A vampire named Saya goes undercover at school to kill giant bat creatures. I was at least glad the person she was saving was not some random boy that people could match as a "quick love interest." Surprisingly, it was the school nurse, an unattractive middle-age woman, Saya was trying to save. Points for uniqueness. Unfortunately, I could care less about the cold blooded Saya and this poor nurse who was freaking out the whole time.

There was okay fighting but nothing to brag about, which is bad when your short does not present much of a story or any comedy or drama. I should disclaim that I watched this on SyFy channel, thus the animation was not at its best quality. Still, I did not like the character designs, and I have come to expect stellar animation quality in shorts. 2000 was not that long ago for this to be considered well animated.

I watched this recently and could not remember the music, so it must not have been glamorous. Sound was probably alright. There was simply not enough length or entertainment for me to enjoy this short. It was just another bloody anime work, and it failed to present me with any sort of artistic value.

So, I agree with just about every other reviewer here that this flick was too short. But still, it had my attention throughout, which says a significant something.

There wasn't alot of character development here, so there wasn't alot of real involved or super sophisticated characters. But I really wanted to know how things were going to turn out for Saya and the nurse. I had seen a couple of the "Blood +" episodes on Cartoon Network before seeing this original, but it did not really grab me as the lead in "Blood +" did not seem to have the intensity or determination that Saya in The Last Vampire has.

The artwork was very effective in that it was very good quality and did very well setting the real creepy and serious tone here. It was a plus.

The sound was uneven. I watched the English dubbed (which still had some subs), which had voices at times that were difficult to hear. And so when I'd turn up the volume to hear the voices, some airplane or explosion or something else loud would blow out my ears. Yeouch! The music worked well in this one, but I don't see myself getting the OST.

So, despite alot of mixed reviews on this one, I'd say give it a try. Where nothing new has come out recently that in any way approaches the intensity of my favorites like Elfen Lied, Claymore, Speed Grapher, etc., this was a pleasant find. 8 out of 10 Rating. 4 STARS.

Once again, Manga Entertainment publicity machine hyped this show as the next best thing since "Ghost in the Shell". I found that very hard to believe for a show less than 50 minutes long.

Animation
Productions I.G. were involved and as usual, the excellent quality was evident for all to see. I wouldn’t expect nor accept anything less from the same studio that brought us "Ghost in The Shell". The quality of the animation for Blood was excellent with scenes packed full of violence and gore. Nicely done.

Story
Watching this made me feel like I was an unanswered question from the quiz show 'Jeopardy'. For a movie of this length, there were just too many gaping plot holes with many unexplained questions. If more effort was made to expound on the story of Saya, then perhaps I would found something more tangible entertainment-wise. Instead I ended up feeling frustrated at the inherent lack of anything substantial. Far too short.

Characters
There was nothing much to mention other than the main heroine, Saya. It’s already asking too much to fully explore a main character’s personality and traits in a two hour movie. To do the same for a feature that is only 50 minutes in length is asking the impossible. If only it was longer.

Summary
It promised much, but failed to deliver. If you want a short, quick story with a heroine chopping up bad guys to pieces then 'Blood the Last Vampire' is for you. If you are looking for a movie with substance, look elsewhere.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE was very enjoyable but I expected it to be a lot longer than forty-eight minutes, that's for sure. But other than that, it was a fun ride. I even watched it three times in a row and it never got old. BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE is about a girl named Saya who is part of a demon slaying organization. She disguises herself as a new school girl on Halloween night when a group of demons start go on their mayhem inside the school. And that's when the fun begins.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE is filled with animated gore and awesome action scenes. After watching it the first time, you might want to watch it again.

I bought this anime simply because the title seemed intruiging and it was a Friday night and I wanted to see some gore. And that is what I got. Sadly, I was expecting a lot more from this.

The animation while exceptional did at times look shakey at those crucial moments of action.
The music was not great or bad - okay, more inclined to moderately good.
The plot was what was really lacking here. I felt that if they had increased the length of the film, for it was too short for me, to that of a normal film, a lot more could have been revealed about the main character which would have made it more enjoyable to watch, as it would have more reasoning and depth in it, instead of the random killing of vampires.

Overall: definitely worth watching but not worth seeing it a second time

When I first saw this I started to wonder if there was a show or something that goes with it. Later on I saw on G4 that there is a game in Japan that this is based on.

amimation-9

It looked good and the character movement and reactions also looked good. It is really dark needless to say. Tons of blood like any anime with vampires should have. The characters were also also designed in a unique way.

sound-3

I can't really remember it so it must not have been that good.

characters-5

Saya- is the only one who I can remember well. She was cold and could kick ass that's all I really got.
There were other characters who were in it like that teacher who Saya saved, and two agents who watched Saya. That is about all of them.

Story-3

There isn't realy much to talk about there. There are some kind of evil shapeshefting bloodsuckers, but what I want to know is are they vampires, but I guess not since the title and why is Saya hunting them and what is with that sword is it the only thing that can kill them or the best thing.

Overall-6
This is something you want to watch when you are waiting for something good to come on it isn't boring but it you will only watch it once and forget about it. As for the video game it has anime cutscenes, but is only avalible in Japan so that's all I know about it.

In reviewing this movie, I end up giving it a 9. Its definitely not perfect, but its good points are really good, and that for me makes up for a lot. I'll start with what I found were the good points and move to the bad.

First the animation. I simply cannot say enough about it. Amazing, realistic, lots of blood, as perhaps expected with the title. Early in the show, there is a bomber taking off from a US military base. I must have watched that particular scene at least a dozen times. I simply couldn't believe how well it was done. I almost felt as if I was there.

The sound was suberb as well. Everything from the background noises, to the sounds of the base, to the monsters, to the music. It set the tone, and helped build the story. Dark and creepy at times, sad and meloncholy at others. Making you feel for Saya the main character much more deeply then you otherwise would.

Now to the bad part. While the story itself is good, with Saya the main character basically going in and fighting these monsters. No problem there, but the duration of the film precludes a lot of depth, and its really felt. We are left with too many unanswered questions, including why it is Saya is fighting, who the monsters really are and who it is that is aiding Saya in her fight. Normally problems with the story would cause me to score an anime much lower, but the animation, sound, and action really boost it back up.

To sum up. Quality animation, intriguing story, excellent sound, lots of blood. While it can be watched over and over it is irritating for its lack of depth due mostly to its brevity. While I definitly recommend this for its good points, I must admit that after watching it, I was left wanting more. While Blood+ delivers its own version of this, I rewatched this movie after I finished watching Blood+, and immediately thought, the movie was better. I just wished they could have made it longer.

Something much more different than any other anime I've watched, and I was well entertained. The plot was a little lacking, but the events that took place were enough to make up for it. Although, the events itself didn't really connect to make a concise story.

I loved the animation. It was dark, creepy, and realistic. The mouth movements were incredibly smooth though they don't put much effort in facial expressions (especially Saya...). Still an excessive amount of blood - or whatever bodily fluids - but typically a horror film. The sound was also pretty high up there. With each footstep, it was very clear. I actually really enjoyed the sound aspect.

Saya needed some depth, lots of it. She didn't seem to change in character throughout the movie either. She's still kickass though! Her assertive (almost aggressive) demeanor was hilarious at times. Her to-the-point dialogue is seen in so many other anime, but it's still cool.

The story was not the only thing that was lacking. The music didn't seem to exist either. If only there were a cool rock beat to accompany the action sequences, I think I would have enjoyed myself much more.

I enjoyed my time with Blood: The Last Vampire, but it was mostly just visually entertaining.

It's only fair for me to write a review of the movie after watching it and since I am considering writing a review of the series. This movie is short and that lost a lot of points with me.

Animation: 9/10. Can't complain and it's probably the reason i continued to watch. The animation is drawn in a modern dark style. You will not see any generic typically drawn characters and the fights are relatively smooth.

Music: 5/10. There was a lack of music involvement in the movie. I did not feel any affect of music on the movie. Even the fight music was unnotable.

Story: 7/10 Why or why did the story have to be short and pointless. Why oh why did it have to be the typical bad ass girl with a big sword? There is a lack of a serious villan of worth. There is a lack of elaboration on what Saya is and worst of all... it's VERY SHORT for a movie. Was the animator relying on the fact that there are vampires in the movie to make it better than good? If so, then it failed.

Character: 5/10. Wow, where to begin to critique this. Saya was the typical girl in school uniform with a bad ass sword. Infact I am told she is a vampire, something I didn't even guess from the movie, how bad is that? Why does she care to kill other vampires? Her character showed no other potential other than wielding a sword, how disappointing for someone who is "last of her kind".

Overall, good watch to watch once.. but I find no appeal to watch it again, sadly.

Blood: The Last Vampire is a 45 minute movie from the highly acclaimed and recognized anime studio Production I.G./SPE Visual Works.

The story takes place in a US military facility located in Japan. As America begins to prepare for war ( Vietnam War ), a new problem begins to surface within the facility, vampires. Taking the form of human by day and turning into their demonic forms by night, these creatures have a taste for human blood. After the mysterious death of a school girl, a secret government agency dispatches two undercover agents and a very unique woman to the facility. The female, whose name is Saya, is the agency's secret weapon against the blood sucking creatures. Highly trained and skilled, she is last remaining

I've really enjoyed watching this. When I ordered it the synopsis on the site had given me a totally different idea than that it actually was. I thought I was buying a nice addition to my Anime DVD collection but it's probably one of the better ones I've bought so far. The drawing style is great and the story is quite original. I love the new touch they give on vampires as well, always been fascinated by vamps. They only thing that dissapointed me was it's shortness. But other then that a great movie,

I consider Blood: The Last Vampire to be pretty much a demo of Production IG's skills in mixing traditional animation with CG.
It is very short but fairly enjoyable. The main character is pretty much your usual vampire turned vampire hunter so no surprises here. However there's an interesting twist on vampires - they are much more monstrous than usual and a whole lot freakier.
Anyway, the story and characters are just tools for showing the cool visuals and they really are jaw-droppingly amazing! Same goes for the sound; the brilliant mix of calm music and freaky vampiric screams when the action gets going is definitely something to experience.
The end isn't satisfying, but there isn't much one can expect from a 40 minute short movie. It would have been cool if Production IG decided to further explore the story and the characters, but that doesn't really matter considering that there already are too many vampire animes floating around.

Story
*******
When an "accident" results in the death of a student at Yokota High School, near a U.S. base in Japan, an underground governmental organization sends in their top notch vampire slayer, Saya, who is also the "last original" vampire, presumably. Dressed in the typical Japanese schoolgirl uniform, Saya enters Yokota High and begins a desperate search for the bloodsucking fiends that threaten innocent humans.

Sights
*******
The graphics for this movie was handled extremely well. Very clear images. Character design was interesting, leaning more towards realistic. The demons were especially surprising.

Sounds
*******
Music was mysterious at times but was mostly fast because of all the action. The sound quality was a bit annoying with people speaking softly paired while extra sounds and music was booming. It was somewhat difficult to find a perfect spot to set and leave the volume.

Opinion
*******
Despite the amazing graphics this movie was weak in most of the other areas. The storyline existed but was only briefly built on. Characters were not really developed because of its short length. Favorite character was Saya. Even though there weren't too many people to choose from, Saya's pretty impressive. She's quiet most of the time but carries an air of certainty born of much experience, or so it seems, with handling the missions she's given. The ending was interesting but expected.

I agree with truant This movie is more like a trailor that "just ends." Not much is given to charecter devellopment, let alone a story. Actually the whole story is summed up on the back of the box - the only reason left to actaully watch the movie is for the excellent CGI and anime. Wonderfully animated, cool art, excellent style - NO STORY. Bummer. I should have spent my 6$ renting something else.
