Synopsis : Narumi Takayuki is a typical high school student that doesn't care about school or anything. His good friend, Hayase Mitsuki has a best friend, Suzumiya Haruka that has a crush on him. Hayase, knowing that Haruka has had a crush on Narumi for quite some time, decides to try get them together and from there begins a romantic drama that is full of emotion that is also supported with a theme very much directed to a mature audience, straying from the typical, stale stories of a romantic high-school type anime. As much as I want to say more, it would just ruin the perfect start it presented.

Dramas aren't my favourite anime genre. As if there isn't enough drama in our lives, they have to make shows that remind me of the world we live in. Nevertheless from the number of positive reviews I knew that I had to see Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and see if it really is deserving of such high praise.
Animation
The animation was fair. Considering this was more of an emotional, character driven story, I never had high expectations in this department anyway. The female character designs were very nice… I ended up having a soft spot for Mitsuki.
Story
What really struck me about the story, was that it never bordered into the excessiveness of School Days where at times I felt the story was driven more by the shock of the characters’ recklessness and selfishness. With Eien I never had that impression. It was much more down to earth and the story as a whole was much more realistic. The introduction and start of the story was misleadingly optimistic. Things really got dramatic around the 3rd episode though. Thankfully it never went overboard. I didn't think I would have been able to handle a continuously morose and engagingly emotional story such as this, so the odd interjection of humour (courtesy of Daikuuji and Tamano) provided welcome relief. Definitely one of the most well balanced and absorbing dramas I've seen.
Characters
I think the key word to describe the main cast members is 'mature'. Like all good dramas, the cast should not only be realistic in their portrayal of probable real-life events but also in their ability to convey what are very fallible emotions. In that regard the characters were a delight. They were selfish yet noble in their motives; vulnerable yet reassuringly hopeful in their outlook. Mitsuki perhaps personified this dichotomy of opposing emotions the best. She admitted that she sacrificed everything to be with her love, Narumi to the extent that she discarded her friendship with Haruka. Overall, a very captivating set of characters that were both very human and fragile (perfect for bringing out the best in any drama).
Music/Sound
I enjoyed the music. The soundtrack used mainly a lot of string instruments and much like what was on screen… really helped to convey the melancholy of the cast. The OP and ED were the standard fare. Of special mention are the actors and actresses. Their performances in conveying the truly tragic moments in their voice were superb.
Summary
This most certainly ranks up there as one of the best dramas in anime I've seen. I'm not normally a fan of dramas, but from what I saw I cannot help but be impressed by the sheer tragedy of the story. Seeing the main cast torn between their incredibly difficult choices and decisions made for excellent melodrama. If School Days was perhaps a little overboard, then Eien is a very good example of balancing great story telling, with a realistic cast and story. Highly recommended viewing for fans drama.

I watched this one a long time ago and started looking at it again, not really remembering which one it was.
This show is not a romance but a drama; sure, the first two episodes are romantic in nature, but the whole story is more like the drama in a tragic romance. This show is really for mature audiences. Really well done but again I am not a fan of hard core drama.
Basically a love triangle with a tragic twist that ends up with everyone being unhappy at the end.
If you like the happy ending to in a dramatic story, then you have come to the wrong place. Story full of guilt, depression, anger, hatred, and more of the darker emotions. This is no light sappy love story. If I myself could enjoy this type of drama, I would give it a 10 but it has a lot of elements that make me very uncomfortable watching it, almost to the point of emotional pain. Overall a good anime that has a limited appeal to those that like somewhat darker stories.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, alongside School Days, Air, etc. elevated the drama genre in anime to new levels of maturity. It is an anime that I will personally use for future animated dramas as a standard. What makes Kimi ga Nozomu Eien interesting is that it has no tortuously mundane plot twists. It is simple and straightforward. The one plot that drives this series is the terrible reality of having to deal with a relationship that should have ended three years ago. Therefore the factor for this anime’s score hinged on the good performances delivered by the triumvirate Narumi Takayuki, Hayase Mitsuki, Suzumiya Haruka.
Takayuki's performance is neither too cool nor too impulsive. This anime would've tanked if Takayuki had been another meek average boy straight out of a harem anime. Therefore it is a joy to see him wandering between self-loathing and guilt when he interacts with the two girls. But he can only carry the series as far as his two ladies' performance. The performance done by Hayase Mitsuki I found to be wonderful.
With Mitsuki one does not doubt that she deeply loves Takayuki. Mitsuki does everything in her power to keep him close to her even at the cost of her former friend. She really fights to keep her life together even though she had decided to forsake much of her dream. Through the many glimpses of the three years that Haruka goes into the coma, we see Mitsuki piecing together what remains of her life while battling an oppressive guilt. Yet there is fragility in her actions from her trips to the hospital to see Haruka or her reactions to the indifference of Takayuki. All her strength hung on the one thread of hope that Takayuki doesn’t leave her for Haruka.
Haruka is unique because her naivety works well in her situation, while in other animes this is usually a disadvantage. For such a sweet girl, she really knows how to drive a stake through Takayuki's and Mitsuki's hearts. Her mind is stuck in a time warp where she truly believes that she is still a student in school. This, with the contrasting appearance of her matured body, gives her an eerie appearance whenever she's with any of the characters, especially if she is with Takayuki. While Mitsuki does everything in her own power, Haruka holds onto whomever she can when given the opportunity. It is when she finally accepts independence that the anime can truly bring a fitting ending to all three excellent characters.
It is very amusing to see the main characters in the beginning. They were practically identical in personality to the main characters in School Days. I half-expected to see one of the girls get an impromptu cesarean section. Unlike School Days though, the characters were restrained and in some ways superior. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien does not have the cynicism embodied in School Days, which allows actions taken by the characters in the former to be more flexible.
10/10

Good but overrated. It has a decent drama which can captivate those who just started watching animes or have not seen much coming out from this genre. So what about the opposite case? Cliche, unrealistic, overreacting or just poor. Regardless, we shouldn't overlook KGNE due to other factors.
Enjoyment rating:7/10
Story: The synopsis here is brief and sweet, so I shan't elaborate more (not to spoil too). Generally, there were some introductions of the characters in the first few episodes and a little character development at least. So, after some typical random events, a tragic incident took place and things weren't the same again. Never again. Probably the best section to rate high here for many. As for me, I find this series seriously unrealistic and everything appearing overly dramatic. 6/10
Animation: The characters are designed very well but too flashy. Likewise for the background. But they are designed too good to be real, in other words, unrealistic. 8/10
Characters: For a typical fanboy like me ,I have to say that the male lead should go smash his head on the wall as many times until he knocked some sense into his brain. That's for making two girls' lives a living hell. Now, rants aside... Suzumiya Haruka is one of the two girls who had a crush for the male lead and Misuki Hayase apparently is the other one. I don't like them at all, but I prefer having Haruka attached to Takayuki. Side characters like Shinji and Akane sure helped a lot by bringing the tension and dramatic level up but all ended in vain. All in all, the characters in KgNE lacked depth, which is one of the most important factors to making great characters. 6/10
Sound: Good OST. 1st EST followed up the good work. Last 2 ESTs unfortunately did impress me at all but the chorus is rather catchy. I have totally forgotten about the BGM. Seiyuu are decent too, but nothing extraordinary. 7/10
Overall:For starters, this anime is highly recommended. And if you like KgNE, I suggest School Days (well,a parody of this but better). For better and different drama series, try Fruits Basket or some of the Ghibli productions. Overall rating: 7(rounded up)

Ok this anime also known as Rumbling Hearts was a very good anime and I enjoyed it a lot . Though, before I go into a more in depth review let me tell you why I could not give this a 10 out of 10 rating. The atmosphere of this anime is crushing. I could not watch it all in one sitting even though I wanted to.
Plot 9 /10: As how I stated before, the feeling of the plot from this anime can just drain the life out of you. So, don't expect a cheery anime out of this. This was a very original idea and instead of showing a happy wonderful relationship which could never happen in real life, This takes relationships and shows the very very darkest side to them. Even though the story is captivating you just can't seem to pull away, even though you need too.
Characters 10/10: They did a wonderful job developing the characters and you could feel everything they felt. It was like it you instead of them. One of the characters is the biggest and worst jerk I have ever seen, heard of or even thought of in my life. You can relate to everything that happens to people, because you've ether experienced it or at least seen it somewhere.
Music not rated: Ok well it's been a bit since I've rated this. I try to wait a bit before rating things so I can see if it really is a anime that sticks with me or not. I don't particularly remember the music so I can't say.
This is my first review ever so if it doesn't sound good, go watch it anyways, trust me it's well worth your time. Very few animes are of this caliber.

I am a guy who happens to enjoy a good sappy drama, but Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is not really my cup of tea.
It's not because it is a sappy drama, but because I ended up feeling like I've watched this before.
My god, can this anime be any more of a cliche? It's like watching 50% of K-dramas out there.
After watching 2nd episode, I was able to predict the rest of the anime.
The drama, the emotions, the complicated feeling of guilt, desire, responsibility, etc. I've seen it done better in other works, mostly on K-dramas which happens to have full of these kind of stories.
There is absolutely nothing that really stands out on this work, and with predictable plot and typical sappy story, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien ends up as an anime that isn't really worthy of your time. If you want some romantic sappy drama on anime, try Hitsuji no Uta. If that's too dark and twisted for your taste, then try Hanbu no Tsuki Ga Noboru. At least that has some originality to it's plot.

Almost every romance anime series has their fair share of comedic and dramatic moments, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien limits the comedic moments and focus more on the drama.
It was a good experience for me to watch Kimi ga Nozomu Eien because I was getting the idea that all these romance animes (Love Hina, Ah! My Goddess, etc) follow a comedic approach with its series and tries to dramatize it towards the end. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien started of this way with a few comedic moments but then the series starts focusing more on the drama which makes this a very unique romance series.
Story
Without giving much of the very intricate plot, the series starts out as a cliche romance series but later blossoms into something that is on its own level.
Characters
The cast in the series gives a very down to earth vibe. The viewer is not bombarded w/ magical characters or unreal situations, but the very realistic characters makes this anime shine even more.
Animation
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien has well made characters with the well drawn scenery to match them.
Music
Who really cares about the openings and endings, lol

Story/plot 10/10:
The story line is pretty much more realistic than I expected, and because of that makes you run in emotions with each scene of it. (btw i am a romantic anime fan) and I never felt bored while watching because it pushes you to keep watching it.
Art/animation 8.5/10:
The art work was amazing, I have saw better than this but it was very good. The animation is the bad part here (in some scenes if the mouth wasn't moving while talking you'll feel that you are reading a manga instead of watching an anime)
Overall: I give this anime 10 and ignore the lag in animation just because of the story. If you are a romantic anime fan this anime should be in your must see list.

Ah, wow. This truly was an amazing anime. I doubt I could find any little thing to complain about while watching it... Except for one thing. It kept me awake watching episode after episode, and I ended up failing a math test due to lack of sleep. But, hey, that's just a testament to how great this series is.
Anyway, I'll start with the characters and their personalities.
I personally loved every single character in the anime. From the minor Daiikuji-chan to the four main characters, I enjoyed watching every one of them. Especially when combined with the absolutely beautiful and heartwarming storyline, the characters were absolutely wonderful, in almost every way.
The storyline, however, is where this anime really shines. I found myself crying for at least 3 hours, in a row. It was so amazingly dramatic and sad, yet, at the end, let everything turn out acceptably. So many scenes caused me to cry, which is a great thing. ^_^ Truly wonderful.
The opening song, is a little upbeat, but not to an extreme extent, and, although is a bit contrasting to most of the storyline, is very nice. However, the ending, and the final episode ending perfectly captured the essence of the anime with it's slow, peaceful, yet somewhat sad sounding tune. All the background music fit perfectly, further bringing out the soul and feeling of the already-dramatic storyline.
All in all, this anime was amazing in all ways... Watch it!

Well, at first Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is a great story for everyone who loves sad stories, if you only like comedy, forget it. The story is, like always in this kind of story, about a love triangle.
The story is very well made with a few (very few!) happy scenes and many (very many!) sad scenes.
The music is sad, so it's very fitting.
The animations are good, not too good but acceptable. Sometimes the Animation is very correct, so it's a little bit brutal (I wouldn't watch it with my kids, even tough I have no kids cause I'm 14, but nowadays this isn't an apology anymore)
It gets only a 9/10 cause it's just tooo sad.

Posted by : Flame_alchemist Posted on : 2006-10-07
I will start of by saying that you really have to watch this anime if you get the opportunity, and if you don't have one make one.
Story: A love story gone horribly wrong basically. The first two episodes seem to be straight forward and I was tempted to stop watching after that as it all seemed so nice and happy. However, at the end of the second episode Haruka (one of the main characters) gets into an accident and ends up in a coma, and this is where the story gets really interesting. Haruka's boyfriend Takayuki was with Mitsuki (Haruka's best friend) at the time of the accident and he feels responsible, and Mitsuki feels responsible and everyone is upset. Skip forward 3 years and the main bulk of the story begins, there are many complications with everyone's lives and everyone is hurting.
Characters- I liked all of the characters except Takayuki, I though he was a complete idiot and should have died for everything that he did. He caused Mitsuki, Haruka and Akane so much pain that, I felt, he deserved to end up alone and in a ditch (but that's just me). Each character had their own qualities and faults and this made them much more human.
The animation was practically flawless, everything was clear to see and I was able to understand how the people were feeling based off of what they looked like.
The music was good too, it added a lot of atmosphere, and I loved the opening song - "Precious memories"- very moving and enjoyable.
Final note: be warned this anime will make you cry, thinking back to the ending still makes me feel like crying let alone watching the ending. Some people think that the ending was happy, but personally, I felt that the ending was actually quite depressing, the ending was very good, I am not arguing against that, but I don't think it was a happy ending (the whole ending made me cry).
Regardless of how I feel about the ending, this anime deserves to best recognised as one of the best ever.

Posted by : du5k Posted on : 2006-09-29
I start watching this anime because I saw the start and ending some time ago on TV, and I thought it will be a nice dramatic anime to choose to watch. Being one of the few more dramatic ones, I have mixed feelings about this as although the story is excellent and leaves you with quite a happy feeling, it some what lacked something.
Most anime uses the pattern: sad event, good conclusion, sad event, good conclusion, and so on and so on, then Really sad event, Really good conclusion. This anime jumped straight into the last two. It started with an absolutely perfect introduction, then a mega sad event that last all the way until the end of the series. I was anticipating something good to happen, at least a little, but the series keep making me feel sad consistenly until the end. Mid-way i was frustrated and hesitant to get more sad stuff, so I rush through the whole thing in the end.
One thing I don't get, even of two people cannot love, they still can be friends right? That is one thing I strongly believe in, but it did not seem to happen.
Plot: 7
Love and loss of love and reuniting the loss love combo is the highlight of this story, though not very original, but wonderful nonetheless. But I feel that the tempo of the story is too slow because the middle part of the story dragged too long. It's a horror to watch on TV.
Story: 10
Perfectly wonderfully perfect, man. Okay, well, they really used the human ways of expression to bring out the feelings of the characters, like use of tears, body language, teeth gritting, eye expressions, moments of pause, voice acting and even breathing are done perfectly to express the characters.
Animation: 5
Though there are some pretty striking scenes, but pretty much that's all. The characters, frankly are not quite done properly, sometimes the proportion of them are not consistent.
Music and Sounds: 7
Averagely nice opening song and ending some, but doesn't really leave a deep expression like that of Ouran High School Host Club or Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Opening song is too cheerful, ending song too moody. Music in the background is ok.
Voice acting made up much of the superb expressiveness of the characters.
Overall: 7
Like I said seriously anime are hard to make. The seriousness make the dragginess very excruciating and that is the bad point of this anime. Other than that, it is actually... pretty good.

Posted by : Zoofnick Posted on : 2006-07-07
Now, let me start of by saying that I do not believe in that anything deserves a "perfect" score, but this anime comes pretty damn close therefore I give it a 10/10.
With that out of the way let´s start the review.
Animation: Not much to say here other that superb, especially the characters.
Sound: I really loved the songs from this anime (even though they depress me...) the character voices were also spot on, absolutely no complaints there.
Story: Now this is where it´s at in Kimi Nozo, no other... thing (anime or otherwise) has moved me this much, I sat through the second half (and bits of the first) of this anime with tears in my eyes and finally cried during the last episode (yes I DID like the ending). This is anime is very much a lovestory gone terribly wrong, and it shows how complicated love can be. Of course none of this would matter if the characters didn´t feel real, but since they feel truly alive you won´t be hard pressed to believe that this could happen in real life.
All in all a very touching anime that ends all to soon *sad smile*
(and I´m not going to mention the sex scenes as they are only there for the sake of the story)

Well, if ya want real life drama just like in the soap operas, then look no further then Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien.
Story: First, let me warn, do no expect any harem comedy. This anime focuses on human drama only.
The plot itself, as I have said, is somthing you'd expect from a realy typical american soap opera. Girl and guy love each other a lot. Girl ends up in coma and Guy then bunks off with Girl's closest friend. Girl wakes up and all hell breaks loose.
Although I'm a great lover of romantic dramas, this was at times so realistic and slow moving that it got borring. At times, the only thing I was looking forward to by watching this anime was the 10second parody at the end, provided by Mayu Mayu and the crazy blond one.
But in the end, I wasnt dissapointed. Seeing Takayuki trying to find out who he realy wants to be with and Mizuki go on a path of self distruction was certanly gripping, and in the end, I realy didn't know who Takayuki would end up with.
Characters: The character design is done so that all the characters are easaly recognisable, but I realy didn't like the style used. Although unique, I just find the character design in anyway new, just the same old anime look.
But to make up for this, I think their personnalities were very well developped and the voice acting was quite good. I find that combined with the situations of the stories, it is the characters personnalties that make up most of the appeal.
Animation: This is where the anime almost puts me off. Tha animation seemed to have gotten from standered, to bad, to just budget. The colours aren't realy visualy striking, the movement seems "blocky" and it seems the animators got lazy on several occasions. A huge dissapointment.
Music: The music isnt perticuarly exciting. It isnt bad, but just what would be considered standered and bareble. On the plus side, it goes very well with the whole "soap opera" theme.
All in all, a big dissapointment for me, but it still managed to keep me glued due to it's gripping human life drama and the fact that it still got me thinking "and then? and then? what next?"
So if you enjoy watching an anime with characters trying to figure out what to do next in there misirable lives (I mean this in a positive way), then this is for you. If you want panty flashing nosebleed action, then you have obviously gone way off in your search for harem comedy.

Okay, I didn't know Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was the real title of this anime, but nevertheless... I found it so i'm gonna write a review on it.
This story is mainly about four friends, Takayuki, Mitsuki, Haruka and Shinji. It started off about Haruka having a crush on Takayuki. As her best friend, Mitsuki tries to hook Haruka up with Takayuki, unwilling to accept the fact that deep inside her, she likes Takayuki as well...
Story~10/10
The story actually mainly revolves around Takayuki, Haruka and Mitsuki. Shinji is more of just thier good friend. I didn't really know if i liked the show when i first saw it. In the first episode I just thought it was gonna be another one of those love stories. However to my surprise it turned out to be rather a very touching and tragic story instead. Ever since then my opinion of the series totally changed. I can actually feel how the characters in the show feels, it really touched my heart(i know it did) as i cried while watching it. I even lost my appetite after watching it that i didn't eat my dinner! A MUST WATCH.
Characters~ 9.5/10
Very life like, the characters roles are all important and each has thier own good points and bad points. What is amazing is that their feelings and emotions are expressed so clearly i could actually feel what they are feeling.
Music~ 10/10
Yes the music couldn't get any better, music plays an important role in a good anime so good music is essential. The opening music and ending music are both wonderful. I didn't skip the songs everytime i watch the anime itself as it never gets tiring to hear them again and again.
Animation~ 10/10
Absolutely marvelous, i could tell what the characters mean when they did certain motions or did certain body languages. The graphics were pretty good too.
Overall~ 10/10
Such a masterpiece cannot be missed. What are you waiting for people? WATCH KIMI GA NOZOMU EIEN TODAY!
