Starting with Tsubasa who just moved from Tokyo, she starts out very shy and full of self doubts. She sees a light and meets some people. One person she meets is her alien sister.
This show is very sweet and has a very good storyline. I find the animation to be superb. There are no unrealistic type body figures in the characters which means that if you are looking for an ecchi show you are not going to find it here. Next the animation is smooth and there are not all the still shots you find in other animes. The magical girl transformation is short and only shown rarely.
The music just fits the story very well and is rather beautiful. While I did not really listen to the opening and closing much I found all the in episode music to be just right for the show.
Now for the story. There is no need to suspend disbelief in this story. There is nothing really unrealistic here in relationship to what is potential in the realms of sf. We have characters that have human abilities and potential while only in transformation do they have superhuman qualities. The relationships are very realistically portrayed even the initial contact and the drawing in of Tsubasa into the conflict is not beyond the realm of possibility. She is not singled out for superpowers like in many other shows but is in the wrong place at the wrong time. The only unrealistic part I find is the reactions of the monsters. Next the relationship between Tsubasa and Hikaru is exactly what one would expect in the situation. I find that when Hikaru is trying to draw away, we can see her pain in doing so. The personal growth is slow but it is exactly what you would expect in a child under the circumstances.
Overall I recommend this show to anyone. It is not really fast paced but it is realistic in the extreme for an sf type magical girl type show. This is the best magical girl show I have ever watched.

Synopsis
Ten year old Tsubasa Shiina is a very timid and shy girl who recently moved from Tokyo to Hokkaido with her father. She’s very quiet and unsociable so it’s hard making friends at her new school. One night, she witnesses a UFO crash in the forest near her home and goes to the scene. She discovers an unconsious pilot of the crashed shuttle and tries waking him up. Just as she is almost attack by an alien the pilot saves her and fights the monster after transforming with a living metal called Riberus, which is used as a battle armour. Soon after he loses consiousness again, so Tsubasa decides to hide in the shuttle but the alien still manages to get part of itself in and tries to attack her, breaking a nearby Riberus. As she cries for help, the Riberus reacts with her and she transforms into the Figure 17 and defeats the alien threat. As she seperates with the Riberus it instead turns into an identical twin of Tsubasa, with copied memories, and takes the name Hikaru. Much later, Tsubasa is explained everything by the pilot, named D.D about the Magyua and the eggs that scattered all over Hokkaido and he needs Tsubasa and Hikaru to turn into the Figure 17 and help destroy the alien threat until backup arrives from his home planet.
Characters/Development
There are two aspects within the series. The first is where the characters fight off the Magyua threat one by one. Each fight is different from the last as we see the technology and weaponary being improved and new tatics thought up as each of the Magyua is different and stronger than the last in their own ways, which remains interesting throughout. The second is where Tsubasa struggles to become more self confident, especially during the fights with Magyua. There's also the life of Tsubasa and Hikaru on the farm and during school as they both support each other and play with their friends during free time. There is both happy and sad moments which can bring a tear to your eye as the emotion feels realistic. Both aspects flow very well together as both are developments during the series that I felt were perfect. The relation between Tsubasa and Hikaru developing were very sweet and cute moments as they were there for each other.
Animation/Scenery
At first the anime feels quite old for its time as it does appear slightly dull. The picture is too soft and the colours aren't very good during the first two or so episodes but eventually it gets a lot better. The picture gets more clearer and sharper. There is also very few repeated scenes throughout the series, but everything else is unique and animated well during the given situation, be it calm or a fight with a Magyua. Other than that the animation remains very good without too many complaints. The main character designs are great but a few of the other characters aren’t anything too special but overall it does have its own style without anything excessively cute either. Characters always wear different clothing, keeping it a little more realistic and develops the personality of characters more by the clothing they wear. There is a wide variety of scenery in Figure 17, but most of them are usually natural areas, but many scenes on the farm, in Tsubasa's school and even some space scenes and other minor locations. They are beautifully designed with a lot of colour that mixes perfectly, nothing that goes out of place and since there are scenes during different times of the day and year add to the variety.
Audio/Music
Again at first the quality of sound is quite dull but later improves. Voice acting is great, nothing to complain about there. The anime however didn’t seem to have a wide variety of sound effects at first so those are heard quite alot throughout some time. I also noticed very few sounds started late during the animtation but nothing too major. Background music was fantastic for both aspects of the anime, most that can be easily remembered too. Music for the calm moments had both happy and sad moments, some with a reconisable tune being used that I liked the most, the same goes for the music used during the battles that brought tension and excitement to those bits. I found the track used when the Figure 17 fights the Magyua was the best for these situations, but the other ones were still good.
Conclusion
With the two aspects to the anime, it can be both exciting or upsetting. I enjoyed every moment while watching this one, but I enjoyed the relation between Tsubasa and Hikaru grow the most. It is a serious anime with very light comedy, but filled with emotion that felt realistic thanks to the good voice actors and music helping achieve this too. One of the best anime series I’ve watched in a while, everything about it I felt was really fantastic.
Overall Rating: 9/10

Wow! this anime really took me by suprise. When I bought it, I didn't know what to expect. I mean, for one thing, I prefer anime which are funny and light-hearted. However, this is one of a few 'serious' anime I've cometo like so very much.
Right, basics! Tsubasa, our little heroine for the story, finds it hard to adjust to life after moving homes. However, after a period of living there, she encounters the extraterrestrial in a way that would have anyone peeing in their pants. However, because of this encounter we gain another new heroine, Hikaru. Tsubasa and Hikaru are identical in appearances but their personalities are as different as the sun and moon are. In anycase, it seems Maguar eggs that'll hatch into monterous Maguar have been scattered around Tsubasa's new home. Hikaru and Tsubasa now have to join up to destroy the Maguar, but this is not without complications!
Now, as I've said, this anime has very little humour, except maybe in the way of human behavior, but,the anime itself is very heartwarming and you can't help but feel for both Tsubasa and Hikaru as they go through a double life.
One last thing, the opening and ending songs for this anime are great, in particular the endingsong is brilliant. It is haunting and will stir up feelings for the bond between Tsubasa and Hikaru.
This anime is highly recommended, just in case you haven't FIGUREd this out.

This was a very cute anime. The animation was really nice, and whenever I hear the music I get a warm tingly feeling inside. I'm not to familiar with shoujo but from what I've read of it this perhaps would fit into this category slightly.
The main character, Tsubasa, is a very timid and shy girl. She tries to do what's right but is to held back to speak up. She only has a father who does his best to make her life happy. The story begins when Tsubasa's father gets a new job and has to move out to the country and she has to leave all her friends and start life anew. Its difficult for her to get to know anyone since she's so quiet.
Unfortunately there happens to be a alien prison ship passing near by carrying a few dangerous "magyua" eggs. The ship crashes and lands nearby Tsubasa's home and the eggs fall all over the region. When Tsubasa chases her dog out into the glade, she runs into the crashed ship and finds the unconsious pilot. One of the eggs hatches and the "magyua" chases her into the ship. Inside she accidentally breaks a vial containing a sentient liquid metal bio-suit that gets in contact with her and transforms into the Figure17 to fight the magyua. When they separate the suit interacts unexpectedly with her human physiology and forms a "twin" of Tsubasa, Hikaru, with all her former memories.
This new girl shares the lead role with Tsubasa. Though she shares the same memories Hikaru is much more confident and out spoken. The story goes on with Tsubasa's struggle to become move self confident with Hikaru's help, while also using Figure17 to help the pilot kill the magyua.
There seem to be two aspects of this series. I felt drawn in by the human aspect of the girl struggling to become more self confident rather than having to fight the magyua. The series is about the how people work and get along with themselves and each other; the magyua part of the story line backing it up showing another side of Hikaru's struggle. Everything in this series seems to flow together nicely, from the animation, music, and both sides of the storyline. It
