Taking into consideration that this show Battle Athletes Victory is a 1997 show I am going to rate the show. First off this was a rather fun show to watch. We start out with Akeri who is the Daughter of the greatest athlete of all time on earth being completely self conscious and with a very severe inferiority complex. She is training and competing to follow in her mother's footsteps as the Cosmo Beauty.

First the animation is pretty good for the time but seeing as it is currently 2007 it is rather dated. Ill give it an 8 on the animation because it really was good but I still prefer the higher quality that the modern animation brings.

Next the music I give an 8 because I really enjoyed the music though it does not really stick with me.

Story Ill break into three parts. First the story itself and how it was played out. I give a 6. I just had some problems with believability issues as well as the irritating nature of the idea of the "Cosmo Beauty"
The next part in the story is relationships. I will give this one a 9. I really enjoyed watching the relationships change and develop.
The final aspect I give a 10 as character development. One of my most favorite and to me one of the most important aspects of any story is how a character develops throughout the story. Here we have growth in more then just the main character but all the primary characters as well. The 7 finalists all change the coach changes the other characters involved directly in the events change. I can not say enough about how well the character development aspect was taken.

Rewatchablilty: I give a 6 while not one that I will be seeing again any time soon I can see watching it at least one more time sometime in the future.

Total ends up being a 7.8

Yes I recommend this show if you have some time on your hands for a rather nice show. As long as you do not mind watching 10y old programing.

This is not the kind of anime you'd watch for a deep revelation or for a well-twisted plot. This anime doesn't expect you to take it seriously and doesn't take itself seriously either. For some lighthearted fun or a mood-lifter, Battle Athletes Victory is the way to go.

Sure, the protagonist of the story, Akari Kanzaki, is self-centered and whiny, but she does it in a much more lovable way than usual. For instance, she builds herself an "Akari House"--a cardboard box she'll hide in and that you'll see sliding around. The characters, in general, are pretty standard. They follow general stereotypes, such as: boyish, stoic and driven, determined to follow her idol's path. However, these characters manage to still be charming with their particular quirks and interactions.

Even if it's laughing at the ridiculous "tests" the athletic school requires them to pass, such as racing across minefields while pulling giant rollers, or bicycling along a rollercoaster track, Battle Athletes Victory will have you smiling in no time. The dubbed version of this anime is even tolerable. This anime is a great pick-me-up and worth watching at least once.

Battle Athletes Victory is a fun sports anime, with a light shoujo-ai element that makes for a very entertaining watch.

Animation: On the whole, the animation is quite appealing, but nothing spectacular.
The character design is quite appealing and each character very distinguishable from one another (although Akari's hairstyle is a little weird!).
The action scenes were quite nicely done and I loved the "running" sequences when the characters were bathed in light, they honestly looked like they were running.

Sound: I have to admit to being disappointed with both the opening and ending songs. The op. was OK to listen to a few times, but the ed. was a once only track. The BGM was uninteresting as well and I can't even remember if it was any good (and I only finished watching BAV 2 days ago!).
The voice acting was pretty good though and apart from one or two irritating characters (Ling-Pha springs instantly to mind), the seiyuu suited the characters very well.

Storyline: I was quite impressed with BAV, as I had previously seen the OVA and it was a little too compressed with no character profiling and you were just thrown into the story. With the TV series, you got to see the competitions that were held to select the entrants for the Satelite University and then a far more indepth story for the ultimate goal of Cosmo Beauty.
The competitions held were a little strange and a little violent at times but still very enjoyable. There were a few crazy characters that kinda spoiled some of the enjoyment, as they seemed a little out of place (until the final 4 episodes, where their crazy behaviour became useful!).

There was a very funny and very light weight shoujo-ai element to the show, which I didn't find off-putting. Infact Kris Christopher's affections for Akari were sweet and combined with Ichino's jealousy, made for some very amusing scenes!

The ending to the Cosmo Beauty contest was lovely and then the final 4 episodes were an excuse to bring all of the main characters toegther to save the earth from a crazy athletics freak and although this section wasn't necessary, it was still entertaining.

Characters: most of the characters were great. There were one or two irritating characters; like Ling-Pha who just got on my nerves the whole way through and she wasn't even funny! Mister Miracle got on my wick the whole way through as well, he was a pretty useless coach and overall a pretty useless character. The good ones were great and full of life. I especially liked Jessie (the American), she had her dreams and goals and went for them no matter the consequences.

Overall: much better than the OVA in the fact that there was a lot of character profiling, plus the competitions were a little more interesting.
It's a very light weight anime, something that can be enjoyed when you want a "no brainer" to watch, or if you enjoy non-serious sports anime, or you've just watched Princess Nine and want something to fill the gap!!
