Doki Doki School Hours, as the title suggests, is a lighthearted comedy series. It's a ridiculously fun and cute little series, to be best appreciated when you just don't feel like investing a lot of thought or time into a show while watching.
Each episode is standalone, although it's recommended that you watch the first episode first, only to be introduced to the characters properly. Each character represents a different stereotype of student (dumb jock, two-dimensional otaku, 'old man,' honest/sarcastic girl), and they are all in a class taught by a very child-like single teacher. As with many slice-of-life school comedies (Azumanga Daioh, Lucky * Star) there is no plotline, just a series of random events and interactions between different classmates. The character interactions are what make this series so fun, and despite the fact that they go through very stereotypical episodes (the sports festival, culture festival, art field trip, Valentine's Day, etc.) the sheer zaniness of the characters will usually keep you interested and laughing.
The childlike slice-of-life aspect of this series is played up by the very simplistic animation by J.C. Staff. Some viewers may be surprised to see that J.C. Staff is behind this, considering how very simple, and sometimes inconsistent, the animation is. Unfortunately, along with the animation, the music is not worth paying much attention to either, and will probably be skipped by the viewer after the second episode.
Honestly, I didn't expect much from this series when I started watching it, and was pleasantly surprised at how funny and entertaining it turned out to be. Definitely not the best of its genre, but well worth watching for a laugh or diversion from more serious series. 7/10
