Azuma Kazuma is a teenage boy who has carried on the dream of his baker friend of making a bread so good that it would represent Japan! Thus his bread will be named Ja-pan! ('pan' is Japanese for bread, yes, a bad pun) Thanks to his baker friend, he learned about the making of bread but the big revelation was that he had special hands named "Solar Hands" that could warm and ferment bread as he touches them.
With his great hands, he must now go to Tokyo and battle it out with 34 other people to work at the greatest bakery in Japan: Pantasia!

Aha! This anime will forever say in my slot one list, and NOTHING will seperate it from me. What is the secret of this anime, that turned my anime hating friends into the ones I knew? I'll never know.
Azuma Kazuma dreams of one day becoming the baker that creates Japan, the bread that will represent Japan, just as French bread reminds you of France. In order to attain this dream, he has to work for one of the most wide spreading japanese bread store, Pantasia! Along the way to his goal, he ends up in the southern branch instead of the main branch. It's there where he meets the Manager, Tskuino, Kawachii, Kanmuri, Suwabara, Kuroyangi and lots more!
What a great anime that left me awestruck. Not only do the girls look good, they don't look like an old man would rape them. Every character has a second appearance or purpose in the story, and every encounter will effect the plot. The music was nice and slow, relating with the story. While action fans might not like it, there is a bit of competition in there with tense battle situations.
This anime is hilarious if you understand the HUGE amount of puns, such as the title (In japanese, pan means bread. If you say french bread, you put France-Pan, but in Japan, you don't need a second Pan). Other than that, there are just some good ol' plain fun. The voices matched the personalities and posture, and the animation was smooth and enjoyable to look at.
I would reccomend this to EVERYONE, and I also find myself gazing at the past episodes at least once a month.

I came to watch this not because I have any interest in baking, but because A-S used to host that manga, which was kind of interesting, which then lets me give the anime series a try. I didn't got past a few episodes though. Sadly, this review won't be for the whole series.
The plot isn't very different from what you'll expect from a cooking anime... like those sushi making anime many years back. I suppose featuring bread makes it kind of unique since bread isn't typical japanese food. The protagonist simply just goes through competition after competition challenging better and better bakers. That's about it. Oh, did I mention he will never ever lose?
Thus for the same reason I never really got onto series of similar genre; The excessive use of lame jokes, puns and REACTION (to how good the bread is) is overwhelming and makes me cringe. All that REACTION even became a plot device.
The animation is fairly nondescript. The music is forgettable. The VA work is horrible... not that the seiyuus aren't good, but they simply don't match the voice of the character and the mood.
Plot/Concept: Lame, unless you're into the genre.
Story Style: *cringe*
Audio/Visual: Bleh
Value: 5

This is an awsome anime! I love it, but I wish there were more episodes by the time I found out about it.
PLOT: 10/10 It has a nice and inspiring storyline (for me at least because now I decided to take up baking. (though my first attempt at making a french bread was a complete disaster.)
CHARACTERS: 9/10 I like Azuma, Tsukino, the manager and Kanmuri, but I dont like Suwabara or Kawachi (always giving up) that much and I HATE Yukino, but I guess thats kind of the point of her character (an anime needs a villan)
MUSIC/SOUND: 9/10 I like the songs, they are refreshing and the sound effects are transcendant.
VOICES: 8/10 I think they suit the characters, but kawaichis sounds a bit older.
ANIMATIONS: 9/10 I think they are good, with only a few exceptions.
COMEDY: 7/10 There is comedy, but not THAT much, but the comedy it does have is very funny.
PUNS: 7/10 There are a LOT of witty puns in this, and when I first started watching, I didnt get that "Japan" was a pun until later on (There is no reason for a "pan" after "Japan" because there is a "pan" in "Ja-pan"
I guess overall it is a good anime, but the time during the newcomer battle azuma said "will you go out with me, Tsukino" (to the store cus i dont have any money) And unknowing wut he really meant she accepted but it became detached and they left that idea alone, which was a bit expectation-raising.

Story : 4/10 There isn't much story so i believe 4 is a fair rating. Cliche cooking competitions and bad guys trying to take over, etc etc.
Music : 7/10 Music is overall good throughout the anime so no complaints here.
Animation : 7/10 The animation i have no complaints about it but some backgrounds are kinda awkward at certain parts of the story especailly during some reactions. To me, it seems they were trying to hard to exaggerate certain reactions and thus it does not really suit the situation in my opinion. Still good overall.
Comedy : 10/10 This anime is hilarious, full stop! Reactions are fun to watch and some of the gimmicks are quite refreshing and plain mouth watering to watch.
Overally this is a good anime. 7/10 for me go watch it! It will be worth your while.

I'm not particularly "into-into" anime, but this is one that caught my attention and it's super interesting. It's about bread, and it's filled with puns. He is a judge in the first few episodes, and his reactions to different bread is really original.
This anime is about a boy- Asuma who wants to find Japan, a bread that Japan is famous for. His personality is a combination of innocence, idiocy, and genius. It's pretty funny because he can figure out impossible equations and codes in a few minutes. but he can't understand the people around him. His character is totally impressive and original because he's one of the first hero's that aren't cocky, perverted, angst-y, or heroic. He's more of a laid back and happy-go-lucky, peppy, and cherry person. Very sweet.
Another character that made Yakitate!! Japan funny was Kuro-yan. With a cocky personality and a over-obsession for bread, his judging is over the top. Going to the moon, gooing to heaven, being a karate expert, and trying to strip are just a few of his uber funny reactions.
The art style for Yakitate!! Japan is really simple, but cute, and the chibi expressions of the characters are something that makes the anime really special.
And even if it's just a comedy, there are some morals to the series as well. The drama adds to the plot and makes it worthwhile to watch.
Plus, we get free recipes. =D

I've watched a lot of anime, but this one is probably one of the most unique animes there are. It's about bread making!! How cool is that. And in some scenes they over-dramatize the reaction especially when Kuroyanagi-oniisan (Azuma's way of talking) judges the bread. It's so funny. And from this anime, Azuma, the main character, has SOLAR HANDS! which helps him in his quest to make a bread which is know throughout Japan.
I give it a ten since this anime is filled with humor and of course knowledge about bread making. Awesome anime, its great visually. One of the best anime and certainly the most unique. 10/10

Baaaaaaaaad. But I guess I'm only saying that because I keep comparing the anime to the manga, which is phenomenol in every way. The animation is decent, with maybe one or two episodes that have stale movements, but what really annoys me about this anime are the voices. Azuma has some bratty kids voice (like that annoying little brother on "Juniper Lee" - I just want to step on him) and Kawachi's voice sounds overdone and cheesy. Though, I do like Tsukino's voice, it has a nice tone to it, though not too high pitched like some anime characters (the ENTIRE girl cast of "Shuffle"). The reactions to the bread are not as good as the manga, essentially because some things are funnier and more surprising when read instead of seen. Also, some reactions are too ecchi or controversial to be seen on TV even though they are in the manga (the Pele reaction Pierrot does afer eating Kawachi's bread during his match against Spencer) and this takes away from the charm of Yakitate. I reccommend this manga to those who have never seen an entire show devoted to bread making (its more interesting than you think) but not to those who have already read the manga.

"Yakitate!! Japan" is a genuinely funny anime. Or maybe I just have a warped sense of humor. The main character has a goal to create the best and most original bread in all of Japan, but does it so dramatically, he might as well be saving the world from aliens or something. He's from the country, and since he was a child, just started experimenting with making different types of bread.
The problem is, he doesn't know that practically every type of bread he's made so far already exists, so he isn't original. He does, however, manage to improve the taste of every bread that he makes. This is most likely due to his "solar hands" - hands that naturally warm the bread as he's kneading it. It's so dramatic that it's funny every time a new character see's his hands and go "That boy's got SOLAR HANDS!!!" But more than his hands, he's got a natural talent for making good bread.
I really look forward to seeing where his quest for making the perfect and most original bread takes him. ( Hey, we've got really good and ridiculously popular anime about playing Go, tennis, and people changing into animals of the chinese zodiac, why not one about bread making? sure, why not? ) Oh, and the 2nd episode has a master samurai/bread making genius... there's gotta be a samurai in every anime, right? This is definitely a good series to check out if you're looking for a good comedy.

What a unique anime we have here!
I 'm reading the manga too and I have no complaints about the adaptation.
Story and Characters: 10 (The same as its Manga counterpart)
Animation: 10
Especially after someone eats Azuma's bread, something you can't see in the manga (afterall two or three cells are not enough to describe the glorious flavor/texture of his bread)
Sound/Music: 8
Really good cast of voice actors (and actreess)
The background music suits the story.
BUT the soundtrack could be better in my oppinion.
Knowledge given by the mangaka: 10
It's incredible how much you can learn from this anime.
Overall: 9.5
I bet you will enjoy it ^^

COMEDY!!
This is one of the funniest anime I've watched!!
Its one of my must-watch!! Never imagined a story that revolves around bread can be so exciting!!
Though the main character Azuma seems almost unbeatable... but that's what I like!!
This anime is also one of few that beats the manga!! Good graphics and sound effects makes the show soooo lively... Each character is unique and funny!! Especially that silly baldy Kawachi vs. Suwabara (Baldy no.2)!! HAHA!!
Oh ya!! I also lovvee all their starting and ending songs!! THEY ROCK!!
Hmm... but I'm only givin a 9/10.. cause it gets a little long winded towards the end.. but it's still a nice show!!
All in all, it's a HAPPY ANIME~ WATCH IT!!! and BE STRONG!

One word "WOW" I never heard of an anime that involved making the ultimate bread can be soo interesting. This anime deserves a 10 out of 10. Mostly because of its unique characters. I first got interested when I came upon this anime from another site www.readmanga.com and thought it was pretty well drawn and was really funny. This anime was funny yet it was creative at solving various problems that are thrown at the main character. Great anime to read or to watch, whatever, I'm just looking forward in seeing more

I love this anime. I heard about it quite a few times from people who said they were watching some anime about bread. I was quite skeptical about whether it was actually good or not. Then I read the reviews on AS and noticed that it had pretty good ratings and reviews.
It is so incredibly different from many of the other animes around. There's no love story and no major drama, but somehow it just continues to suck you in. The facts that they throw at you are incredibly interesting, and it makes you wonder how an anime about baking could be so entertaining. In fact, after the first few episodes, I had a major urge to bake some bread, especially with the extra knowledge gained throughout the episode and in the 'Seed of Knowledge' section, so I actually bought a bread pan.
Comedic animes are much more my thing, and this combined with the tidbits of knowledge that are thrown at you, makes this anime a lot more interesting than many of the other cliche animes out there.

I love this anime. When I first read about the plot, I didn't even want to give it a shot. However, a friend of mine told me to just give it a try because it is quite funny.
Yakitate Japan is about Azuma Kazuma and his dream to make a worldwide known bread known as Japan. Up to date he has almost 60 Japan breads. The show is nothing but hilarious from the first episode up to episode 40. Every time someone eats Kazuma's breads they give a hilarious reaction that can't be explained. The characters in this anime are off the wall hilarious with Kazuma's best buddy (who I forgot his name) who always says "what was that?" in japanese.
I recommend this anime to everybody who loves a good story with great comedy.

A rating of 10 for this anime about, what else BREAD!?!?!
Aakitate!! Japan is the classic story of a boy leaving his family to discover the world, and make a difference, the only twist, is that his goal is to make a bread to represent Japan.
What makes this anime so captivating is the amount of information the writers throw at you and if you bother to look up the stuff they discuss, you will be amazed to find, it is true!
The only reason this anime does not score a perfect 10 in my opinion is the voice acting. Like many anime, the voices of many of the characters (specifically the male ones) are ear splittingly high.
However, besides that this anime is a twist on an old story, one that is worth checking out!

Basically speaking, this one is one of those animes that I consider interesting because it is about baking bread. How original is that?
I have watched a couple episodes and I liked how the story was going, about how Azuma wants to make a bread that represents "JAPAN" and how he met up with people (the bakers) that are able to help him create different kinds of bread. He has this solar hand thing were he can create bread faster and yummy!
OK; let me sum it up!
STORY: the story was really great as I have said in the previous sentences.
MUSIC: the opening song is wonderful. It blends with the scene, and of course the other sound effects that goes with each scene.
CHARACTERS: the characters are really likable in their own ways and really hilarious too. The way they are drawn goes with their personalities too, like the afro manager (Ahihihihi really funny guy).
ANIMATION: the animation is beautiful; I don't see any thing in the animation that I dislike.
OVERALL: YEAHHHH! I gave it a 10/10 score. Definitely one of the anime with bread, drama, comedy and lots of fun.
SO YOU PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT SHOULD!
BECAUSE IT'S WORTH WATCHING >_<
