Synopsis : Full Moon wo Sagashite is about a 12-year old girl named Mitsuki, which means "Full Moon" in Japanese. She has throat cancer, and she refuses to let her doctor perform surgery on her throat to remove the tumor because of the possibility of losing her voice. Mitsuki's dream is to become a singer, so to her, losing her voice is worse than death.
Two years ago, Eichi-kun, a close friend of Mitsuki's, left for America. Before they parted, they made a promise - to keep pursuing their dreams until they met again. Eichi's dream was to become an astronomer, and Mitsuki's was to become a singer.
After refusing surgery, Takuto and Meroko, two Shinigami (legendary Japanese ghosts that collect people's souls when they die), arrive at Mitsuki's place. Shinigami are usually only visible to dead people, but for some reason, Mitsuki can see them, and they accidentally give away the fact that Mitsuki only has a year left of her life. This makes Mitsuki desperate to make her dream of being a singer come true.
Mitsuki sneaks away from everyone and heads to the music studio, but is unable to audition because she is too young. Feeling sorry, among other things, for her, Takuto gives Mitsuki a drop of his blood to swallow, and afterwards, Takuto is able to change Mitsuki into a 16-year old girl whenever the need arises.
Thus begins the story of Mitsuki's double life as a sick and weak 12-year old girl, and as the beautiful 16-year old idol singer "Full Moon."
This anime is 52 episodes long. There are some filler episodes that don't really advance the plot, but the story never seems to get boring. If you can bear the cute-ness and slight immaturity (Mitsuki is only 12, anyway), you'll probably love this anime

I would normally give a show like this one a 10 but I do have a problem with the show. The number of songs used to portray the Idol artist over the course of the 52 episodes and over the course of a year while somewhat realistic it is not really realistic to have a concert or especially multiple concerts and even have a radio show that focuses on one or even two songs. My problem was the number of songs that were done. With only 4 songs total for the artist it just was not enough.
Other then that I would say this deserves rave type reviews. I loved it. The story was very sweet and we have the characters that at times seemed very real and well developed. I do think some of the actions and responses mite have been a bit unrealistic but it was over all just so very enjoyable that I can not take off for that.
As far as the music, I loved the songs that were played almost without exception. I did not really enjoy the opening song but everything else was fantastic. I highly recommend this show!

This anime is definitely one of my favs. It has an interesting backing story and characters that are hard to beat. To be brutally honest, there isn't enough romance to suit my taste. There is only the obsessions of the main character and a bit of unrequited love. I am one that routes for the lovey dovey, holding them in their arms sort of romance and this anime in particular was lacking that effect.
There is indeed tragedy but not an extreme amount. It was a well thought out sort of tragedy that leaves you going "WTF NOO!! THAT CAN'T HAPPEN WTF NOOO!!"...well that's what happened to me anyway ^-^.
My favourite element of this anime is that somehow most of the characters' pasts link together. The manga went into much more detail about this however and there was more romance going on in the manga.
If you are looking for an anime that will have you bursting at the seems with sadness or complete head over heels destined romance then this isn't the one for you. But if you want a tearjerker with a bit of obsessed love and naive love then look no further...classy and cute.

I don't understand why this name got so many stars ! God is it horrible, I never regreted watching an anime as I did with this one.
The story is weak, a girl realized she is going to die after a year, oh please and once she knew her reaction was " I wanna sing " I mean come on no crying no tears no time to absorb the shock ?? and the those shingami or whatever whatever what who follows her why were they there ??? if the person should die in the moment he is meant to be no need to be there with her for over and year !! oh give me a break and the ending is so so so silly and unbelieable ..
The soundtracks are bad too, I mean her sound was not really great - with all respect for the singer - but even the songs were less than normal. The characters are the wrost, all weird and none of them make a sense for a normal human being, may be except for the grandmother.

When I was searching a good anime to watch through streaming, I became curious to watch FMwS so I decided to watch it and when I was in the half way, it caught my attention to watch it more.
Story: 10/10
The story was so sad and it makes me cry! Because this poor girl Mitsuki only has a year left in her life and then two strange shinigami showed up accidentally. The shinigami's were curiously noticed that she can see them. And from that day her life change into a 16 yr. old girl and dreaming of a singer so she can met Eichii-kun.
Characters: 8/10
They are great especially when Takuto sacrifice his life to be able to fulfill Mitsuki's to become a great singer! and each of them had unique traits I especially like Meroko because she was confessing many many times to Takuto how she loves him and it is cute too! That Eichii guy was uhhmm no comment at al.l I think the story revolves around him.
Overall: 9/10
I really like it soo much especially when Mitsuki changed into a 16 yr. old and everytime she sings. Her song enlighten me up!! and I really enjoy listening to her Eternal Snow and it is a sad song and its message was sad to and it is a Sad Love!

At first, I didn't know what Full Moon wo Sagashite was until my friend shoved the manga into my face. It turned out to be really interesting, and when I found out there was an anime for it, I had to watch.
Even though the anime isn't as good as the manga, it was still a nice anime to enjoy and watch. I didn't really like the opening and ending songs (except for Eternal Snow as the Ending Song), but the songs inside the anime were really good, and it got to me. I have to say that the ones that I loved the most was "New Future" and "Eternal Snow".
The characters are really specifically described. I wouldn't have figured out that Takuto was actually part of a band a long time ago until the story kept going. I really like the fact of Takuto and Mitsuki being a pairing, too. That's just so cute!

Full Moon is about hope. It's about ambition, optimism, and inner strength. It's about making every day of your life your very best. It has a powerful story, beautiful music, heartbreaking climax, and an excellent ending difficult to find better to compare.
Mitsuki, although weak physically and suffers from serious throat disease, has a passion in singing and wants to be a singer because her best friend, Eichi, loves to see her becoming a famous singer. She tries hard to become popular despite her health problems and obstacles from other celebrities, hoping to make Eichi proud to be her best friend. We the viewers can't help but to root for Mitsuki to reach her dream as soon as possible, as she only has one year to live before she will die from her illness.
Sadly, Full Moon does not come without flaws. This anime could have easily been condensed into 24 episodes and the level of emotional intensities would be the same, if not even more. After the fourth episode, the series is plagued with filler episodes one after another. There are number of filler episodes which are downright unnecessary and barely average e.g. There is one episode when someone brought the cursed stone into the house and Takuto could not get in. They spent the whole episode trying to find that stone. Such episodes could have been left out completely and there would be zero effect towards the progression of the story. In several episodes, a quarter of showing time were spent with Mitsuki singing her songs on stage, and it would be no surprise that people who are not into J Pop or people who cannot stand filler episodes would give up on this show, before they reach the last quarter, which is the highlight of the series.
The unpredictable twist in Episode 42 changes the mood of this anime from a light hearted shoujo anime into an intense drama. From Episode 40 to the ending was a ride which runs the full course of emotional intensities. Full Moon is now delivering the message to its viewers that one must not lose the will to live no matter what happens. I was deeply touched with Mitsuki's internal struggle to overcome her despair and keep moving forward despite of what happened to the most influential person in her life and her worsened illness. Her inner strength and development really impressed me. The romance which was whimsical in the first three quarters of the series began to seriously develop, and the fourth quarter of Full Moon is a memorable watch. The ending is right where everything matures, and it is indeed one of the most satisfying endings I have seen.
My first impression when I finished the last episode was I really loved it. Loved it loved it. But after some time passed, I thought back about the overall show and realized that although it is a good series, but it does not deserve such high rating it is now receiving. As when one takes the whole show into consideration, (s)he will notice that the first three quarters of the show is very average. Had the first three quarters of the show not got the beautiful songs to save the day, I am still uncertain whether I would stop watching it or not. Thank god I didn't, so I didn't miss its excellent final quarter. Yes, I recommend Full Moon to lovers of romance / drama genre. You might not hail this anime in your Top 10 or anything, but I am sure you'll find Full Moon a satisfying experience which you won't regret.
Animation
For 2002 production it is quite good, but definitely not what the best 2002 has to offer.
Sound
The best aspect of the show. Although I don't like both opening themes of Full Moon but I love all of the four songs featured in the series. 'New Future' really touches my heart. 'Eternal Snow' is also absolutely beautiful, especially when it was played in the heartbreaking scene in Episode 42, it made me cried. Myself and Love Chronicle are also very good. I wish there are more songs in the series.
Voice acting is outstanding. Yasuo Saitou plays Takuto and he is superb. Myco plays Mitsuki and she also sang all four songs in the series. I really like her voice when she is singing. It is very touching.
Story
Memorable
Character
Excellent. Mitsuki, Takuto, and Meroko are a very lovable trio.
Value
I don't see myself watching the whole show again because I don't think I will be able to tolerate those fillers in the first three quarters, but I might watch the last quarter again. I really like that part .. As for its songs, I have listened to them again and again .. They are really good.

The main focus of this anime is a 12-year old girl name Kouyama Mitsuki that has a very strong passion for singing and also keeping a promise to a boy that she feel in love with. Unfortunately she came down with throat cancer that prevented her from singing but that couldn't stop her will from singing but fortunately two shinigami Takuto and Meroko appeared in her room and told her she only has one year to live. After hearing that she was encourage to make her dream come true so shinigami Takuto turn her to a 16 year old so she could audition. When she turn 16 year old she could fulfill her dream at the same time and also keep the promise with the boy that she loves name Eichi.
The sound or song of this anime is so great that it makes it one of the reason I enjoy watching anime and also one of my favorites. To start this off the opening theme song is done by the group called The Scanty that started off the opening that made it decent enough but wasn’t one of the best. The ending theme song were token from the song that Full Moon sung that was sung by real life person name Myco while doing it solo and I really liked the ending theme song since it was overlap in the few scene in the end of each episode till the end of the theme song. The song that was done on this anime was so captivating that I really felt like buying the soundtracks. When Full Moon sing her song she could touch people heart with her song also touched my heart too and I listen to that song over and over again and I never got bored of it.
The design on the character was terrific that made them look really cute but it was different from the other animes in their design and I have no complaint about the animation or design.
I haven’t totally read the manga for Full moon wo sagashite but I read some of it and it was similar to the anime but it had additional scene that wasn’t shown on the anime. This anime is one of those emotional anime that makes u cry or feel sad and it also some part of the episode had me in tears so many times during the sad scenes but it also has some happy scene that made me cry as well. This anime is so good that I would sit there watching each episode and don’t want to get up but when I’m done I would watch it all over again. The 52 episode is pretty long enough for a show but it seem so short to me because it was so good that sometimes I would expect them to show more episodes with even better technique and that’s how good this show really is so I urge people to come and watch this anime. All u anime fan and non-anime fan out there that like this type of anime it is the right choice to watch this anime.

No offense, but I thought the FMWS the anime was a dissapointment compared to the manga.
Story: The story is about a girl named Mitsuki who had a serious case of throat cancer, but hopes to become a singer. Oneday two shinigamis (deathgods) appeared and told her she only has one year left to live. The shinigamis felt sorry for her so they gave her chance to become a singer.
The anime story is very happy and light compared to the manga. It was also annoyingly stupid and childish. It has too many pointless episodes that hardly has any significance to the story. There were 52 episodes while the manga only lasted about 6 volumes.
Characters: One reason why I really enjoyed FMWS the manga was its characters and their background stories. But in the anime it actually cut out some characters and hardly goes deep into the characters' past. This story is not only supposed to be about Mitsuki only, but all the major characters.
Animation & opening/closing: I dont' know about you, but I didn't think the quality of the animation was that good. It actually looked pretty cheap. Also the opening/ closing doesn't really catch any attention.

Posted by : gengduck Posted on : 2006-03-27
Yays: The storyline is extremely well developed. After the fillers at the beginning, the story moves very quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The ending is so bittersweet, but is oddly satisfying.
Nays: There are too many fillers at the beginning of the series. The story gets rolling in the episodes at the mid twenties.
Characters: 10/10
Yays: All of the characters are very different and defined. Towards the middle of the series, you can feel the pain and joys of the characters. Almost all the characters can be symphathized with.
Nays: The voicing of Mitsuki is too high pitched and gets annoying after a while.
Music: 10/10
Yays: Music is an intergral part of this series: the main character is a singer. The lyrics of the songs reflect the mood of the plot as the story changes. The sweet melodies of the song are beautiful and extremely emotional.
Nays: The second opening theme is somewhat disappointing.

PLOT/GRAPHICS
First of all its graphic is not good as what you may think but the plot of the story makes its interesting.
CHARACTERS
Mitsuki is cute, funny, sad, high spirits girl. She always wants to sing in front of many people it her dream. Takuto, her shinigami is really a cool guy especially when he tried to give support to Mitsuki. Ichi a handsome (guy whom Mitsuki fell in love with) had left.
MUSIC
Sad songs .The songs in the story really have a connection with the plot of the story.
It touches my inner heart. Until today when I heard the songs I think I was gonna cry. Don't know why??
Overall it's a very romantic, funny, suspense, and sad anime I have ever seen. This is must buy anime. You must watch it and feel it.
:)

My friend first told me about the series and I knew it would be good cause my friend Kira always chooses good shows that I like. He likes kinda strange things eh? but I really liked this series!!!
I think Full Moon wo Sagashite is soooo cute. I love the character Mitsuki, and her grandma's past was very interesting and sad. When Takuto and Meroko turn into the cat and the bunny they look sooo cute!!! Iwant to hug them XD I like listening to the song, they were very good and they really touched my heart. I liked how Mitsuki's will to sing, I also like to sing. Some parts were funny too XD the ending was GREAT!!!!
It makes me wonder what happens after though, kinda sad that it's over, I loved watching it ^-^
The only bad thing is that I don't get how a 12 year old girl's voice would sound so adult, it sounded nothing like a childs

Posted by : blackroseXP Posted on : 2006-01-30
I love this anime it is so cute! Yet so sad... It's about a girl name Kouyama Mitsuki, she just loves to sing, but bad thing is she cant because she has a tumor of the throat. She had made a promise to the boy, Eichi, who she loves ,that she would one day become a singer, but instead two angels of death, Takuto and Meroko, appeared to Mitsuki and informed her that she only had one year left to live. Takuto and Meroko then helps her out and turns her into a 16 year old so she can be able to enter a singing career and be a singer.
Animation: The animation was great. I just love how Mitsuki is. She looks so adorable in either way of a twelve year or sixteen year old. I just love how they created Takuto and Meroko in stylish clothes, but it seems child-ish. I should of been more like a stylish clothes for like magicians since they have magic or mix it up with magicians clothes and like a grim reaper type features since they are angels of death. I also love how they made it in cute styles. Like in the part of the anime where Takuto and Meroko where stuff animals that was soo adorable and the characters like Mitsuki cute and others. Plus it was perfectly exciting and clear to be able to see.
Sound Effects: The sound effects where also great! Like the theme song it's soo exciting and the way Mitsuki danced at the beginning was very cute. I even remeber the steps to it! The ending theme I just love it. It was so peaceful and calming. In the anime the sound effects was normal. Mostly the part with Mitsuki singing was also great it made me want to sing along with her, which I did do.
Characters: The characters was all cool. My most favorited character was Takuto and Eichi they are both so cute! Takuto the very like serious type. Eichi a very calm, happy person. Each character made a good role to the anime.
Overall I give this a 10/10. It had action, adventures, romance and comedy to this anime. It also made me cry so this anime was really deep.

Well, this is a good anime series, but a bit boring at the beginning. The series get interesting around episode 30, so if you are not patient, you better go and watch another anime series.
Animation 9/10
The animation is good. I have nothing to complain about. The character design is good.
Characters 8/10
The characters are well done. Some of them really change as the story goes on, for example Mitsuki, who at the end of the series seems to be more mature.
Music 8/10
The music is good, but some openings are really songs that are kind of boring. I dont like them very much, but the ending, Love Chronicle, is really moving. Someone could really get addicted to this song. I did.
Story 9/10
Although it is not very original is still very good. Mitsuki has only one year left before she will die, and in that time she tries to fulfill her dream of being a singer. She gets help from Takuto and Meroko, the Shinigamis that are taking care of her.
Overall 9/10
I liked this series. If you like music and anime, this one is perfect for you.

For me, Full Moon wo Sagashite is a feel good, warm and fuzzy feeling anime. Where the main character with one year to live has to fulfill her dream of becoming a singer, she is, of course, helped by two unexpected death Gods.
Positives
I have been watching a lot of darker anime so this was a change of pace for me. At first, I did not want to watch it. I thought it would be too sweet and cloying. It was a bit, but the character development was wonderful and the characters were not all

Posted by : Kono Posted on : 2005-12-24
Full Moo wo Sagashite is possibly one of the best anime's I've ever watched. It shows the different type of loves there are between two people, The trouble facing alot of singers, a sad plot of a dying girl and her dreams, a very sad Climax about 3/4 the way in, and a WONDERFUL ending making you want MORE!!! Haha I loved it, (Now im pissed because i just found out episodes 1-20 for me arent working -.-) All the characters were perfect, I loved the relationship between Mitsuki and her Grandma and how it changed so much. The story BEHIND her grandmother was great, Takutos role in everything was truly stunning how it all turned out I love this anime, and I recomend it to everyone!
