Today is the second Monday of January, so the citizens of Japan who have turned 20 years old within the previous school year will be celebrating their passage into adulthood. In Japan, a lot of rights are granted to men and women on their 20th birthday, rights such as voting and drinking. Coming of Age Day, an annual tradition since 1948, is the holiday in which many families and communities hold festivities to welcome the next generation.
Early mornings for celebrating youth start with commemorations from family and community organizers, while nights are spent out partying with friends. It's quite common to see many young women adorned in their elegant kimonos.

And yes the lines in the movie are pretty damn awkward and funny sounding as the title of this post.
And some hilarious parts including the "meat" talk where the audience burst out laughing at the corny lines.
Beowulf reminded me really of one other movie... but I thought the other one was way better.
"THIS IS SPARTA!!!!"
"I AM BEOWULF!!!!"
Apart from looking ridiculous and getting a bit dizzy from watching this film in 3d. Some other side effects include everyone yelling "I AM BEOWULF!" randomly in the streets at startled people and 'meat' jokes.

There's one line from Serial Experiments Lain that I often think about when random moments like the following happen.
"No matter where you go, everyone's connected."
Sometimes it's true in ways you least expect. I don't consider myself by any means famous, but at times, it's funny how well known I am in random places. Some of the more recent examples of this would be several different mecha related boards I visit bringing up the Gundam Panels I've done (with the help of others that honestly deserve more credit than me), and even beyond that, at this past Otakon, while in the audience at a Gundam panel, people I didn't even know were pointing me out when those running things asked "does anyone else here run a Gundam panel?"
Yet today as I was helping with an Anime Boston pre-registration event in Harvard Square, (for those of you who don't know, I help run security for AB) and someone comes up to me to pre-reg, looks at me for a moment, pauses to think, and then shouts with anticipation, "Hey you're Nigoki aren't you?"
Was this person someone who knew me from A-S? Nope.
How about another panel audience member? 'fraid not.
Fellow AB staffer who's seen me on the forums? Wrong again.
Someone recognizing me from the mecha image boards I frequent? Not at all.
So who was this mysterious young woman excited to meet me in person? It turns out this was someone from the recently departed site, A Sailor Moon Romance (ASMR), where I was one of the boards' four infamous "mechaboys". (We got special display status and everything for showing we were the boards authorities when it came to knowing things of the giant robot variety.
What makes this even more amazing to me is that I hadn't been on the ASMR boards to post in AT LEAST a year. The last post I remember making was photo after my return from my semester in Japan which would be early 2006. Even then, my appearance has changed since that photo. (Sideburns FTW!)
Yet Despite an absence from ASMR, my infamy apparently continued as I was reportedly spotted at several Anime Bostons, but was in the middle of something and couldn't be stopped to be bothered to check and see if I was who they thought I was. (Doesn't surprise me, AB tends to keep me on the move, over the course of the 2007 convention, I walked over a marathon's worth of steps according to the pedometer I kept on my person). Seeing as my screen name for ASMR was also what I use for the AB forums, I guess it was only logical that I would be spotted on the "who's online" list by someone.
Guess I gotta behave wherever I go nowadays.
