Do you like deep characters? A strong plot? Philosophical undertones? If so, move on please, because this show lacks all of the above. On the other hand, if what you're looking for is a fix of decent, well animated military sci-fi, mecha action, this could be for you.
In brief then, Gundam SEED, which was set in an entirely new Gundam universe, focuses on the exploits of one Kira Yamato, a neutral in an ongoing war who is unfortunate enough to be both in the wrong place at the wrong time and preternaturally skilled at piloting the Earth Forces' latest Mobile Suits. Even worse for our hero, his childhood friend Athrun Zala is an equivalent pilot for the enemy. SEED's story is sadly rather shallow, as are the characters, though with 50 episodes to work with, Sunrise do manage to fit some character development in here and there; generally this is done through the soap-opera-esque side story involving the relationships of Kira's group of friends. At its best moments, however, the story does resemble the classic naval pursuit tales of Forrester and O'Brian. If you're familiar with the very first Gundam series, you'll spot allusions and references to it throughout the plot.
What fills most of those 50 episodes is action, pure and simple. And actually, it's often quite well done - because of the series' length there's a certain reliance on recycled footage, but it's easy to forget this amid the barrages of missiles, lasers, callsigns, orders and the occasional superweapon. The overall animation quality is generally high, and the series has a nice, crisp-yet-chunky Gundam aesthetic. Sunrise evidently put plenty of effort into their mechanical design (as you'd hope) and it pays off in the exciting variety of opponents who engage our hero as the series progresses. I'll note here - although I haven't let it affect the rating, as it's a matter of personal preference - that the nature of the series' mecha is generally realistic, but with a certain 'Super Robot' edge.
The music is nothing to write home about but it serves its purpose, and some of the more exciting tunes are actually quite good - another piece of evidence that most of the effort in this series went into the action. The voice acting too is passable, and the actual sound effects are rather satisfying, in a kind of Star Wars-ey, 'ZAP - KABOOOOM' way.
There's really not that much more to say about Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, because overall it's a rather shallow show. Nevertheless, if you're simply looking to switch off your brain, and enjoy a lengthy blast of mecha action, this otherwise rather mediocre show could be the ideal choice.

Romance-action-mechs-drama
Review made after watching all 50 episodes of GS
After all this time , I have seen lotsa lotsa animes, Gundam SEED remains at the top of the list . Lets see each category
.
Characters 10/10
You will NEVER find an anime with so MANY characters with SO different personalities, Kira Yamato (the protagonist) is the best anime character i have ever seen, he is not annoying, you see him try hard, you DO believe that he must succeed, the feelings the main 4 characters that give you with the actions and decisions they take are amazing .
Music 9/10
Well music plays on the background are just great, the fact that one of the main characters is singing (Lacus) makes it possible to fit in many scenes in the anime. I have seen it again in one more anime and i think the idea is great. intro and ending are really nice . Not something extraordinary though, so i am giving it a 9.
Animation 8/10
Even there is a nice detail on the mechs, and although there is a nice detail in many spots at the anime there are many scenes that the design on characters is just bad . Well its an old anime after all :D although even after so many years it doesn't lack a bit in the details. If I had watched it the day it was released I would have given it a 10. Compared to the other animes released at that period of time.
Story 10/10
Ok here is the spot you can say OMG. You NEVER know what is gonna happen next, the emotions this anime creates in you while watching are what it gives it, in my opinion a big 10 in the storyline.
Overall 10/10
The best anime in this category and imo the best of all the categories, and I DON'T even like mech animes. As I said before, if an anime gives you a feeling, such that you cant wait to see the next episode, that gives it a BIG 10 . I can think of many animes that could take this spot in the category of mechs, but because of the unique storyline and the big turn of the events, Gundam Seed in my opinion takes the lead. So this is the one that takes the 10 for me in the category "Mechs"

This perhaps was the best Gundam series ever!!! The series being a long history of anime gold with various characters and story plots has combined all the elements of the previous Gundam series!
The fear of two different groups fight to eradicate each other can be seen in the world today (Israel and the Palastines), the fear of bombing of the nuclear type (atomic bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki). These two worldly events can be used to hit real emotional ties within people who have lived through the experience and pass the stories down through the generations. Gundam Seed taps into those fears!
Every fight between the Naturals and the Coordinators can be felt as an emotional struggle. Of course, when some of the characters start dying off it can be scene as a pivotal point in Kira and Athrun's life. As a watcher you also feel that there was no need for them to die. There is the beauty of this series! It shows that wars do take away people that shouldn't die and sometimes the fights are senseless!
As stated, Gundam Seed was the best Gundam series in a long list of Gundam series. The animation and music was all done exceptionally well to compliment the already enticing story. This series is a keeper/repeater for many years to come!

Storyline/Plot: 8/10
Good storyline on the war and conflicts between the Earth Alliance, ORB and Zaft. Bits of the past are shown each time at different intervals to reveal the meaning of SEED, Kira's past and all the things that humans did to result in the current situlation. There is a mixture of emotions in Gundam SEED such as romance, friendship, intense anger, fear, sadness, etc, making it quite unique yet weird as having too many types of feelings doesn't necessary mean good.
Character development: 6/10
Too many characters, making the anime forego character development for many of them. Futhermore, characters do die in this anime (unlike many others) making proper character development difficult. Too much was focused on battles (Gundam SEED's selling point, I guess). More character building should have been done on Kira, Lacus, Athrun and Cagalli though.
Animation/Graphics: 10/10
Gundams were drawn beautifully and battles were great to watch. The overall graphics were great.
Music/ Songs: 10/10
All the songs were well suited for each part of the anime. The opening and ending songs were good too. There were many battle music and background music.
Overall: 8/10
A great anime for people who love the gundam series. Lots of gundams and battles with lots of characters but a lack of good solid storyline reduces the value of the anime.

Overall - 9.2
Animation - 9.0
Sound - 10.0
Story - 8.0
Character - 10.0
Value - 10.0
Enjoyment - 8.0
If you go to the library and read about the war history, you'll see that there had been many wars in the past between two races : Austrians versus Frenches, Trojans versus Greeks, Chinese versus Mongolians, et cetera. Why those wars broke out ? It's because of human's pride and ego. A Japanese will be proud that his country is the richest country on earth, while the Americans are likely to believe that their country is politically the most powerful. The Kuwaitis won't forget that the Iraqis had burned their oil wells, and the Jewishes will always remember that the Germans have conducted a genocide against their races. Of course, war can't go on forever. It destroys the economy, after all. But it doesn't mean that people will forget the history once their countries are in peace. If people are influenced strongly enough to remind themselves of their pasts, conflicts will erupt, and war can break out.
The co-ordinators in Gundam Seed pride themselves for being physically stronger and more intelligent than the naturals, while the latter pride themselves for being 'pure' human beings. However, although the naturals deem themselves more superior, deep down inside they are afraid of the co-ordinators' abilities. Vice versa, while the co-ordinators pride themselves for being more intelligent, they don't like being discriminated by the naturals as 'incomplete humans'. Orb is a replica to Switzerland of the real world : a country which remains in neutrality. A place where naturals and co-ordinators can reside together peacefully. However, peace always come with a high price. And neutrality comes with a price even much, much higher.
Although Gundam Seed's story is indeed engaging, but what really makes Seed shines is its characters. From the presidents right down to the crew, Seed brilliantly portrays their perspectives and reactions towards the circumstances they face. Kira, a kind-hearted person who never wanted to kill anyone, but was forced to pilot the mobile suit to protect his loved ones because no one else but him is able to. Athrun, a pilot of Zaft who must fight Kira who is actually his best friend. Fllay is another interesting character. Racist and extremely spoiled, Fllay had no intention whatsoever to join the army in the first place. However, once her beloved family member was killed by Zaft right in front of her eyes, she went out of her way to do anything to manipulate people around her to kill the enemies for her own revenge.
Murrue and Natarle are also well portrayed as two commanders who have completely different military commanding perspectives. Though both are caring and kind-hearted, Murrue makes decisions according to what she deems right, while Natarle is dead strict to the rules. Though people like Natarle will progress easier, her action is nothing but a double-edged sword. If her leader is a good man, then that's fine, vice versa. With Natarle's case, however, she was too slow to realize that she was serving a wrong person. Therefore, by the time she decided to change, it was too late. And finally, there's President Uzumi, a man with an excellent ideology. Wishing for Orb to remain in neutrality, he realized afterwards that to remain neutral is even more difficult than to join the war. Being pressured by the world alliance, Uzumi faced a dilemma : whether to give up his ideology and allow other nations to take control, or to keep following his beliefs even if it means painful sacrifices.
Gundam Seed also touches upon some very realistic aspects of human nature. Racial discrimination for one. Though Heliopolis is a planet where naturals and co-ordinators reside together peacefully, but deep down inside, both races would still deem themselves more superior than one another. There was a scene when Lacus was singing and Sai was listening to her voice outside the room. Although Sai admitted that Lacus has a very beautiful voice, he also made a sarcastic and racist commentary that the reason she has a very beautiful voice is because she must have been through massive gene modifications. Another scene which is one of the best scenes in this anime is the conversation between Athrun and General Le Kluzze. Athrun was worrying that the naturals might kill the kidnapped Zaft princess. Le Kluzze, however, simply told Athrun to 'go search for her corpse and carry it back here. And don't forget to cry as well'. Le Kluzze, a ruthless general, never cared about the fate of the princess. He even wished for her to be killed, so that he could use this incident as an excuse to demand a war. Yes, Gundam Seed did a great job portraying the human nature to the audiences, and I really like this anime because of that.
I have two complaints about this anime though. My first complaint is about its first two episodes. They are dedicated to character introduction and twelve major characters appear in the first two episodes one after another. While I still didn't know who is who, I was confused as hell and ended up falling asleep. It took me another two determined attempts before I could finally get pass the first two episodes, and I was glad that I persevered, as afterwards I was indeed well rewarded. Another complaint is about its last five episodes. Because I was more interested with the relationship of certain characters in the show more than the story itself, I didn't actually care much about the final battle in the last five episodes, as they mostly consist of mecha battles and nuclear explosions. Personal taste aside, those are indeed minor complaints. And if I were to judge the overall quality of Gundam Seed, I'd say that despite those small flaws, it's still undeniably an excellent work.
The Gundam Dynasty has not witnessed an outstanding Gundam series after Gundam 0079. Most of the Gundam series released afterwards range only from 'good' to 'downright mediocre'. It took twenty three whole years after 0079 for another 'outstanding' Gundam to appear .. and that is Seed. From its excellent replica of modern politics and warfares, abundance of outstanding characters, excellent animation, and top notch music, Seed excels in every single departments. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed is definitely a proud addition to the Gundam Dynasty and is definitely one of the most substantial mecha anime ever created.
Animation
The only reason which prevented me from giving a ten in animation is because of the character design. Some characters (particularly Kira and Lacus) have chubby cheeks and cartoon-ish eyes, which certainly don't suit the intense atmosphere of this anime. Apart from that, Seed's animation is brilliant. The final five episodes feature the most outstandingly animated space battle scenes 2002 productions have to offer.
Sound
Gundam Seed is the second anime after Full Moon wo Sagashite which I made a decision way earlier before I finished the show that I'll be giving it a ten in sound category without any hesitation, because it deserves every single point of it. There are many OPs/EDs/ insert songs and they all range from good to outstanding. "Invoke" and "Meteor" are my favorites. The song Lacus sings is also beautiful, and the insert song at the end of episode 32 (the Fllay's and Miriallia's 'breakdown' scene) is so fitting that it made this scene became one of my favorite scenes in this series.
Voice acting is top notch. The BGM is among the most outstanding I have had a pleasure to hear. Excellent tunes performed by the orchestra .. those BGM in the battle scenes in particular are extremely impressive.
Story
Sadly, I had to cut two points because of two reasons .. 1) In every fifteen episodes or so, there will be one flashback episode, and yeah, that's a pain in an ass .. and 2) there are a few times when the story is a bit unrealistic .. like how come Kira was brought to Lacus' mansion in the middle of the series .. or how come a certain character didn't die .. but of course, those are also minor complaints .. and towards the end of the series, I realized that those events happened that way for a good reason. Apart from those flaws I mentioned, Seed's story is excellent.
Character
I like Tori and Halo-chan ^^ .. want one of each at home. Oh yeah, until the end I still don't know. What is Fllay's duty in the army anyway ? =p
Value
I have been avoiding Gundam Seed for a long, long time because of two reasons .. 1) I've always had an aversion to mecha anime, and 2) it's Gundam .. and I was not so keen on Gundam after my rather unimpressive experience with the infamously retarded Gundam Wing. However, Gundam Seed is in a different class when compared with Wing. Its story is much better, and the characterizations were done brilliantly. If you are after intensive mecha fights, this might not be one of your favorites. But if you are after a good story, I can't recommend this enough. And I must say that Gundam Seed could successfully cure my hatred for mecha anime away and I am now finding myself more interested in this genre as a whole. As a result, instead of giving a nine in value category, I kindly increased it to a ten because this anime has broadened my interest =D

I got off a wrong start since I watch the sequel before this, but I still think this is still the better one
Plot:7
It shows the story of how a young boy learns about using his talent, gaining courage and strength to protect the ones he loved, and also finding the person belonging to him. I wont call this unique, but the whole story's main just step-by-step-progression and all the twists are the new weaponaries and battle tactics.
Story:8
It shows the feelings of the characters well... Hatred, Anger, Loss, Sadness, Tears... it has all of them. But the most touching parts of this story is a verge and awakening that allows a person to protec the ones dearest to him, this parts are good.
The thing is that story tends to drag, and this story is actually just like showing the everyday life of some people who can kick ass with huge ass machines.
Animation: 7
I have to admit that some parts are really NOT well drawn, Kira's and Cagalli's face tends to distort at times. Lucas's face sometimes seems smaller than usual.
Some fighting scenes are reused but generally the battles are done well, but I usually get bored of stuff when things just always starts with peons flying towards each other, shields in front of them shooting randomly, and cant block properly. And the thing they like to do is that the developing characters always able to move properly while the peons only have 3 movement style; fly-shoot, sword clash, and exploding.
Music and Sounds: 10
Gundam Seed Music never fails to amaze me. The voice acting are always done well... as well.
Overall: 8
Too bad the sequel sucks that much. But this season is good enough to be appreaciated by anybody.

Story - 9/10
Well, although I'm not really into mecha but this one's quite nice. The story of previous Gundam had always been quite confusing and hard to comprehend but Gundam Seed's plot is clear.
Character - 9/10
Good character development, especially Kira and Lacus, my favourite character would be Athrun cause he's way cool.
Animation - 9/10
Cool mecha and well-defined graphics.
Music/Songs - 8/10
I think the themes used and the opening and endings are quite nice but could be improved, especially certain overlapping themes in certain battles.
Overall - 35/40 ( 87.5% )
An interesting mecha anime for both mecha and non-mecha anime fans.

Review:
Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED is an anime about friendship, pride, honour, love, battles between the Coordinators and the Naturals, war. It is promising to be fill with actions which will makes you want to watch till the end of the anime. Instead of people fighting it's more like robots named gundams fighting which is brings more excitement to the viewers.
There are a lot of characters but all of them look different by difference of hair colour and style or even personality. The characters are the ones that turns the anime to whole new excitement because sometimes you can never predict what they are going to do.
The music is just so alive and has so such good rhythm that it makes it more entertaining and more wild to watch. The music really takes a huge part in the anime without it would be a disaster. The songs are quite catchy also which will get stuck on your head for awhile.

Gundam Seed I suppose is the greatest of all gundam series, both in visual and in its storyline.
The storyline is so convicing that it feel like its gonna happen somewhere in the future. It tackles not only what future holds but also tackles moral values and morality.
The concept is really out of the ordinary, things like the phase-shift armor, the, "seed mode" that made Kira and Athrun superhumans, the word GUNDAM is an abbreviation (In other series, a gundam is a mobile suit that is made of gundanium alloy) and many others.
Animation is great, even if they're dull moments sometimes, I still consider it pleasing to the eye.
Even though its concept is out of the ordinary, there are some traditional concepts that is still applied, like the main character's mobile suit (gundam) color is mostly white, red and blue. (I wonder why)
The only thing that I don't want here (like any other gundam series) prolouges, they always keep popping at a crucial time...
Overall, It's really a kickass gundam series, For me, It's the best gundam series ever!

Gundam SEED is my favorite anime series of all time. That's saying a lot because I'm a critic and I have seen a lot of anime.
This anime gives the definition of deep, a whole new level. The matters of genetic engineering, morality, and war, play their role in this anime and teach the concepts of life and humanity. It is my personal guarantee that this anime will open your mind to a new level of thinking.
Despite what it sounds, this anime is not boring whatsoever (except for the memory flashbacks and review episodes). The animation and music are top quality, which adds to atmosphere of mecha battles.
The characters fulfill their roles. They also portray their thoughts without us having to hear their thoughts (I can finally die in piece). As the story moves on we learn more about the characters and questions are answered.
It can be Comedy when it wants to and it can be Romance when it wants to. All the characters and events fit into the story. There is no stupidity and there are no distractions and wastes of time. Although this is a slightly fill-in-the-gaps anime, that's perfectly understandable because this is a drama that always ends on a good note.
I recommend this anime to anyone of any age that isn't a shallow anime fan. I give this anime a 10 out of 10 as a critic and a big two thumbs up as the audience.

This is one of my favorite animes of all time! Gundams always have a deeper theme in them.
In Gundam Seed the two main characters Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala have a lengthy conflict with each other. Their battle scenes are so articulate and extremely detailed. Kira only fights to end the war and stop the suffering. Arthrun fights for the suvival of all coordinators. They are both fighting for a good cause in my opinion.
The plot os the story was great. This story talks about what could happen is humans were genetically changed to make them superior to oridinary humans. In this story the hatred and jeolousy eventually lead to a war between the two races.
There is also small amount of romance which turns to a very sad conclusion.
I loved all of the music a lot, the graphics, action and storyline were all perfect. The graphic were very detailed. The characters were all very beautifully drawn. This cartoon almost made me wish that there really was a war. >.< So there's no reason this doesn't deserve full points.

This was one gundam show that got me into the other gundam shows, with wing being my first ever gundam show i watched.
Gundam seed had its up's and downs with the plot, the begining was strong and interesting, when they go into space it was boring, desert episodes were boring also, after the desert episodes the show was ok, and then after some of the episodes i woud say after the episode between the fued between Athrun and Kira the show really got good and intersting till the ending which was decent.
Characters in the show were great, but still hated how they put 15-16 year olds into intense dramatic situations, still characters were nice to watch. Each character had there personality. Characters were deep and great the relationships were decent. The only flaw i have is i think the character should have been a little older to be part of this war and everything, and the drama and physchological problems they were going through was a little extreme, but hey this is just an anime with teenager anime characters are put into dramatic situations are fighting to bring peace.
Music to the show is the obvious, great songs/insertsongs, great music you can never go wrong with gundam show music/songs.
Animation was decent, the action was nice and fast paced. Character animation were ok.
This is a nice 50 episode gundam show, at points it can be boring, and at points it can be very exciting. The ending left the space for the sequel(destiny), characters were memorable and nice so 9/10.

I always like Gundams: like Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed, they're the best!
Unlike Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed is more deep.
The main characters, Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, pilot of Gundam Freedom and Justice respectively. I hate myself to say that their fightings are cool, because to them, its a sad thing. The fighting between Coordinators and Naturals. What is the purpose? Who are the ones truly at fault? Kira is not on anyone's side, but he fights to end the meaningless war.
There is so much loss and sadness, I can't really say it in details.
I like ALL the music A LOT, the graphics, action and storyline (I hate myself again).

The new Gundam.
The best fighting gundam I have ever seen. Unlike Gundam Wing's theme of making the movements of the mobilesuits realistic, Gundam Seed's mobile suits can move freely like humans doing martial arts. This gundam is the robot version of Bruce Lee (did you see how strike gundam kicks his enemies) who can literally kick ass.
Although the whole movie was full of "ohh that was cool" and "wow what a move", the story plot was not as good compared to Gundam Wing. You could say it's a bit more simple if you're a Gundam fan.
The 4 on 1 fight made by Kira and Arthrun's group was really a thumbs up. It showed Kira's improvement in battle (not like Hiro who's already a super pilot) until he became the ultimate coordinator. Trying to fend off 4 gundams is hard you know, specially if you don't want to kill your enemy. The fights also improved the crew of Arcangel, where most of its crew is new to battles, they gained a lot of experience from fighting Arthruns group.
Overall, the series was really great, I recomend this to all Gundam fans.
If you wana see a mobile suit kick ass, this series is for you.

Gundam Seed!
A great addition to the world of gundam. My first gundam series I was actually interested in. Also one of the first -real- anime I've watched. Here we gooo..
Story- lessee... The story was fairly good, the battle between coordinators and naturals, pretty typical, but it had its twists. A group of people from a neutral colony got mixed in with the war, and one them is a coordinator. Different views of worlds, relationships, twists, etc. It has it all.... sort of. Some, no, many parts get kinda boring. There seems to be a lot of talking, sometimes it's just useless in the end. But it was good, started well ended well.
Chars- They were okay. Kira was quite the crybaby, but becomes cool later on. His friend Athrun is on the ZAFT side, coordinators, and they both are forced to fight in the war. Kiras buddies seem usless at the start, but they become useful and have their own screentimes later. Athruns buddies pilot MS like Athrun, and have their own stories. One even likes one of Kiras buddies! hahha. The main villain, Raww le Klueze, is the dictator guy who wants the worlds to end in chaos. Lacus Clyne is a very pretty pink haired girl! Kiras sis in Cagalli, princess of Orb. There are some others....
Music- Great thing here. The OP and ED all matched the series perfectly. Goooood... sometimes the war background music gets annoying though.
Tech- Well, it has its times... but lots of it has re-used animation. But every battle has its own times, plus the battlegrounds varied from space, the desert, or the sea, etc... so they were good. Animation of chars and movement was pretty good, sometimes they get a little lazy, but nothing to point and laugh at... Mech designs are cool, especially Freedom.
Overall it was a cool gundam anime, lotso action, story, drama, etc. 8/10 recommend it to anyone who could watch long series. This was way better than its sequel....
