It is probably best to watch the first Happy Lesson series before "Advance". "Advance" has pretty much the same crew as the first, with the addition of one interesting character. The creators seemed to try to put more plot into this series, which isn't a huge draw here. But Nagatsuki's appearance does add somewhat to the "Orphans struggling to make it in the world" theme which I like, and adds to the caring in the show, which is nice. And this also adds another person to the mix who tries to give Chitose grief, and sometimes in actually serious ways, which again is not a huge draw.
Of course, the big draw is the Mamas' antics, which continue from the first series. I think I might have had a few more laughs in the first series, but the laughs here coupled with a little more appealing setimentality thanks to Nagatsuki made "Advance" enjoyable.
The artwork was again cute and appealing. I actually liked the soundtrack music a little better than in the first series, and considered picking it up, but have had no luck finding it. 8 out of 10. Four STARS. If you liked the first, get this one too.

Happy Lesson Advance was an improvement to its prequel, but not much so.
Animation: It's more colorful and it's better than the first series. It's very clear and flowing but the style makes some characters look alike.
Storyline: There's not really much storyline. Rather, it's a bunch of random episodes again with some comedy mixed in. The storyline didn't really emphasize anything except that all the characters are a happy "family" (yeah... who'd want that many moms?) and deals with the main character's problems. There were a few funny episodes, but the lack of storyline isn't really too good for an anime, especially if it's a series. They don't really include anything new and interesting except a character, and there was hardly an ending.
Characters: They are the extremely weird cast of Happy Lesson. Their personalities make them seem like dolls as there's hardly anything special about them except their weirdness. However, the addition of the new character was a definite plus. There was actually a bit of character development and made the series interesting. Interactinos were pretty ordinary and expectable.
Also, they may seem even more confusing if you haven't watched the first season.
Sounds/Music: Mediocre. Nothing really stands out, and it's rather annoying to listen to.
Conclusion: Watch this only if you liked the first Happy Lesson.

You *should* watch Happy Lesson before you watch Advance as there is a brief introduction in the beginning but you won't know much about the characters or what they've been through in the first season.
On starting Advance, I was thinking to myself... 'Oh great.... another character!' But boy did the story turn around here with the introduction of a new character. I'm just going to say this new character... probably half for comedy/fanservice... half for story was a nice addition and helped the story go a bit. Back are the old crew from the first season as well.
The stories themselves? They haven't improved much... but couple episodes were just hilarious so i don't really mind. In my opinion Advance was much more entertaining... (more fanservice as well!) than the first season.
Animation was improved and music is still medicore, but funny situations is what this series is about so the rating for this is 7/10. A bit better from the first season, its a shame that the new character didn't do more interaction with the rest of the family.... maybe a third season or oav special? heh

I havn't seen Happy Lesson yet, but Happy Lesson Advance resulted in pretty mushy yet insignificant things. The beginning seems to be going well with the constant comedy and expression of each character. But then in the middle it lures into some fanservice and partial nudity - for what? I don't even want to speak of the end. They just constantly have these "problems" a family would have, the anime makes it very suspensful - but I don't think it's that big deal of a problem. Another thing, there were alot of characters introduced even though they were all the main characters - the teachers.
All in all, Happy Lesson Advance was fun to watch nothing to get excited about though. It's one of those light-hearted comedy animes you watch just for a little giggle. This series sort of reminded me of Love Hina, guys constantly getting punched into the air, which is not very amusing. What I did like though was the introduction and ending song, and the crisp animation - very well done. (What's with the little chicks though?)
