Story/Dev: 50%
The plot is rather typical, centering around the protagonist, Tetsunosuke , who intends to become stronger in order to avenge his parents, who were killed right before his eyes. As such, he decided to join the Shinsengumi.
The good point for the show: Towards the last few episodes (and that’s when there is a drastic change in the mood) they picked up the pace of the series and featured more development---in short, the highlight of the show. And I must admit, some of the scenes were quite emotional.
And the ending is pretty good. Simple, but well enough. Not exactly a spectacular ending, but I can at least consider it “satisfying?.
However, it seems that they (the producers) have deviated from the main plot, ending up with spending more than half the series dealing mainly with how Tetsu coped with staying in the Shinsengumi, serving there as a page, his interactions with the members. The more I watched this, the more I wondered if I’m actually watching a Historical-Samurai anime, or a Historical-“slice-of life?. That’s how… ..off topic the series went. Simply put, they seemed to waste too much time featuring his daily lives in Shinsengumi, rather than pick up the pace and get on with the main plot, or at least show some development.
Yes, every now and then they do have scenes of the Shinsengumi fighting the bad guys, sending spies to obtain information and stuff. Unfortunately, things seem to really set into motion only in the last few eps. In fact things only got really intensive (and focus more on the situation ) during the last few eps. Also, the fight scenes are also not that spectacular. Even the finale between Tetsu and the leader of the rebels (also the villain who murdered Tetsu’s parents) ,which was the better fight scene throughout the series, wasn’t really impressive.
Animation/Graphics/Design : 67%
The graphics style is good. I like the graphics design, colour combination which gives a certain dark, somber and rustic mood. I also love the usage of Japanese Calligraphy for the title of each episode. It helps to emulate that old Japan feel. The animation for the fighting is just decent.
Very realistic animation for the swords.
Characters: 47%
There isn’t much character development, save for maybe Tetsu befriending the Spy of Shinsengumi, as well as Tetsu gaining recognition from Hijikata. However, this was quite shallow, as the development occurred only in the last part of the series.
Music: 47%
Decent. Not my type of music preference though I must admit that it did give the series a funky feel. However, the songs aren’t really memorable.
Summary:
I didn’t exactly regret watching ; it’s pretty average, nothing really impressive. While I did have a few good laughs watching the series, it wasn’t really that hilarious; nor are the scenes in the series that memorable. Hence the low rating, not that it’s bad, it just doesn’t really impress me that much.
Wasted too much of the episodes on humour situations. Not that I’m the type who dislike comedy; rather, this is after all a Historical/Samurai Themed….why are they concentrating on humour and random events, rather than the actual History/Samurai aspects?!
resulting in the “actual serious development? ended up being rather shallow and rushed, in the last part of series.
personal overall rating: 58%

Finally, I got my hands on this long forgotten series that I’ve ever hoped to watch. Many would have mention Kenshin Himura aka Samurai X, when someone start talking about Samurai related anime. However this I tell you, Peace Maker Kurogane is equally nice anime to watch.
Although there’s isn’t much bloodshed compare to Samurai X, this little story tells us something really rare during the old times of Shinsengumi aka Kyoto Police Corp. during the era between shogunate and meiji I believe… I don’t study history so curse me, but I could care less of the settings anyways.
I find the shinsengumi uniform to be very eye catching and better than the dark blue police outfit currently in our world. Anyways, instead of telling how an ancient killer going around killing, this series is more of telling the story of a little 15 year old boy trying to join the shinsengumi and learn the truth of the dangerous world where everyone wields Katana without restrictions.
Now why I like this series enough to give it 8 out of 10. First, is great to see humanity being elaborate here in the mist of blood thirsty killers. Secondly, there’s some little bit of history here to learn and hell ya! This is the only Famous Shinsengumi anime in the history! Or at least to my little knowledge. Thirdly, the girls in this anime is way too cute… Saya for instant beats every single Loli out there in my opinion. Who say Shana is the cutest? Oh and the hero is very likable although he can be really annoying being a brat… well don’t really expect him to kick asses like Himura though.
Well, the music is quite funny but well in conclusion this series is a real good watch. Sadly, I was not quite satisfied with the ending… something still missing and I highly expect a 2nd season. Well… I suppose I could at least get the manga and see if it’s going further than the anime or not…

Well, the story is compressed in 24 episodes which never fails to bore. In fact, in my opinion, it is better than the RK TV Series. Character development is very good. Everyone from the Shinsengumi people are given enough character time, and even those from the Ishin Shishi.
The fight scenes are awesome and there is slight acrobatics but there is nothing like "So Ryu Sen" technique names. The anime staff did a very good job in animation, it is fluid and there is no ugly scenes. Verdict, it is very good in all aspects. The disadvantage is it is only 24 episodes. Nevertheless, for Samurai-themed fans, Peacemaker Kurogane is a sure recommend.

So much potential wasted in this series. A bit unsatisfying to watch. Details.
Artword: 9/10. Excellent artwork. Great variation of scenery. Fights were decent but some flash/cuts. Otherwise overall the artwork ranged from good to excellent.
Music: 8/10. Good opening, otherwise the music and sound effects were above average with nothing sub-par.
Story: 7/10. Boy did this story die a bad death. Started with a great story, awesome historical setup.. a revenge theme and some hidden plot. Lotsa fillers were added, some stupidity and drama. Overall no true plot evolved and the story could have been done in half as many episodes. I was disappointed not to see many more fights and conflicts. There are some mature themes which added to the beauty of the story but boy did they lose out on making a great story.
Characters: 10/10. Why oh why did you not use the characters better. They had a great setup for them. Overall the personalities varied, promises of great interactions for the different characters. Typical characters were not present. Alas, a wasted setup of great bad/good guys.
Absolutely disappointed... I wished so hard for this to be a better story setup... oh well.

Peace Maker Kurogane, an anime which is somehow linked to Japan's history, and is capable of making you laugh and feel sad as the story continues.
Story:
The story mainly focus on a 15-year-old boy named Ichimura Tetsunosuke who joined Shinsengumi with his older brother, Ichimura Tatsunosuke. However, only Tetsunosuke wanted to avenge his parent's death, so he became Hijikata Toshizo's page, hoping to get stronger, while his brother, Tatsunosuke only works as bookkeeper in Shinsengumi and have no intention to avenging his parents' death. The story goes on with the brothers in Shinsengumi.
Animation:
Most of the scene are pretty dark, making it hard to see what is going on. The character design is unique, each with their own hairstyle though some male characters seems to look like female. Smoothly animated which enhanced the combat scene that took place quite frequently throughout the show.
Music:
Both Opening and Ending music have similar genre, fast-paced and energetic which makes the show unique, since action/adventure animes usually have a more smoothing Ending theme as compared the the Opening. Both the Opening and Ending themes are well done and suits the anime like a T.
Character:
Relationships of each characters are clearly displayed. One of the most prominent relationship, is between Tetsunosuke and Saya since they are close together and have similar background. Since the anime is based on history, many characters are just "copied-and-pasted" from the actual person, so there is a limit to the type of personality that is given to the characters. With the limited fictional characters found in the anime, the show has managed to become special on its own, and not just an animated history.
The show may start to be boring at first, but will turn interesting later in the story, so 8/10 is what I would rate this anime. Peace Maker Kurogane isn't your excellent reference to Japan's history, but a nice action/shounen anime worth watching.

At first when I saw the title of this show, I expected something different, but when I got some info on it, I quickly felt like I have got to see this show since it is a samurai show which I love.
The story to this is similar to Rurouni Kenshin, but there are the differences. First off, this is more from the point of view of the shinsengumi and their lives, and how they work. This show is not a 95 episode show, it is a 24 episode show. I have to admit the plot was very slow, but I think this is because they had to introduce some of the characters and develop them. The plot got really good after episode 16; it had the emotional moment when someone close to the people in the shinsengumi died, and everyone was very sad, especially the victim's brother and the main characters. I found the scene where the main character(Tetsu) was mourning for his good friend along with the victim's brother who was mourning mourning for his sister, to be the saddest scene in the whole show in my opinion.
Now the characters. Let's see. I did not really care for the main character Tetsu because he was just a very sensitive kid and always cried, but when it came to the ending parts, boy, was he so cool, he kicked ass. A character who was my favourite was Okita, I'm sure you are familiar with that name from Rurouni Kenshin. Yes, that guy was awesome at fighting. The only problem I had with him was that when I first saw him, I thought he was a girl. Then there were the three comedic guys; those guys were awesome and they were the main people that brought the humour to this show, and by the way they kicked ass in fighting too.
The animation in this show had no flaws, the action was great. The action was best at the ending when they got into some CG animation. The blood and gore were also really well done. I found that when it came to the blood splattering, they were realistic, and enjoyable to watch, and once again they were most enjoyable to watch in the ending. The characters looked great and very cool. The only problem was the look of Okita. When he is fighting, he does not have that appearence of a girl anymore but you don't see him in his uniform. Mostly, you see him in his normal clothes and he looks like a girl at those times.
The music to this show was great, the rock music was great, really fitting with some of the scenes. Opening was pretty good, I did not really have a problem with the ending theme but it can get repetitive.
Overall this anime was really enjoying to watch. The first 4 episodes were great to watch. From there until episode 16, it was okay to watch. It was after episode 16 that this show was great, and had you hooked. From there till the end, you get this awesome rollercoaster ride. This show has some flaws but it redeemed itself after episode 16 and at the end, that is when the show was really entertaining. This is one of my favourite animes, because of the exellent ending. Right now, I would say "Go watch it!"

Peacemaker Kurogane
Rate: 9/10
This is a very interesting anime series.
In the age of Genji, the story begins. In order to avenge for his parents' death, Tetsunosuke Ichimura, our hero of the story, wants to become stronger. He and his brother decide to join the Shinsengumi, one of the militia forces under the Tokugawa Shogunate. After a series of struggles, they finally let Tetsu enter the Shinsengumi, and gives him the job to be the page of the vice-commander, Toshizo Hijikata. Little does Tetsu know, that in order to join Shinsengumi, one has to gives up one's humanity and becomes a demon. What will Tetsu do? Will he becomes just another killing machine of the Shensengumi?
Good sides:
-Interesting story.
-Funny. Lots of good laughters.
-Good graphics and character designs.
Bad sides:
-Need better fighting scenes.
Based on the two popular manga series, Shinsengumi Imon Peace Maker and Peace Maker Kurogane, Peacemaker Kurogane is just another exciting anime series. Good storyline and good graphics, with tons of jokes, this is definitely one of the must-see anime series. Better fighting scenes would definitely improve this show greatly. Anyway, anime fans should watch this show.
Peacemaker Kurogane Rules!!!

Meh, this series was okay.
Animation: Crisp lines and they're connected. The main character has this really funky hairstyle that doesn't seem possible even at that time period. It's also pretty colorful, and the colors are all right for the chracter designs, but they're not really spectacular.
Storyline: A rip-off from Kenshin? Not really. It's mainly focusing on the main character wanting revenge to kill the man who killed his parents. However, we get sidetracked for most of the series into tiny little sideplots not dealing with the main plot at all but rather of the other characters' problems. There's some decent fight scenes, but they really weren't that great.
Repetitious use of annoying comedy is used throughout the series.
Characters: Varied, but they don't seem that believable, except for maybe one (and it isn't even the main one.). Besides that one, they're a cast of either stereotypical-cliche, droll, or empty-minded cast of characters that show feelings toward one another. The Shinsengumi weren't that bad at all, but there just seemed to be too many of those kinds of personalities already.
Music/Sounds: It has a pretty nice rock opening but that's about it.
Conclusion: Kenshin's much better than this. Funky character designs and sidetracking plots aren't too well-used in this anime.

This anime is based in the same time period as in the Kenshin OAVs. It follows a boy who wants to join the Shinsengumi to become stronger. I'll admit that I'm a sucker for any show that takes place during this time period, especially when it is somewhat realistic, so I loved this show from the beginning.
However it was quite perplexing and bothersome when a side story with supernatural stuff began. It really seemed out of place and I'm not sure what purpose it served as that time could have been used on the main storyline. Although I'm not that far in the manga yet, my understanding is that the side story is not part of the original story and was added into the anime.
Regardless of that I still really enjoyed this anime from beginning to end. Although there were some filler episodes, I didn't mind them too much. I think I simply enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the show as well as the characters. As the anime progresses it shows you a darker side underlying all the lighthearted moments, as should be expected considering the events of the time.
The story developed sort of slowly due to the filler episodes early on, but I've seen shows do a lot worse. Eventually the story moved along and although it was fairly simple, it did the job of bringing you in to the events and making you care about what was going on.
If you are looking for tons of action in this anime you may be let down. There are some good fight scenes but there are often episodes without any major fighting.
With a few less fillers, none of that wierd magic stuff, and maybe a little more fighting for the blood thirsty viewers out there, this anime could have been great. But it still manages to be very enjoyable and I would definately recommend it to anyone who is interested in samurai, especially Shinsengumi fans.

Peacemaker Kurogane. As Excel would have said "Oww... what a cute puppy-chan... but what the hell is it?!!", and as we would have it, the whole series is irrelevant to the title 'Peacemaker'. The term is only explained very much later in the series with only just one sentence and that was it, no action nor story that was related to it at all.
A better title for this series would have been "Try your patience at watching this long drawn drama until you get to the good part, then be baffled at the seemingly lack of a good conclusion". Besides the obvious meaning, the long and tiring title fits the nature of this series more appropriatedly.
The good,
Artwork - Clear lines and good striking contrast of colours ( during day and well-lighted scenes ) makes it admirable. There are some scenes where the standards do drop but overall it is pretty good.
The bad,
Story - For the first entire 18 episodes... we get a whole bunch of stories except for the main story. The main story ( if there was one at all ) was mostly non-existent and the first part of the series simply became a trial of patience. It could have been better if we could bear those episodes with some fluff entertainment. However seemingly only 2 out of the first 18 were entertaining to me. The last six episodes were just a compressed revenge cum purge story arc. The feel for a true central plot was non-existent due to the weak personalities of the leads. The necromancer's arc detracted from the feel of the whole story rather than boosting it. It served little purpose, or even none at all, and just left people wondering in puzzlement for the worse.
And the ugly.
Fights - The fights are intense exciting affairs. When you have any fights that has any real opponents in it, that is. If you are going to watch this series for the fights, prepare to be disappointed if you are going to watch right from the beginning. It is only rewarding in this aspect in the later episodes.
The trial of patience was too much for me. Hence what could have been good ( maybe they should have dropped it down to 12 episodes ) is now turned into bad as an overall 24-episode series.
The last part on its own though, is good to watch for action alone. I would advise those that seek action to just watch only episodes 20-23.
