As far as I'm concerned there is nothing I would change about this show or anything that I find to be wrong with it. In other words I'm giving it a 10. I haven't done many reviews on this website, but I have watched a great deal of anime, and this one probably handles the combination of action and comedy better than just about any similar show in its genre.
Let me explain why it's a winner.
Plot: Ben-To tells the story of Yō Satō, a guy who wakes up on a supermarket floor unable to remember what knocked him unconscious. He eventually learns that he was knocked out from a Ben-To battle which happens in supermarkets all over Japan. In these battles people beat the crap out of each other to try getting their hands on half priced bento boxes the second they go on sale. The plot is so farfetched that the more seriously the characters take it the funnier it becomes. It's a very simple shonen plot about a character getting stronger.
Animation: Released in the winter of 2011, it's not too surprising that the animation here is very crisp and up to date. The team at David Production, which by the way I've never heard of, do an excellent job of drawing the characters and the backgrounds. The action scenes are done to particular perfection, with not a problem to find between frames.
Characters: The characters were another high note. The main two roles were played by pretty generic character types, but Oshiroi who used the battles as inspiration for writing her Yaoi fan fiction was a particular highlight. The show also went from a 9 to a 10 when the twins were introduced. I won't give too much away about them, but basically they end the show well.
Music: The opening theme music was great and very catch while the ending theme was forgettable. During the fights some of the best tracks were put on display.
In shows similar to ben-To, the comedy is so deeply focused on, that the action is done poorly. Ben-To starts out as a comedy show with great action and becomes an action show with great comedy. Both are done as well as can be, and for that, this show gets a 10/10
