of all, how did he know what she did and how did he know what she could do? She stripped down and ran off for all he knows but didn't.
I don't know why the title S-CRY-ED. I've never heard it before in the story. I must have missed something.
I give this anime a generous 8 out of 10 as a critic and two up as the audience.

Honestly, I'm not just giving this anime a bad score because it wasn't something I enjoyed personally, nor am I giving it a bad review simply to go against what everyone else gives it. This anime was just bad...seriously.
Back when Adult Swim mentioned getting this show, I was actually pretty excited. I'd heard a lot about it, and I was convinced that I would like it, so much so that I nearly forced myself to get into it despite my deepening disappointment with each consecutive episode. I shall list my complaints one section at a time so as not to rant too much.
Story: This is one area where Scryed is both the most original, as well as being one of its major downfalls. Through all 26 episodes, the plot never truely goes anywhere. The whole Alter thing is simply stupid in my opinion...but aside from that, one can sense the show just rambling on while never actually saying anything. The Holy versus mainland conflict was obviously meant to breed the same sort of emotions that the naturals versus coordinators hatred in Gundam SEED did, but it fails on all levels to do so. After throwing the characters around in pointless directions, simply to meet up and fight with eachother, the show begins to resort to killing off its own characters in what could only be described as some of the LAMEST character deaths I have ever seen in anything...even outside of anime. This was obviously just done because all "good" animes kill their characters off right? *rolls eyes* anyways, the point is, this show rambles and rambles and has no clear sense of direction in its plot.
Characters: Ahh another crucial thing that any good anime just needs to pull off in order to work. At first, I kinda liked the main characters, but as the show began to drone on and on, the motivations of each character seemed to be nothing more than an attempt at being dramatic without any logical reason for being so. Ryuhou's (spelled right?) transformation from "facist Holy drone" to "Emo-boy McRevengey-pants" comes off as completely contrived. It just wasn't believeable...
Then there's Kazuma...AKA Scryed's attempt at pulling off the classic, never giveup, devil may care, another character that we've seen in countless other animes. Does it work? No...not in the least bit. After shouting about not needing to know anything but fighting and not caring and not blah blah blah anymore for the 50 thousandth time in the last episode, his whole persona really has fallen apart and I found myself wishing he would just be killed or something...again, he just wasn't a believeable character.
Next up, Kanami...she only served to creep me out. I'm sorry. For one thing, the whole "I was dreaming" thing was just so corny and unneccesary it made me want to vomit, that is, until she started yelling Kazu-kun over and over and over again and then I just wanted to kill her myself. And what exaclty IS her relationship with Kazuma...I don't mean to offend any Loli fans we may have here, but I found it just a tad disturbing.
Ok...now we'll go to Xeres (spelled that way I think...) and Mimori...or as I like to call them, annoying Ryohou fangirls. Mimori was obviously supposed to come off as the Lackus Kline of Scryed, but it just didn't work. Her antiwar sentiments ring completely hollow, and she never ends up doing ANYTHING in the entire series but follow behind the main characters and talk about stuff. I use the word stuff mosly because there's no better word for it...she just opened her mouth, and unbelievable gibberish came out. As for xeres, again, just another fangirl, except we're supposed to feel bad for her when she finally kicks the bucket. Didn't work...trust me...
As for the other characters, they all follow some sort of cliche or another, such as Kyogi Mujo's "burning hunger inside" motive for taking over the world...gimme a break. And then the other Holy members...borrring. What was with some of their powers anyways? That script writing guy? Lame. The scarf wearing flamer with the Voltron ripoff as an Alter power(called "super-pinch and used for some of the dumbest puns I've heard since kindergarten). Puhhhleease. And then Cougar saying Mimori's name wrong? Wasn't funny the first 30 times guys...sorry.
Visuals: This is one area where the show actualy could be given some points. Altogether, it was a decent looking show, and you can tell it was done by the same studio as Gundam SEED, especially since many of the uniforms and characters have looks similar to that show. Hold on folks, it only gets worse form here...
DIALOGUE: Ahhh my biggest complaint with Scryed. Never, and I do mean NEVER, not even in Pokemon O_O, have I heard such vomit inducing, corny dialogue as in Scryed. Let me give some examples. How 'bout the guy who shouted about his "treasure balls" (another terrible Alter Power...) all the time? Uhhh...did the directors like, not have any sort of sense of innuendo or did they intend for that to be so hilareously dirty sounding? Ok...so maybe I'll add some enjoyment points for that...
Next, the drama was some of the worst I've ever seen. Each time a character opened their mouths to say something meaningful, it came out comepletely meaningless and you know you've heard it said far more eloquently on other shows...For example, in what could possibly have been the corniest dialogue of the entire show, Xeres brings Ryohou back to life with a conveniently placed Alter Power that could somehow do that...oh, but of course it had to kill her to or it just wouldn't be any good right?*rolls eyes* And then Ryohou, after seeing only her clothes remaining on the floor, stands up and says "O God NOO_O!" as though he was awake and watching the whole time, just waiting to spew forth that line. Please explain to me how he automatically knew that's what happened to her, and that she wasn't just running around naked somehwhere...I missed that...
So in conclusion, this deinfitely makes my "Worst Animes of All Time" list...it had the dialogue of tv's worst soap operas only more awkward, the story of tv's worst soap operas only it wandered aimlessly more, the corny hamfisted writing of an 8th grade wannabe playwriter....and the overall lack of logic and reaosn that one would expect from a terrible harem anime...
Just walk away now guys...watch somehting else. I have no idea why so many people like this show O_o; I came in here to write a bad review, and expected many others to be doing the same, but I guess people just don't appreciate the good stuff like they used to. Why settle for this when there's so much better out there? Scryed is simply a mess...

Scryed was an anime that caught on quickly with me. The plot was easy to follow for the most part, and it had a lot of change throughout the series that kept the plot from going stale, like some animes tend to after a while. An example of a

I'm surprised at how long it took for Scryed to hit North America given how appealing it is to a main-stream audience. I watched it a couple of years ago when it first came out, and decided to post this review after I saw it for sale the other day at my local video store.
Solid story, yet quite standard in theme. The opressed struggling against the opressors while the big question of "who is right" hangs over everyone's head.
The main character, Kazuma, is your typical underdog-with-an-attitude type who enjoys beating the odds, and we see this a lot in shounen anime. Think Ichigo from Bleach.
Anyway, the animation is not the greatest, but it's pretty good and tends to shine more during the fight scenes. The opening theme "Reckless Fire" is annoyingly catchy, and it's been a while since I watched the series, but I'm pretty sure I didn't like the end theme, which really doesn't impact my feelings about the show anyway.
Overall, Scryed is very satisfying to watch. Packed with great characters, solid story and a generous helping of action that would satisfy those shounen anime lovers who are looking for something twitchy and colorful. Final score- 8/10.

I can't believe I'm rating a shounen anime with a perfect 10 out of 10 but no matter how hard I try not to, I have to admit Scryed is nigh on perfect!
Animation: Wonderful animation! Bright but not overly vivid colours, everything is pleasing to the eye. The character and Alter designs are top notch and very imaginative, at times very beautiful ( Scheris and Ayase especially ). Backgrounds and buildings are well constructed and very believable but best of all are the fight scenes. They are so well done, the points of impact were very realistic and I have never seen such great metaphorphosis, especially with Kazuma and Ryuho, their final stages were amazing!
Sound: The opening and ending themes are brilliant! I especially love the strange use of English words in the songs ( you can't beat "I believe in drastic my soul", I so wish I knew what that meant! ). The voice acting was superb! My favourite seiyuu, Hikaru Midorikawa was the voice of Ryuho and it fitted him perfectly. The other seiyuus complemented each character well and I will be forever in awe of Soichiro Hoshi, the seiyuu for Kazuma. He must have had the world's worst sore throat, as I haven't seen a character get that crazed since DBZ!!
Story: Fantastic! I've seen a lot of anime in the past 12 1/2 years and a lot of shounen fighting anime but this has to be one of the most original stories I have ever seen. The Alter users were fascinating, they came in all shapes and sizes, as did their Alters ( the strangest was a vending machine looking Alter! ). From the onset, you have a firm idea of who are the bad guys and who are the good guys but in the style of a good anime, this could change!
I was drawn into the story from the very beginnning and at no point did the story lose its way or become boring. There were no filler episodes either, just pure plot, action and pretty good in-depth character profiling. It's basically a tale of humans not being able to accept something/someone who is different, their fear of the unknown, prejudice and power hunger egotists!! To top it all off, it has a wonderful ending. It left only 1 question unanswered but I believe this could be an opening for a possible 2nd series.
Character: This anime is filled to the brim with interesting and wonderful characters! Kazuma is hot headed, the kind who fights first and asks questions later, yet under all the bravado, he is also someone who cares deeply for his friends and for what he believes in.
Ryuho appears to be a very cold and emotionless but he is fighting for something he believes in, a quest to find answers.
Then there's Scheris, Mimori, Tachibana, Cougar, Kanami, Ayase and a host of other wonderful characters who add life to this show, they are what turns it from being just another beat 'em up tale, into an engaging tale of survival against the odds, the power of friendship and belief, and what humans can achieve to overcome hardships.
Enjoyment: I enjoyed 100% of this anime, there is nothing I can find fault with and believe me I tried! I coudn't believe an anime of this genre could be this perfect ( I'm a shoujo fan first! ). The animation, the characters, the music, the wonderful storyline, the fight scenes, even the bad guys were all done to perfection. I will happily watch this again in the future and maybe I will be able to find fault in something but I doubt it!

First things first - this is a shounen show, of the fight variety. Every episode will involve violent conflict - so if this isn't for you, don't bother.
This show also has plot, a near-total lack of filler (episodes that may appear filler-like in the first few do become significant later) and well-crafted characterization. Everyone has their own goals and motivations, and although the main antagonist and protagonist are on opposite sides, neither is altogether good or bad. (This is very rare for the genre, and was mostly lacking in the manga.)
There are super-powers, but what power-ups occur evolve naturally out of the story and have a price - the more the characters use higher levels of power, the more they cripple themselves when they're not "powered up". Again, a word of warning - there will be fatalities on all sides, some justified, some tragic.
It is a tale of sacrifice, heroism and conflicting ideals, selfishness and stupidity, courage and rage, (unrequited) love and hate.
The music is . . . different. Some is used to good effect, but none of it is conventional. One reviewer once called the OP a "Japanese Ricky Martin" song. The animation style is more realistic than some; the designer went on to work on Gundam Seed. These give the anime a different style than most productions.
Pay attention to the OP sequence. There are 3 versions - one for Kazuma, one for Ryuhou, and one for both (or neither). (Each has a different verse of the theme and a different selection of imagery.) These indicate who gets center-stage in the episode, and all 3 do evolve over time - notably, casualties become sepia-faded rather than colored, in a moving touch.
One thing to say about the ending, the main conflict is actually resolved in Ep 24. Ep 25 is mostly an epilogue of rebuilding, and Ep 26 a testosterone overdose on the theme as our main characters fight it out for no reason other than to see who's best. (This episode is the most violent of them all. The story continues right through the last credits though, so don't think it's over 'til it's over.)
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys or is at least tolerant of fighting anime. But it's not for anyone who dislikes violence, bloodshed or who can't bear to see characters they've come to like, come to an end.

First of all, I must say this, Scyred is a rip off of X-Men. The way it was set-up is the same, you have prejudice against the native Alter users because they were born different. For the Alter users who wants to be accepted, they join the anti-native Alter user group headed by the government called Holy in order to capture native Alter users and ship them off somewhere. Then there are native Alter users who rebels or hide from the government. Basically as I stated above, a rip off of X-Men.
As for the rivalry between the two main protagonists, Ryuho and Kazuma, it was good to begin with but started to get annoying, especially when they are constantly being compared to one another ( see the many times they are sychronized in saying how they will destroy the other ).
As for the character designs, one word: amazing. I think the character designer was the one who did Gundam Seed. As for the characters, each of them had an important role to the story. All I have to say is that Kazuma needs to find a girl his age because he has a major Lolita complex.
The battle scenes are interesting to watch. It's fun to watch how Kazuma fight ( he has some weird movements involving his legs ). The thing about each battle is that the characters's abilities improve, or let just say that their powers will evolve. As for the music, it matches the show and the battles really well.
Overall, Scyred is an ok show. The plot wasn't great, it could have been better, and the last two episodes were pointless. Just one thing, it never explained the reason for the title ( if anyone wants to find out the reason for the title Scryed, read the manga ). But as an action show, it's good.

Scryed is funny; well... probably for the first couple episodes anyway. Scryed is stupid; I kid you not. Try to watch this series entirely and you will find yourself thinking, "huh?" as the show reaches its final episodes.
Scryed pretty much starts like many Sci-Fi Shounen animes are supposed to be. There are the robots, men with super power called "Alters", and don't forget the damsels to spice up the romance sub-plot. The story does appeal to me at the beginning because it portrays the clash between two ideologies where neither side is right or wrong. On one side is Kazuma who believes that the government is unfair in treating the native Alters like him as criminals. On the other is Ryuho, a "converted" Alter who works for the government to capture the "untamed" Alters. Clearly with this kind of story, you always need a third party with hidden agenda that intentionally causes the commotion to happen. Of course there is no need to spoil who that third party is, so as to not ruin the pleasure of watching Scryed, but let's admit it: every action show usually needs that part to propel the story forward.
What Scryed fails to accomplish is to use these ingredients and make a good story to its completion. The story does progress in each episode but probably the last six episodes are literally wasted to solving the problem by using brute force. Imagine having a boxing match where both boxers are already exhausted and they could only hope to just survive the twelfth round. That is how Scryed turns out to be: when you have nothing else to tell about, a last punch will probably suffice to end the story.
To some extent, Scyred is not a bad anime at all. In fact I was amazed to see a good number of characters with pretty significant roles in this series, sacrificing their lives because of their beliefs. Mmmh, sounds like a good anime to teach the value of patriotism. Anyway, the problem that devalues the quality of Scryed is because it looses its focus at the end. Although it could be a decent series to watch, I will at least put a huge warning sign saying that the ending of this show could have been done better.

Posted by : AlDim Posted on : 2004-10-17
Scryed is an ok show that could have been great with some better writing. Midway through, it was going very well but quickly went down in the following episodes. It started taking itself WAY too seriously and overdramatized too much in an extremely cheesy way. On top of that, the story development slowed down and never got anywhere.
Most of the female characters in this show are horrible. The voice overs are enough to make them overly irritating but the lines written for them and the corny romance turn them into an utter disaster. The guys fare a bit better but apart from Kazuma and a few others they aren't much either. Especially the bad guy is one of the lamest I've ever seen. Even Kazuma's straightforwardness got pretty old throughout the show and made me just yawn by the end.
At least the battles are pretty fun to watch throughout, and the visuals and music are excellent. Though they aren't quite able to save Scryed.

Posted by : uzumaki_naruto Posted on : 2004-04-16
Okay, the first thing I want to congratulate the maker about scryed is they really put the correct soundtrack "Reckless Fire". As its soundtrack said the anime is really reckless. Think, from the first time this anime started it only shows us bloody battle between alter user. While the battle itself still enjoyable to watch, but this anime lacks these major points:
- Boring to watch it again (it shows only battle)
- No great relationship between character
- lack of romance
Conclusion: This anime is only enjoyable for people who likes action anime. For you who like romance, and other things other than fighting better not watch this anime because you find a little of it.
