Much better then some of the other animes that I have been watching lately. The Scrapped Princess is about this sheltered spoiled girl who is being targeted by kingdoms and gods. She has a very gentle heart and hates to see others suffering. Many times she wonders if her very existence is an abomination. Her protectors being her adopted older brother and sister.

The animation was very good. The music was as well.

The story was creative and enjoyable. The little bit of politics in it were not offensive to me. The cast of characters were in many ways refreshing and interesting. The villains were for the most part not really villains but people thinking they needed to protect the world their way. While there was greed and hatred portrayed there was little true evil portrayed. There was a lot of the old free will vs force control in the mythology. The villains thought that they knew better how to govern each person's life then they themselves did. They thought that humanity needed to be confined to protect them.

Each character had their own growth curve in the story. Events as well as character interaction caused changes in how the different characters perceived themselves and each other. There were no real static characters save those that did not last for more then an episode.

Overall I really enjoyed the show and I would and will recommend it to anyone who likes a good anime story.

Scrapped Princess is an interesting sort. It achieves its objective in being entertaining despite many flaws. The story feels like it came straight out of a role playing game. It also doesn't feel as if the author knew what the word medieval means as the anime, which is set in an era of damsels and knights, contains modern day Japanese furniture and appliances (Our heroine was using shampoo in a public bath). If Scrapped Princess has one factor that gives it the 7 it is the wonderful character Pacifica Casull whose performance keeps this weak anime together.

After watching Scrapped Princess I can empathize with the Japanese people when a play called The Mikado debuted. Scrapped Princess is not so much a fantasy tale that mixes medieval European and Japanese culture as it is a show featuring lots of cosplay characters in a role playing game. The characters look and dress European while everything else is practically a disguised version of a neighborhood in ancient Kyoto. Scrapped Princess is not racist and sexist like The Mikado but I cannot help feel the same cultural ignorance being exuded from the anime as it does from the play. I stress this point because this anime makes its ignorance in foreign culture so blatantly obvious when compared to others in its genre like Seirei no Moribito or Chevalier D'eon.

Another fault in the story is the lack of details about the cultures the characters are in. We know nothing about the Mauser faith. It bears a passing resemblance to the Catholic church hence some of the traditions can be understood but details about the customs and culture of the world Pacifica Casull, our heroine, inhabits were non-existent. The worst sin is the negligence of the St. Grendel prophecy. We should have seen how that prophecy works. Intimate knowledge of the prophecy is most important because it holds the key to understanding why our protagonist is being pursued in the first place. Without it the anime is an exercise in wasting time.

Pacifica Casull completely won me over with her charm. She has such a dominating presence in the show. The minute she steps on to the screen she will lure your eyes to her. She is spoiled and that part of her personality shines even further when she is willing to resort to physical force.

Ultimately, Scrapped Princess is entertaining. It's lighthearted fun and if you are willing to overlook the cultural mess then this anime can be a charming experience.

Hence 7/10

I loved this show. It's definitely in my own personal Top 20 animated features and series, though I thought that the animation could have been better considering the year it was made. The story... oh, the story was so rich and satisfying, though. It contained so much depth and so many plot devices, along with the humor, the drama, the emotions. I believe this is one of the few shows that could grasp my attention with such simple aspects. The colors throughout the show were very rich and diverse. I'm also partial to animated series that are set in a "Dark Ages" kind of canon just because it demands that the artists make use of natural colors and outdoor scenes. Even though some of the story line was somewhat out of step with the overall setting of the series, I feel that it blended in well and wasn't completely outrageous. I give this series an 8 out of 10; it's a must see for those who haven't already.

I'm giving this series a 10 even though the only part of this show that really rises above an 8 would be the rich plot. The animation, characters, music, etc were all good, but not 10's by themselves. What really makes it work is that everything works well together and then the plot pushes it above the sum of its parts.

It's hard to discuss the plot of this show without spoiling it, but let's just say I really really liked it and it carried the show for me. It starts off like any other "princess/prince on the run" story that's been done by shows from Serei no Moribito to Romeo x Juliet. But from there it takes off and goes in some very unexpected places. Near the middle of the series you'll start realizing that there's a much deeper philosophical side to the anime than you realized.

The plot is very fast paced. I thought there was enough storyline to spread across 2 or more seasons. Sections like the Pamela arc could definitely have been expounded on with more episodes than were used.

The large amount of plot doesn't leave the story feeling too rushed, however. To me, it felt like a very enjoyable fast pace for the show.

The characters were all fairly good. Some of the side characters weren't developed as much and there was one character I found particularly annoying (Leo). I really liked Shannon-nii even though he was a little too gruff at times. In the beginning you can sense that he's not entirely sure if protecting Pacifica is even the right thing to do and throughout the series you see him develop as he sorts out his own internal feelings on why he's doing what he's doing.

I liked that the ending gave closure to the story, even if perhaps not all the issues had been perfectly resolved.

Oh, and I have to mention that this show has the coolest capes and mantles of any show I've seen. I loved the medieval/futuristic designs used throughout.

I've read a review that said the whole concept of Scrapped Princess is unrealistic.

I agree and disagree with that statement.

I do think the concept of Scrapped Princess if unrealistic. However, I don't think running away in more casual fashion is that unrealistic.

The story goes that the princess is on a journey to escape the nation because everyone in the nation besides her brother and sister wants her dead. Considering it has very medieval setting, I think this is realistic because tracking her down and knowing how exactly she look like is not well informed by many with such technology. Anime do show enough blond women with blue eyes to show that it isn't that uncommon, so to be moving in rather casual fashion doesn't seem that unrealistic.

The characters do seem relaxed too much for people who are running away from the dangers of death, but the swords skills of the brother and magical abilities of the sister does make it seem like they can afford to be not as desperate to escape. And considering it is long journey, after some time the people are bound to be less edgy as their journey continues and becomes more of a routine.

What I do think is unrealistic is every solider or army that is after the princess is small numbers. When the king is so paranoid and wants her death, I don't think they would send one person to fight against three. Logically you would think that if one person finds the target, they would bring massive number of soldiers to ensure the job will get done.

However, considering the plot and scheme involved, the not as intense pursuit of the princess might not be that unrealistic as well. Still, it is pushing it quite a bit.

Anyway let's get into more details of Scrapped Princess.

First visually, Scrapped Princess is quite a feast. I find the art style very similar to Chrono Crusade. Even main character personality and looks match quite a bit. Unfortunately, the action sequence is not that impressive nor exciting until later on when it becomes more fantasy type action, but even then the action remains unimpressive compared to other fantastic action anime such as Naruto.

The music is done fairly well and voice acting for some characters are done well, but they don't stand out compared to many anime that has excellent voice acting like Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. I haven't watched it in English dub, but if you are anime fan, you wouldn't be watching anime in English dub in the first place so it don't matter.

The plot does remain very interesting as long as you can overlook minor unrealistic situation. The concept of kawaii princess with bright personality and good heart being hated and chased by others for her dear life is very interesting concept, and learning why she is being chased remains interesting for you to want more. Also the mixture of medieval setting with magical and scientific world has been done better than most anime with similar setting to the point it is believable. Also it has good pacing of the plot progression and good balance of serious talks and humor. However, like previous reviewer mentioned, this series would've been MUCH better if they had ecchi character instead of goody goody knight wannabe. Ecchi jokes aren't present which is also very similar to Chrono Crusade.

In the end, Scrapped Princess ends up being very entertaining anime while having good theme to make you think. With excellent pacing and unique concept, it is very interesting anime to watch and it is a very enjoyable anime to watch. As long as you can keep yourself from nitpicking all the minor details and how unrealistic it is, you will enjoy this anime very much. The emotional progression, the plot progression, the character development, and just about everything in this anime has been done very well to be able to keep you satisfy you from beginning to the end, which often is problem with anime series. Too often you experience anime that has strong start but ending with a whimper, but Scrapped Princess manages to avoid such result and chances are, this anime will entertain and please you to the end.

A very enjoyable anime, thats for sure. Scrapped Princess is not the typical show about how a bunch of teens/young adults and how they save the world, but rather about how they are running away since prophesy says that one of them is going to be the cause of the end of the world. All the characters have great personality and the story was pretty good.

Story
It was prophesied from the church of Mauser, that the girl of the twins born from the King and Queen will be the poison that will destroy the world [later known as the Scrapped Princess]. So, as a baby, she was chucked off a cliff and everyone thought that was that. But another family found her and adopted her into their family. They named her Pacifica. Even after learning that she was the Scrapped Princess, her adopted brother and sister just wander around just trying to run away from pursuers. As they go around, they meet new friends, enemies, and also some facts about the revelation that cursed her. What really is happening and how is she actually going to destroy the world?

Animation/Artwork
The animation isn't the best, but isnt the worst either. The fighting scenes are pretty fluid and are worth watching. Only problem is how little fighting there is in this series. Shannon [Onii-chan] and Raquel [Onee-chan] have great powers, yet they rarely use them at all. And the times you do see good fighting, it often cuts to somewhere else, breaking the flow. Dragons fighting Peacemakers are pretty cool since there isn't any recycled animation, but deaths often come from nowhere. Artwork is also pretty good and the characters fit their personalities.

Characters
The characters all have good personalities, with none that are particularly annoying. Only problem is how little backstory is given on most of the characters. You know nearly nothing on the Special forces squad except for the fact that Chris was in it since he was a kid. Leo only mentions he's the Baron's son, and the fact really doesnt have a impact on the story at all. But I liked the personalities and the fact that almost all the characters have some impact on the story. I like how, despite being done with the musician, the story included him lounging around later on. Heck, he even helps save the main characters a few times.

Sound/Music
Okay. Nothing I'd listen to on my music player though. They might not be that great, but they do get stuck in my head, I guess thats got to count for something. Sound effects were fine and the voices matched their characters.

Overall
I enjoyed the story and it had a good ending, though it seemed a little rushed to me. Pacifica's whining about how she is so sorry that shes alive and how she is the cause of all this damage. It gets somewhat annoying since this occurs a lot. But that doesn't hinder the overall flow too much and she eventually stops doing it so much.

Oh yah, Soopie-kun is cool. I love how Leo carries it around with him...

It has awesome graphics, scenary, decent sound effect and awesome character designs. But I don't like this anime at all. It's very rare for me to dislike anime with above average animation going on, but the story fell apart, and characters acting weren't really reflecting the situation they were in.

The way this anime progress, is they keep throwing in new characters to keep the story going, except the main heroine and two support characters who plays the sister and brother role in the story.

Despite the heroine acting like a spoiled ojou san all the time, despite the fact they are chased, without much money.. let's just say she is beyond the stage to be shocked, and doesn't care anymore. What's with her "sister" and "brother" acting passive all the time?
They were given the role to protect her, I get that, but other than her brother whining here and there, they dont seem to act like a normal person would. I'd actually be a bit convinced if they had some sort of plan and made decision to fix the situation rather than run away until the fated day comes. All they do is just travel aimlessly while their world might be destroyed by their action. They are not one bit concerned about the fact either. With that reason not specified, their efforts and sacrifice the sub characters made to protect our spoiled brat seem to go waste without making much of an impression.

I just couldn't stop feeling annoyed at their thoughtless and irresponsible journey in order to achieve who knows what. If the story is that bad, at least give us some fan service or intense fighting scenes. Oh I know, replace that goodie goodie knight with a pervy rogue, that would actually make it least bit interesting.

Review based on all 24 Japanese Subtitled Episodes...

ANIMATION: The art quality of Scrapped Princess is quite on par with other titles released during the new millennium. Use of both dark and bright colors is well-blended, backgrounds are nicely illustrated, and fluidity of motion is attractive. Since there are some scenes of magic-use and other special effects, the artists were able to expand their creativity a bit and bring us some beautifully drawn sequences. (10/10)

MUSIC: The opening theme, "Little Wing," while deserving of its merits, can get a little irritating at times. It fits the mood and style of the series perfectly and heard once in a while can be perfect start to each episode, but once you've heard it a dozen or so times, you may find yourself hitting the chapter-skip button. As for the ending song, "Daichi no La-Li-La," it's pretty much the same story. In-episode music was fitting and appropriate for the series as well, incorporating a lot of the stylistic sounds one would associate with a series featuring characters and a setting of the time era (1400s? 1500s? I dunno). (8/10)

CHARACTERS: The cast of Scrapped Princess is enormously huge. There are a nearly half a dozen different groups and organizations and each of those is made up of at least four or five members. It seems for a while that new characters are being added in with each and every episode. By the time we reached the halfway point, we're having to keep tabs on about twenty, maybe thirty different people. I still couldn't tell you the names of anyone outside the main little grouping of travelers. Aside from size though, the main cast is very well explored and personality is defined in nice form. The artstyle of the character design is very attractive, especially the clothing and hair. (8/10)

STORY: An interesting story, I'll give you that. I was looking for a good medieval-themed series right around the time this series became available and luckily enough for me, it was perfect for what I was looking for. I liked the magic aspects as well, but the sci-fi elements kinda disappointed me. I was looking for something more true to the reality of the era, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it anyway. The basic story of the Princess who was prophetized to destroy mankind and her escaping her persuers with the help of her brother and sister is intriguing, exciting, and interesting. The elements of all the different sects and other bodies struggling for power and tying in the elements of their own agendas just made my head spin. Again, it's enjoyable, but requires a lot of attention to be paid to certain aspects. (8/10)

OVERALL: If you're looking for a recent anime that is situated in olden days and/or a series that involves a small group of travelers heading out on a journey, then Scrapped Princess will meet your needs. There is plenty of action, drama, fantasy, and comedy to please the most fickle anime fans. Probably the most prominent characteristic of this series is the sense of family it instills. The group, even with added people who are not related, all form a tight-knit bond and it shows whenever one of them is threatened. There certainly is a dedication and duty present, as well as love, shared amongst them all. And also, most viewers, like with most other series, will develop a liking to one or a few of the characters. I personally liked Raquel the most since I'm a fan of those who can use magic. Rewatchability factor is moderate to high, depending on how well you understood and enjoyed the series the first time around. (8/10... 4 stars)

This is the first anime I've watched in English ('cause I am french).

I really loved that story, it is a good balance between humoristic situations - almost SD (Super Deformed) - and a real story that we have only a glimpse at the start. It starts quite innocently 'till the first kidnapping try... that happens quite early.

Characters are really well made, the princess Pacifica Casull is really lovely, Raquell is beautiful too (but how does she manage to keep smiling with all she's been through, she is sure an optimistic person), Shannon is always squabbling with Pacifica and sometimes smiles. Leo is well drawn too, it shows well that he is a clumsy knight potentially powerful. To cut through, all characters are really credible, and we believe in what they are and what they do.

Places are varied and magnificent, I especially loved those designed in second part, even if it is more darker in the atmosphere theme.

The music is good, but I gave a jump out of my chair when I first heard the opening theme : I am pretty sure to have listened that song before. Can anyone tell me? It is not common to hear for the first time a theme and having that impression...

All of the other songs are OK, whatever it is atmosphere songs or action songs.

Important thing : the second half of SP is the best, the one that made me love that serie ; if you think the beginning episodes are not of a real interest, please stay tuned ! The best is to come. Many little stories come crossing the great one, the other one that made me feel that is Trigun that I love too. The best way to tell it is that the first part of SP sets the background and the second sees the story unfold. All characters are shattered, and pacifica will live a strange adventure on her own, but I won't tell more, you should see it to appreciate it.

I would have put a 10 if only the story of Raquell and Shannon was a little more developed, they have huge powers but we don't know anything else about them, neither why they were forced to leave their hometown, that's a little sad...

I strongly advise you not to miss that anime, it is from Bones Studio, the one who made "Full Metal Alchemist" recently.

It's very sad to see great potential fall apart. To me, this anime is an example of how a good design can become a borning story. Details.

Art: 9/10. Awesome scenery, great color selection and WELL DONE DETAIL. Sadly, fights are flash styles and that was the only downfall of the animation art.

Music/Sound: 8/10. Above average but nothing to write home about. Ending and opening were pretty average.

Story: 6/10. What happened here? This post apocolyptic setting was great. there was a heavy combination of magic and sword and yet the story went no where. Basically the main character, who is supposed to be powerful potentially aspired to nothing and saved the world by being.... cute? There was several fillers but not too overbearing, however, the lack of a direction made them even more visible.

Characters: 6/10. I have insanely big beefs with the characters. Most of them act unrealistically with their emotion and self-esteem or motivation bouncing back and forth. Seriously, this anime suffers from unrealistic connections between the scrapped princess, her brother and sister and the rest of her admirers. Worse, the main character did not grow... ZIP.. nothing....

Overall, a heavy disappointment.... nothing to write home about.

This anime is a fantasy anime, sort of. Science fiction. I loved this anime mainly because it was so pleasent to watch, the story ran smoothly and everything was just lovely. (i love the scrapped princess D:)

Music - at first I hated it and found it childish but started to have a like for it... I'm now even trying to find the ending but never suceed at it. Background music was great too, loved it.

Drawings - it's well drawn, I liked it a lot. Women don't have overgrown tits, that I missed. Nevertheless it's not like this is an harem anime! it's science fiction so tits aren't important.

Fighting scenes - they weren't good like Karas or Samurai Champloo, they were just decent. You didn't see blood all over the place like Basilisk ethier. Fights were decent and you could even watch it with your child! Lol..

Story - the story ran smoothly throughout this great anime. it wasn't too complicated and it never became too hard to get. In the end everything sums up, like in episode 16 you start realizing stuff they don't say, which I found interesting. Mainly, if you watch this you gotta think while you watch it. Not just run through images and listen to japanese words whil reading subtittles.

In conclusion, this anime is pleasent & lovely. clean and isn't too bloody. I would recommend this anime to anyone out there.

If you liked Tsubasa Chronicles you might like this. If you liked trinity blood you might like this (trinity blood is kinda hard to get until everything becomes understanable in the couple of last episodes.)

This was the first fantasy anime I watched, and it was a pretty satisfying anime.

The story is about a girl that will bring destruction to the world on her 16 birthday, so before she turns 16 everyone tries to kill her, but no need to worry cause sibling power comes into place, yes her step brother and step sister protect her every single time. It had a interesting story; the thing I did not like about it was although it seemed more of a 'sword' type of anime, most of the action was done by mecha. The show had a good enough ending for me to like it, and the last few episodes were quite entertaining.

I thought the music to this anime was just horrible- I always skipped the ending and opening theme 'cause it was quite annoying and childish music.

This show had great animation, had no flaws, some of the cg was nicely done.

Overall besides the music, this show was a solid series to watch, it is the first fantasy anime i watched, and i was quite entertained by it. You can see some of the characters can change through out the show, which was nice to watch. Yes this is a good show to watch.

First I'd like to say something:
When you continue to watch this anime you will find out that the anime is somewhat wired. It's about a very high tech civilization turning into a primitive civilization.

Now for the review...he anime, as most people know, is about a girl name Pacifica being prophecised that she will destroy the world she is living in. In any case, people get frightened and try all they can to kill her. The people who want to kill her worship some kind of god call the peacemakers who have very destructive powers. Then there is the people who protect Pacifica, they call themselves her brother and sister, the brother, Shannon, is a very skilled swordsman. The sister, Raquel, is a very powerful magician who can cast powerful spells but she dosen't get to use them much. But there is also a powerful ally, her name is Zefris and she is a Dragoon (seems to be some kind of weapon).

Story: the stroy is okay but there is one thing that I find weird. A very high tech civilization being crushed and became a very primative civilization (dosen't it seem familiar).

Character: the characters are well drawn and U especially like Zefris because she is so cool, and cute too!

music: the opening song is not that good, but still ok. The ending song is very catchy and you will love it the more you listen to it.

Overall: the anime is great, but I give it a 7/10 stars just because I don't quite like the ending of the anime (you will know why when you watch the ending). But hope you guys will enjoy the anime as well.

AnimeNfo ranks this anime in their top 10 list and I would have to agree . This anime is truly one of those gems that you have to watch no matter what . Scrapped princess will constantly leave you waiting for the next episode to come out as soon as you finish watching one .

Characters: What can I say when you have an onee-san figure, a childish adolescent figure, and a an all in one leetox older brother who's sluggish behaviour just leaves you warm and fuzzy inside. UBER!

Sound: Though I don't recall anything fancy in the sound portion of this anime, I would still have to say that there wasn't anything particularly bad . It had music where there needed to be music and nothing was ever out of place or made you flinch in pain

Animation: Superb! The fight scenes, the magic spells and characters were all drawn beautifully. Though most of the colours on each character was always dull brownish or blackish blue, or zefiris' pale purplish thingamajig outfit, I still enjoyed it watching and never felt that anything was too plain.

Storyline: one of those anime that doesn't have simplicity but an actual plot and great finish. I just wish most anime would follow Scrapped Princess style of storyflow.

Give it a well deserved 9 !

I really don't see what's with all the high reviews Scrapped Princess I've been reading all over the place. It's a good series with a solid premise, but nothing fantastic. It's not as generic as other series I've seen, but nothing truly spectacular happens and the action is boring when it does make a rare appearance. The characters are okay, Shannon in particular is pretty cool, but there's no real depth to any of the characters. The story takes a long time to get going, and when it finally starts to get interesting, it doesn't reach the potential it has laid out by the end. So check it out if you are dying for some fantasy, but this series doesn't hold a candle to other superior fantasy series like Escaflowne or Berserk
