Space Pirate Captain Harlock Outside Legenf is a reintroduction of a classic character for a newer generation, with a character whose very name could replace "Hero" in Webster's dictionary.
The story begins with a new threat appearing to threaten the universe, and Captain Harlock stands up to challenge this evil. The Captain does not just oppose an enemy, he does it in a way few could even believe. Even at one point a foe holds Harlock's life literally in it's hands. And Harlock does not back down, he barely even shows sign that the thing in front of him is anything more than something he is going to kill.
That being said, the animation in the series is amazing only being held back by a few repeat animations which are, "obvious". The art style is great but some of the characters will look odd to newcomers of the Leiji Matsumoto Universe. The colors blend nicely but are a bit dark but seem to work well.
The Music is great, the opening and ending themes of the show are particualarily cool. Usually very dark, but can also often be sad to hear in a very not dark but distant kind of listening, and at its best the music is lifting and can show victory and triumph in way that can not be seen or portrayed even by the skilled animation staff.
This series is well worth the purchase and those who watch will soon fall in love with the characters of this story, and be left wanting more.
