Anime has a dubious reputation in showcasing stuff that is perverted, while starring characters that are barely acceptable. Just count the number of times Xenocrisis0153 has to say "back-off pedos" in his blog, and a potential drinking game is born. Then an anime like Aishiteruze Baby comes along that does something completely wholesome. In terms of execution the anime could be better, but the series has no precedents in my mind. This show is an idyllic (but not naive) slice-of-life that doesn't have any hint of perversion. Therefore it is recommended to those sick of harem anime.
Perhaps what I liked best in Aishiteruze Baby is the complete lack of a harem. Kippei only has the eyes for Kokoro, and their relationship has such a good feel. It's not full of artificial conjectures on how much so-and-so likes meek average male. Nor is it full of grand, but stupid gestures (I'm looking at you Ichigo 100%). From brushing aside Kokoro's hair to hugging Kokoro when she's sad the anime demonstrates that the subtle things in a relationship counts. In short, Aishiteruze Baby has a male character with balls, and class while most harem anime seems to take great pleasure in neutering their male leads... go figure.
Aishiteruze Baby lives and dies by how well the characters are written, because this slice-of-life romance has no story per se. Yuzuyu is abandoned, and the anime chronicles her life as she gets through this difficult period. She is the heart of the show. Having Yuzuyu smile will invigorate a boring episode. For instance: the athletic festival. Thanks to Xeno I realize how mundane this episode really is. It panned out exactly the same as he described it, yet once Yuzuyu flashes a smile all the flaws seem to disappear. With the right voice actress, Yuzuyu is mesmerizing.
The other characters are not so great. Many of them sound awkward. There is a disconnect with what's being portrayed, and what is said. The scenes and dialogues are beautiful, yet the deliveries of the dialogues are horrendous. Katakura Kippei is a playboy, but this was never portrayed very well. He sounded like he read out of the Complete Idiot's Guide to Dating. It was bland, and emotionless. This is held true for many of the characters, thus making Aishiteruze Baby a rather uncomfortable experience at times.
Aishiteruze Baby pushes the shojo genre further than the animated pulp fictions being churned out. The executions of the dialogues are jarring, but Yuzuyu does a good enough job to ensure the anime is enjoyable at least. The anime is refreshing. Hopefully others will follow in its footsteps, and start displaying thoughtful, romantic relationships.
Hence 7/10

I LOVED THIS ANIME!!!
It was great I loved the story line Playboy of the school is forced by his family to become the guardian of his 5yr old cousin. Though he is reluctant at first yuzuyu (the cousin) gradually becomes to grow on him and you can tell how much he cares for her. Along with this story line is how he goes from the irresponsible idiotic playboy to the responsible father figure (or older brother figure however you want to view it). Then there is Kippei(the ex-playboy) and Kokoro the quiet girl who right off the bat you can tell that she has feelings for him and how these feelings grow especially after she sees the responsible side of kippei after he gets care of Yuzuyu. You watch how these two's relationship grows. also you see how Kippei begins to regret the time Yuzuyu's mother will come back to take her and his feelings about that.
along with the romance and growing up and drama you can also throw in some comedy thanks to the comedy relief’s we have in Onee-chan (kippei's older sister couldn’t remember the name) and kokoro's friends. plus there are Kippei's idiocy and bad habits that will give you a laugh
I'm one that is not easily moved but this anime was able to do it I did in fact dry a few times or at least come close to it
though the ending of the anime sort of leaves you hanging its to be expected if you want to get the real ending go check out the manga which is also very good and no matter how many times you read it you will love it
No matter what happens I guarantee you will both laugh and cry

I struggled to come up with a rating for this show. On the one hand, I hated that artwork and character design. It was subpar in my opinion. The Music was laid back and while thats not necessarily a bad thing, it really didn't grab me. Having said this however, I loved this show. It's a quality anime from start to finish.
Its the story of a boy who is forced to grow up as he takes care of his 5 year old cousin, finds a girlfriend, and deals with all sorts of problems and issues. Sweet, sad, poingant, frequently touching, and often funny. Its one of the few shows that having seen the anime, makes me want to go out and buy the manga. This is definitely one to watch. I only wish the artwork had been done differently. If it had, this would definitely deserve a perfect score.

Delightful Stuff! The storyline and interesting characters kept me coming back for more. You know I'm liking the strong emotions here. I liked seeing how Kippei's skills and caring for Yuzuyu developed. As expected, there were challenges and encounters with some pretty mean people in the early parts. I liked watching how things developed between Kippei and Kokoro, and between Kokoro and Yzuyu too. And that extreme, violent older sister of Kippei's was a hoot!
I have to say, the artwork was rather cheap with sub-par quality. Otherwise, I'd give this series a higher score. But the strong emotions still came through despite this. The music was cute and fine overall, but also kind of cheap. I wouldn't bother with the OST on this one.
Interesting for most ages, although there are defenitely "mature" themes (physical abuse; abandonment; death; suicide) that make this not for the real younger crowd.
Four Stars. 8 out of 10 Rating.

I really like this anime. I bumped into it when I was searching for animes. So I decided to give it a try and watch it. I think Yuzuyu is the cutest thing ever. Kippei is a playboy and ended up having to take care of Yuzuyu, his 5-year-old cousin, who was abandoned by her mother, to put it bluntly, after her father passed away.
I'm really fond of the story as there are very few animes with this story line or not that I have seen. It's really cute when Kippei blushes due to Yuzuyu's cuteness. Kokoro, Kippei's classmate, smiled when Kippei hugged her to show his thanks. She hardly ever smiles when she's in class.
I'll always haf the urge to cry when they mention about Yuzuyu's mother.
I'm usually more of 'Samurai Champloo' kind of person due to influence but this anime is really nice in my point of view.

Adapted from the manga, Aishiteruze Baby, I find, was much more lovable in black and white. However, it is still a good series that has the necessary factors for this genre. Above all, the characters are all lovable, and that alone is a great plus. I hope you're not expecting a plot, because you're certainly not getting one. This series deals mainly with everyday events and follows the lives at school and kindergarten. The art seems more beautiful in color, but I found that it only detracts from the original because of the sometimes-shaky animation. The laughs are few and far between, but the character development is quite good. Nothing extraordinary, this series is still worth a watch if you're looking for a heart-warming story.

From a very lenient standpoint, this is exceeding a worthy score for this series. In comparison to the manga, Aishiteru ze Baby is a joke basically.
The only optimistic thing about this series is the music, in some aspect. The OP and EDs were fabulous. Very catchy and upbeat, fitting the tone set for this series. But in the duration throughout the series, where there were serious moments, there were use of inadequate music. I speak for a majority of us when I say that the use of opera music is a bit overdramatic for just a little scene to convey Kokoro's hardship.
The animation was far away, short of my aspectations. From the screens I saw, it was very cunning. When I saw the real thing for itself, I was truly dissapointed. Not only was everything choppy, everything seemed flat. It's not like CLAMP style where its proper, but here it's just wrong.
The story was truly a dissapointment. The amount of time that took to cover incidents was inconsistent. In comparison to the manga, where everything took place in an organized, consistent pace, everything was just off the wall here. More so, what was with the ending? The manga had it done so well, where the reader is actually satisfied with it. However, with this, it's different. The ending is abrupt and completely indecisive. The viewer is left hanging, wondering the whereabouts of the future for Yuzuyu and the others.
All in all, this was truly a dissapointment. When I read the manga, it was truly a moving Shoujo series that had caught my eye. With enough motivation, I thought the anime would be as captivating. Boy, was I wrong!

Aishiteruze Baby

Posted by : kusoXhage Posted on : 2005-06-19
Well, I must say that the little girl (Yuzu) is quite cute and very adorable. Watching her trying to fit in with her new dad was somewhat "touching" at times. However, overall it just doesn't cut it.
The story way too predictable. Personally, I thought it was quite boring. I just continued to watch each episode thinking to myself, "it's going to get better.... okay...its still going to get better." But when it finally finished, I was definitely not satisfied. The ending is just too weak.
The animation and graphics were overall okay, but I think I've seen better for 2004. The music was, I guess, okay.
Well I just had to give it a 6 because the ending was just too weak. I prefer series that really closes well and doesn't leave you that message in your head "is that it?"

Yuzuyu-chan is simply the cutest little thing.
Even as a person who generally dislikes children in reality, this show made me sympathise several times with cute little Yuzuyu! Yuzuyu is just as naive, good hearted and sometimes stubborn and silly as you could imagine. She is a child, after all, you know. However, something about her is simply captivating. I think the main reason for that is she has a very unique, talented voice actress, but maybe it's her cute constant-blushing, or the fact she sometimes acts as mature as someone 10 times her age would.
Putting Yuzuyu aside, another thing I liked about this series is the beautiful way Kokoro and Kippei's relationship is built. Some might say it advances much too slowly. I think that's simply not true. The series manages to build a very unique yet realistic relationship between the two characters, that goes, just like in reality, uphill and downhill several times. The way in which Yuzuyu is used as the thing that connects and binds them is also very beautiful.
Character design is very beautiful. Kokoro's brown, full hair, and rather unique face (unlike most anime series that have set patterns, somehow this seemed different) make her one of the most attractive female characters I've seen in a series.
I did not, however, like the music in this series. The opening theme was boring, and I found myself skipping it once or twice (what I usually refrain of doing). The ending theme was so vague I almost forgot it shortly after finishing to watch Aishiteruze-baby. The series did have a fitting theme or two. For example Kokoro and Kippei's first intimate scene had very fitting music, but overall the music was no hit.
After I finished watching this series I felt very empty and depressed. I don't know if to count this as a good thing or a bad thing, but be warned and wary :)
Overall this is a good watch. 7.5 on my scale (too bad the site only supports round numbers :).

Interesting anime. I was very skeptical at first with this anime. Wasn't sure what to think. The premise seemed kind of awkward, but I didn't have much to do anyways so i downloaded it. I'm very glad i did too. It was a very good anime. Now onto the review!
Animation: Um... bad. The animation wasn't consistent, the characters were drawn pretty badly at times, and the overall the animation was probably the weakest part of the anime. It was however wasn't bad enough to be unwatchable. Animation deserved probably a 6 or 7.
Sound: The music was good. Wasn't bad at all. Very mellow style which I liked. The opening was all right and the ending was pretty good. The background music set a good mood too. Very enjoyable music. Deserves a 8.
Story: Wow... talk about a long stretch. I guess that's why this story is good, because it's very original. I thought it was, at least. Didn't like how it ended all that much. It wasn't exactly an ending. The story was very compelling though, and it kept me watching. Definitely a 9 here.
Characters: I liked all the characters except Marika. All the characters were very nicely done. They all looked unique and different from each other. It was very nice how all the characters developed and how their relationships with each other developed. Characters were also a 9.
Enjoyment: I thoroughly enjoyed watching this anime because of the strong story and character interaction. Even though the animation wasn't that great, i still enjoyed watching it. Definitely a 9 here.
Overall: Aishiteruze Baby was a very strong anime if you take into the account of all the different factors it presents. The strongest was definitely the characters and story. I really enjoyed watching this. I would definitely recommend this to anyone whether this is someone's first or 500th series.

Taking aside what seems to be an open-ended story, which I can fairly say, also to the manga, Aishiteruze Baby gives you something which can touch your heart (damn I'm getting cheesy). Well, what happens to you when you find yourself taking care of a 5 year old child who's super sensitive than your average child of the same age and is super cute to boot it up?
The story starts with our playboy Katakura Kippei. Obviously he likes to flirt and kiss girls. He's carefree and seems a bit stupid but can really turn the problems of others upside down. So what happens when he's suddenly drawn into taking care of an innocent 5-year old cousin of his? Yuzuyu, you may say, is what you've always wanted in a child. Cute, understanding, although sometimes stubborn, and sensitive to your feelings. Although completely two different and opposite sides of the coin, they attract each other so much that they can't get themselves separated from one another without feeling lonely and such. And of course jealousy sparks, even for a few moments when Kippei gets a girlfriend, Kokoro-chin, who hates his guts at first. Well, naturally one girl there can't resist Kippei's advances and when he's serious about it. But although Kokoro may seem to be dark, sometimes a mysterious girl is the most attractive kind of girl you can find.
The characters overall helped greatly into bringing the story to life. While few missing pieces on them were not developed, it's enough to bring the whole plot together. Storyline continues in a fluid motion, though the sounds sometimes can get irritating if continously played all through out, like when the scenes tends to be cheesy for our lead characters. Regarding the comparison between the manga and the anime, well, still manga rules. Writers for the anime still sucks and leaves some more interesting parts of the story out like when Kippei and his classmates go out on a trip and Kokoro gets hit on by another man. That certain man in the anime sucks big time compared to the one on the manga.

I first started watching this because I was reading the manga and I really liked it, so I was interested in how they'd interpret it to an anime. So let's get started.
Animation:
It's certainly above average. Everything is nice and fluid, well defined lines and enough detail so everything isn't just a solid block of color. Nothing spectacular though, as there really isn't really much chance for an animator to go nuts, but character designs certainly matches the drawing styles in the manga, even though they're not as defined.
Characters:
Yuzuyu: Sweet and innocent little girl, she's a nice character to love, and you certainly wish you could be taking care of her. But you know, she is just a kid, so there's not a whole lot of situations you can toss her into that you can relate to, but hey, everything she does is cute, so who cares?
Kippei: Hah, this is a funny guy, kind of ditzy

I had postponed watching this anime for sometime, as I did not know what to make of it. I am glad that I finally started watching this series; as it is based on relationships, dealing with loneliness, and being alone.
The subject matter that it covers ranges from being abandoned by a parent, being abused by a parent, being neglected by a parent, and being driven to commit suicide. They are all handled with care and insight.
The main characters are Kippei and Yuzuyu. I must say that I find it unusual that "playboy" Kippei had a sensitive and caring nature about him that seems to be brought out more so when he starts looking after Yuzuyu. I find what they did for Kippei to be an unusual character combination. Add Kokoro into the mix as a secondary character and the trio play of one another very well. Kokoro is an interesting character as she does not articulate her emotions. This has led her to being alone. Having lost her mother at an early age she is able to relate to Yuzuyu in a way that the others can't.
The visual and soundtrack are average. They suit the anime but add nothing more to it.
I would recommend this anime if you like relationship based drama.

Curse me or call me stupid; either way I can't change who I am. I really liked this anime. Don't get me wrong, it does have its downsides.
The animation. It isn't up to par with some of the other titles out there. It has no schnazzy CG and the drawing isn't quite up to snuff. The three main characters look a little bit too cartoony overall. The only ones who looked "normal" were members of the supporting cast.
The music was nice. It had a somewhat Chopinish feel to it. I felt that it fitted the anime well in its softer moments. The guitar music for the romantic parts was a little too much ( a sax would have been better ).
Why I liked it: importance. This anime addressed several things. Some were hard hitting and others were more simple. But it appealed to the one sense that all people have: love. This dealt with the love of friends, family, siblings, spouse, first love, and true love.
Love is meant to last and to endure. And at the end of the anime, I was forced to look back at the series and think, "Okay, who loved who, and who was selfish?" It made me think. As much as some will not admit, and I have friends who do, EVERYONE wants to be loved, and know that they are loved.
The story was short in some places, but life is like that. You have your boring, nothing-happening days and your drama moments. But this shows just how much of a role love is to have in our lives. So to answer one reveiwer: the title is open to anyone's interpretation.
Would anyone really hate to hear the words "I love you" from someone who truly meant it?
"The greatest thing is to love and to be loved in return."
Animation: 6
Sound/Music: 7
Characters: 8
Story: 10
Overall: 9
