Synopsis :
Three years have passed since the events of Crest of the Stars. Due to attacks by the Alliance of Three, the Abh have declared war on the only other competing star empire. However, both the Abh and the Alliance of Three have suffered massive casualties in the first clash of these empires. A truce has been reached in order to gie both sides the opportunity to rebuild their forces. Now Lafiel and Jinto have been reunited on the assault ship Basroil. Jinto works as the supply officer under his cpatain, Lafiel. Assigned to Operation Phantom Force, their mission is to provide interceptor support to the main fleet in the upcoming battle with the Alliance of Three.

Compared to Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars was a struggle for me to get through. The series follows up right after Lafiel gets her own ship, and Jinto graduates from school. The two are joined on their ship by two Abh women, a Terran man, and a crew in the background that you almost never see.
Banner of the Stars mostly focuses on the Abh's plan to defeat the Terran Alliance. Jinto and Lafiel's characters and character development really seemed to take a backseat to all the fighting in space.
Highlights:
-Most of the war seemed pretty realistic in terms of casualties. Banner of the Stars didn't refrain from killing off quite a few Abh and Terrans.
-The rest of the series wasn't executed very well.
Lows:
-The development between Jinto and Lafiel seemed to be lacking a lot in Banner of the Stars. In Crest of the Stars, Jinto and Lafiel really seemed to grow along with one another. BotS focused much more on the battles at hand than developing the characters further.
Er...:
-The character designs are the same so some may not like it still.
-During the battles in space, they reused a few of the scenes a couple of times. It wasn't too prevalent, so it didn't really hurt the animation much.
-The music was very forgettable. I remember it resembling the music from CotS, but I wasn't too sure it was the same.
Banner of the Stars wasn't as good as Crest of the Stars due to it lacking CotS' strongest points, which were character development and interaction between Jinto and Lafiel. I didn't enjoy this series as much as I did in Crest of the Stars. This series contained a lot more space battles, which may appeal to action fans more. Decent series for those who have watched CotS, but I wouldn't recommend this to someone who hasn't seen the first series.

The real name is Banner of the Stars or Battle Flag of the Stars. It is the sequel of Crest of the Stars based on the following science-fiction novels.
Even if Jinto and Lafiel are still the main characters, you have now a bigger picture of what is really going on in this war between the United Mankind and the Abh Empire. Even if you can almost see the situation only from the Abh point of vue, you still understand what is happening in the same time on the human side.
Their are far more characters and types of space ship than in Crest of the Stars. I like Lafiel, Jinto and the rest of the crew of the Basroil (Lafiel's warship) but I think that the ones who are really making the show are: the Crown Prince Dusaynu and his chief of staff Keneesh, the twin brothers Nefee and Nereis Bebaus, Admiral Spoor and her executive officer Kufadis. Almost all the scences involving one of those three pairs are memorable. I can't tell who is the most incorrigible, Dusaynu or Spoor.
The story is much darker than in Crest of th Stars because the main characters are right in the middle of the war and many Humans and Abh are dying. The pace is quicker but sometimes there some length, just to make you feel the relative peace before going back into battle.
The art is slightly better than in Crest of the Stars, especially the space bubbles and the saudecs or sords, but planar space is not very decorative.
The music is as good as in the first opus, the opening is better, the ending if you like.
I give 10 because of the dialogues, they are really too good, and my favorites Abh characters, they are unique.
