I personally thought it was really good. For a kid's anime. But I'm really surprised it's categorized as shotacon Oo' But this is a little kid's anime so it shouldn't be shotacon 'cause this is a little kid's anime and it would be normal for someone to have an attraction to someone his or her age...? Whatever, here's my review:
Opening theme and ending:
They're nice songs and all, but it's be better if they swapped them around. Because the opening theme gives off a softer and ending-ish feeling while the ending theme gives off a jolt that opening themes usually give off. But they are good songs overall.
Characters:
Hmmm... Mayura's personality's pretty orginal. *ahem* "FUSHIGI MISUTARI!!!" @w@ Haven't seen a character like that so far. Yamino's personality is pretty orginal too... Obsessed with mail orders... *cracks up* Fenir is also a cool character. Narugami's frequent job hunt makes the story funny... And last but not least, Loki is just... a calm and cool character. Optional for this anime! XD But I thought in the 1999 edition of the manga, Loki's personality was funnier and cooler... So I think the characters are fine. But... Ecchan is awesome and epic :3 "PUNYAAAN~"
Plot:
The Norse Mythology twist was a nice one. You don't find many anime with mythology [off the top of my head I can only think of Kamichama Karin] in it. So I think that was cool. And yes, Loki would always figure everything out... But this is a kid's anime in Japan. When I was little, my friends and I would hate it if the main character would lose. So that kinda explains it. Also, I didn't really like how Loki's daughter [I forgot her name, sorry...] just suddenly appeared and then just disappeared. Usually there has to be a better reason for her to appear [not just because she misses her dad and is lonely]. Also, the story ended too fast. And, the ending made the viewers think there is a second season when there isn't one. That wasn't very pleasant for us fans. But the good part is that this anime would cheer you up when you're bored and can't find anything to watch. Plus, Detective Loki is also a good anime to buy. First, the plot does not expand more than one episode [besides the last few episodes] so you can just plop in a DVD and watch without wondering what happened before. Second, you never know when you have to babysit a little kid. So when you babysit a hard to take care of kid, just throw in this DVD and make the kid watch it. But one thought... Doesn't the "an adult turned into a kid then solves mysteries" remind you somewhat of Detective Conan...?
Etc.
The sound effects are nice and fitting... The animation is good... The voice actors' voices are fine... I guess that's it. I reccomend you watch this.

This anime was very enjoyable to watch. At first, I saw it dubbed in Anime Network on Demand, but I wanted to watch the real thing. Not to pull some tight strings, but I didn't really like the reviews below me, not just because they gave it a low score.
I'm reviewing this anime for an anime, not for "Norse Mythology." I didn't even know what it was until I watched this. The person below me is probably true to his/her word, as he/she has done her/his research, but simply learning about it was great in this anime.
I believe a review should be about an anime as a whole, not for some small details, since this one didn't pull Norse Mythology to its "full extent."
Moving on, I give music a 10.
I highly enjoyed the OP/ED songs. They just gave it a mysterious feel to it, and I was glad to watch the ED through the whole end.
I gave plot an 8.
Story is highly enjoyable, but yes, it's slightly repetitive in a way. I didn't really like the end either. But still, it's very funny.
I gave animations a 10.
There has not been a slacking worker who has stayed up late one day and screwed up the entire project. Animations were pretty much perfect. There was no poor job done anywhere (at least in my eyes).
I gave characters a 10.
There will always be a character you love in this anime. There's a wide selection, so you'll get attached to at least one. It gives it a chocolate fudge topping when you find out they're all Norse Gods.
Overall, I gave this anime a 9. Please; don't judge the anime from it's information of Norse Mythology. It's anime. It's supposed to please you, not have you say, "IT'S NOT EVEN LIKE NORSE MYTHOLOGY, THIS IS BULL!"
HAVE FUN WATCHING ! You won't regret it (until the end hehe).

For some odd reason, Animes/ mangas based on Norse Mythology always disappoints me. Ah! My goddess for example, and Ragnarok the manga by Myung Jin Lee. I actually had high hopes for this one, but that didn't come out to well either.
Music:
I'd say the music is decent. It's not too bad and fits the scenes pretty well. Also the opening and ending theme are pretty good.
Characters:
This is where it gets really brain wracking. After studying Norse Mythology I just couldn't understand how these characters even fit the great gods.
-Loki is no mischief god but some half pint detective whose actually a good kid. And for some reason he has the answer to EVERYTHING. The know-it-all facade is kinda... annoying.
-Fenrir- THE Great Fenrir wolf is a loud mouth bratty dog.
-Yamino, the legendary Midgard Srmr is a house keeper, neat freak with a pretty face.
-Hel is a school girl.
- And lastly Thor is a loser that needs a FULL time job for once.
Wow, huge let down. It's like they tried to hard to make them funny, that they became sad.
-Story-
It went EVERYWHERE, good thing it was only 26 episodes. Fillers plagued it, and the episodes were repetitive. Not much more to say.
This anime was a huge dissapointment. I'd say watch it for the cutesy-ness and the humor, but if you want some solid Norse Mythology, then you won't find it here. And WHERE'S THE MISCHIEF? Odin makes a better Loki than LOKI does! Oh the Humanity!

I loved it! I watched the anime before reading the manga, and I'm glad I did, so that the sub-plots within the manga didn't overshadow the great things about the anime version. The anime is pretty much all family-friendly. The art is great, and it's easy to get hooked. It stayed true to the art in the manga, which was beyond amazing! The detailed art of the anime was what got me interested in the first place; definitely a 10/10.
The music: I don't recall the specific background songs being all that spectacular, but the opening theme, "Rakuen no Tobira," is very fitting for the story, and the images that come up during the opening (like the scene with the wings and Mayura in the boat) are great. The same can be said for the ending theme, "Believe in Heaven", for which the images are even better than the ones in the opening. The scene with the moon and adult Loki with the red is breath-taking! The song is sung by Shinichirou Miki, who also plays Yamino within the anime, which to me was a plus! Definitely some catchy songs, although they do tend to get tediously stuck in your head to a point where it seems like too much...and for that reason I'd give the "music" of the anime a 8.5/10.
The anime only has 26 episodes, which really doesn't seem that long if you get into the characters enough to want to see more sides of them. The story integrates some interesting aspects of Norse mythology, and some of the references it makes becomes really interesting once you find out a few things about Norse mythology (google was a big help). Overall I think they did a pretty good job of making an interesting story out of mythological god/goddess-figures. An 8/10, in my opinion.
Although some confusing parts of the story were left unexplained in the series, the development of each character was great. The transformation of the stoic Norse gods and goddesses into characters with little quirks definitely drew me in. For example, Thor's character in the anime is hilarious because of his strange obsession with holding multiple part-time jobs in order to buy himself food (a.k.a. instant cup noodles), and he often invades Loki's mansion because the food is free. The friendship that develops between the two is an interesting one, but it's these little details that made the anime worth watching. A definite 10/10.
So basically, the outcome after watching the whole series in two days was that I grew to LOVE the characters, even though the storyline in which they were trapped was sort of mediocre. Hope this review was helpful!

Quite an interesting story base on Norse mythology. I am personally a big fan of mythologies although in the beginning when I watched this anime I did not know much about Norse mythology but the story turned out pretty good with an appealing plot.
The story contains many mysteries but it’s not really that mysterious because the Gods or evil sprites cause them. Also, like many other mythologies, there are romance between god and morals, but instead of the romance in the heaven, it takes place on earth. The conflict between the Gods really creates somewhat of a suspense make you wonder what’s going to happens next is Loki going to be ok? The magical power of the Gods where fairly appealing such as their weapons, spells and curses. The story also reflects the Gods to humans and how they are very alike. Such as pride, jealousy, and many other human emotions that cause human to fight each other as well as Gods fighting against each other.
The characters are incredibly funny, well drawn, and very likeable. Loki seems to be wise and knows about almost everything. The story was really good and interesting because it created a twist on Norse mythology. Loki was supposedly an evil or trickster god but this anime turned him into a cute boy and a cool looking guy (in his adult form). Thor is a poor workaholic; Loki’s children are very hilarious and loyal which I find very cool and many other Gods that came to earth has his or her own unique feature. I was really surprise in the end because according to Norse mythology Ragnarok was suppose to happen but the story created a different kind of ending where Loki did not decide to go though with ragnarok and lived on earth. Although this kind of ending is not what I expected but I kinda hope there is another season where Loki would be more involve with Odin. Anyway, from my opinion the ending was still very good because it follow the story line where Loki is characterized as a good God and do not wish to cause Ragnarok which will destroy and reborn the world.
The anime is worth watching and it's very cute, funny, and light-hearted with good animations and the voice acting is really good too especially Loki’s 1st son. Although the ending was not what I expected to be. Overall the anime is still very good. So, if you're a mythology fan like me, you should definitely watch this.

This anime is quite "cute".
The plot started out nice, but it got repetitive. The only thing that pushed me to continue watching was the comedy, but even that has a bad side, as it tends to get childish - even worse than Card Captor Sakura (which is MUCH better when it comes to comedy and plot, although as repetitive as this one).
The characters are cute too, no other way to describe them. Some are cooler and should be given credit, like Yamino and adorable little Fenrir. I especially like them when they change forms. I'd expect Loki to be more naughty, being the God of Mischief and all, but how I've seen him handle women, maybe the title isn't so unfit as I thought it was. The way he summons his Levia thing, what's up with that dog? He reminds me of Sailor Moon! What's with all the theatrics? He's a MAN, for goodness sake! And the gods! considering they are GODS, they seem pretty weak and stupid. They're too human, for beings who've lived a thousand years or more.
The music was awesome though, especially the opening song. Animation: character designs could have been better, but they were done cute enough.
Although watching is fun, you wouldn't want to watch this again, as the humor can only get you once.

Matantei Loki Ragnarok (Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok)
Rate: 6/10
Another anime seires about mysteries and comedy. Quite interesting.
Here comes Mayura Daidoji, a girl who's obsessed with mysteries and supernaturals. One day, Mayura accidently stumbles on an old doll. This is not an ordinary doll, it talks! But after that, the doll disappears. In order to find the doll, Mayura calls the detective agency that specializes in unusual and weird cases. Loki, a grade school-looking boy, is the owner of the agency. He is the Norse God of Trickery, but he is excile by Odin (the ruler of the Gods) from the world of Gods after playing a terrible joke. In order to get back to the world of Gods, Loki has to gather enough souls of evil creatures. So, the bonds between Loki and Mayura are formed, and the story begins.
Good sides:
-Interesting story.
-Good musics.
Bad sides:
-Similar stories, repeats often.
-Childish.
Matantei Loki Ragnarok is quite an interesting anime series. The drawbacks are that it is a bit childish in a certain way, and the graphics aren't totally great. It's worth to watch it though. Just enjoy it.
Matantei Loki Ragnarok should be better!!!

A FUNNY TAKE ON NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Mayura Daidoji is a mystery obsessed girl whom constantly looks for the supernatural. One day, she stumbles on a talking doll. The awestruck Mayura takes the doll home and soon after, the doll disappears. Loosing the only evidence of the paranormal, she calls the help of a detective agency that specializes in unusual cases. Little does she know that the detective running the agency is actually Loki, an exiled Norse God taking the form of a young boy. Why is Loki banished from the heavens? Why do other Gods taking the forms of high school students and cute girls want to kill Loki? Why does Odin (the ruler of the Gods) wants Loki to be killed? Is the coming of Ragnarok causing all these questions? What will happen if Mayura discovers Loki's secret? Is after watching all 26 episodes gonna answer all of the questions? With the aid of his loyal partner Yamino-kun, they set out to uncover the mystery.
Matantei Loki RAGNAROK is one of those animes who has a unique setting but failed to make most out of it. Where can you find an anime who has a funny take on Norse Mythology? As the synopsis suggests, the plot revolves around an exiled God solving paranormal cases in hopes of finding clues on why Odin banished and tries to kill him. At first, I thought it was a detective story and after watching episode 1, this series is more of a funny anime and more or less nothing dark it is based from. Each episode deals on Loki solving generic puzzles, fight monsters, meeting other Gods and watch them interact in funny ways. Though certain episode focuses on the main story, others are fillers just to expand this series to 26. On the bright side though, some of these episodes are needed for developing the characters and nothing more than a barrel of laughs. Speaking of comedy, this is the best part of this anime. I can guarantee that most episodes will leave a smile on your face.
Somehow, this anime soothed my mood. Maybe because this anime is like a delicious dessert after eating the main courses. What I'm trying to say that RAGNAROK is a light-hearted choice after watching philosophical-ridden, teen-angst-driven, occult-bearing, love-torn, emotionally charged anime series.
Characterization is very good. All of the characters are given sufficient depth and all of them are very likable. I really adore the characters, especially the Norse Gods, they make this series worthwhile and you'll feel its magic. There's the workaholic Thunder God Thor, The beautiful Norns (Verdandi, Skuld and Urd), The cute and seductive Freya, her equally funny brother Frey and my personal favorite, Mayura, the mystery-obsessed girl.
The music is good. Haunting, magical, cute and rocks. None of the music is out of place and they are just good to hear. My best music is the haunting type; it's very spooky to hear. I also love the opening and ending themes.
For the art and animation, I have no complaints in this department and the designs are just beautiful. The characters looked so good that I actually fell in love with the girls. Personally, I find Mayura, Hel, Freya, Leila and Skuld so damn cute! My favorite part of this series is when Mayura changes costumes that fit the scene. She dresses as a tour guide, waitress, policewoman etc., It's amusing to watch. Action you say? I find the action generic. I've been picky on action lately since my chaotic incident on Samurai Deeper Kyo. If you watched SDK's action sequences, you can easily guess what type of action Matantei Loki RAGNAROK has. I'll make an exception this time; I will give the action an OK. It fits the light-hearted content of RAGNAROK compared to the serious content on SDK.
I think I've covered all of the good parts, now on to the bad. The filler episodes are just one of the problems. I would like it if the filler episodes contain some bits of information on the plot to keep me intrigued and will encourage me to watch continuously. I was really disappointed, after each episode, I often asked myself, "where is the plot?" Second is the ending, when the mystery starts to reveal itself and Verdandi finally quotes "We'll soon find out what is causing Ragnarok", the series stops cold without answering the questions. I screamed "WHAT THE FU**!" I checked my video store if I missed an episode; sadly, the series really ends on 26. I will have to blame the filler episodes for "filling" RAGNAROK and squeezing out the conclusion. The only part of the ending I enjoyed is the fact that Odin is very cute. I hope they should make a 4-episode OVA or a 2nd season to conclude RAGNAROK. "Oh, Odin, answer my prayer, show me a sign."
All in all, Matantei Loki RAGNAROK is a light-hearted, inconclusive, magical and an enjoyable series to waste few hours on your weekend. And for those who hate abrupt endings, avoid this anime at all cost.
My Score:
7 points (3.5 stars)
+ Good story line
+ The Gods are just cool
+ Good characters
+ Beautiful character designs
+ Good music
+ Very good humor
- Filler episodes
- The ending
- Needs an OVA or a 2nd season
*Fushigii no Mystery!*
General Score:
7 points (3.5 stars)
+ Good story line
+ The Gods are just cool
+ Good characters
+ Beautiful character designs
+ Good music
+ Very good humor
- Filler episodes
- The ending
- Needs an OVA or a 2nd season

Loki is a lighthearted show, and a nice way to kill time. The anime's unique take on Norse mythology (especially Thor IMO) is pretty cool.
However, the plot for the show seems *very* meandering, and a lot of the episodes are straight filler. Definately not a 5 Star calibur show, but still something that is mildly enjoyable.

Matantei Loki Ragnarok is a light mystery, detective series based on Norse mythology. Loki, a mischievious god, was expelled from the realm of the gods and is now running a detective agency in the form of a young boy. He gets help from a mystery-obsessed high school girl named Mayura, and Loki's personal assistant, Yamino-kun. Things get interesting when one by one, the gods started appearing (as highschool students or kids ^^) with the order from the god Odin to kill Loki. There's action, comedy, cuteness, and magic. This is not as serious or dark as the mythology it is based from. It really is a fun series to watch. I thought the first episode was a bit freaky..dolls are kinda creepy sometimes >_> The op/ed are awesome. I love this series. [last episode seen when review was submitted: 12]

This anime is really good and I enjoyed watching it very much. It is about these gods (based on a mythology - forgot where it is from) that descended to earth because of Odin's (the ruler of gods) orders. Loki is one of the god that got banished to earth and Odin wanted to kill Loki and he sent gods to earth to kill him. This anime involved many things such as comedy, love, mystery and magic. I think this anime is very interesting. I highly recommend it!
