...but I don't have a DS to answer with.
Kotaku released an interview with the Ace Attorney series producer Minae Matsukawa from Comic-Con '07 saying that "it would be pointless [to release Phoenix Wright 4] if number three doesn't do well [in the West]." I don't know what it is about her statement that makes it nag at me so much, but I really want to support the franchise I have read so much about.
See, I'm not the gamer I used to be at all. The last game I beat was FFX (something like 2 years after its release). Yet, I bought myself a slim PS2 and modded it so I could play my two games that I bought while I was living in Japan. I have yet to finish these games I have been able to play since around March. I just don't have the time to commit to sitting in front of my 12" TV, playing a game. (And yet I have all the time in the world to sit in front of my 15" LCD monitor writing blog entries. XD) However, I am crazy enough to believe that if I bought myself a DS, I would be rocking that thing like there was no tomorrow. I am also convinced that I would enjoy playing Phoenix Wright enough to actually play it through. In a way, I'm very apprehensive about trying my luck with a handheld system, even though I recall my younger years with the Sega Game Gear that I played the heck out of.
Do you have any words of "encouragement" and unbiased experience to prod me in the direction of getting a DS and Phoenix Wright?
In the mean time, while I await the wave of replies, I'm going to drag myself back to attempting to do the work I'm actually getting paid to do. o(_ _;)o Procrastinating for two hours because of blogging is hardly an acceptable excuse. By the way, I'm sure people have heard about the Del-Rey licensing of the Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright) manga. It could very well be an interesting read. I know I'll be picking up a copy just because it would look fairly amusing next to my Shakugan No Shana light novel. That is, once I am actually able to have a shelf to stack my manga on.
Ja na, minna-san. |

I myself have been acquainted with Phoenix Wright only recently; nevertheless, I was impressed with its ingenuity. The game is entertaining and well-crafted, exhibiting an intelligence that's difficult to find in games these days (excluding The Legend of Zelda series). There's massive amounts of text to endure and there is minimal replay value, but solving the cases (which are quite interesting) and sifting through the evidence provided a welcome exercise for my languid mind.
So there's my two cents. ^_^

Thanks, animevgirl! I was hoping you would happen upon this entry since you're well-versed in gaming. I assume that the DS has also pleased you in entertainment value, which is good to know.

My pleasure, Alexiel. ^_^ To be honest, I'm not an avid fan of the DS and don't really play many games for it, but this is one of the few that took advantage of its capabilities and suited the DS pretty well.

Ah, alright. Well in any case, your two cents does help, and I'm thankful for that much since I only dabble in the gaming industry.

Having both the first and second game, and the third game pre-ordered, Phoenix Wright games give me a highly intellectual challenge along with a high entertaining feeling which just makes me want to play it more. If you're a puzzle junkie like me, you might just pick up this game and play it for as long as you can, being attached into the deep storylines and events that partake, until you have to do something else important or you notice that 4 hours had just passed by. This game uses the stylus touch screen functions of the DS very well, and allows you to not use the stylus if you get tired. I never really got stuck that often, but if you're stuck on a part and have nowhere to go, you might lose morale and just stop playing. Otherwise, the Phoenix Wright games are very fun and addicting. I highly recommend this game if you're going to grab a DS. Although... once you're finished the game, there is little replay value as you know what to do, unless you just want to read the stories again, which are built very well.
Good luck on your decision =].

Oh man Alexiel. I can totally relate. I don't own a DS either but I've always wanted to play Phoenix Wright. It just seems so different, and it seems like it would be a lot of fun. It better receive some support out here in the west, because I've been thinking about buying a DS.

man, reading all these comments is making me think I should hop on the DS bandwagon soon. I like court drama and I have a degree in criminal justice, so these games would be a good trip down Memory Lane.
I'm like you though, my gaming energy is dippining in the low-zones. I haven't even finished Xenosaga II... or (and don't tell the fangirls) Kingdom Hearts I. I should get a DS before I leave for Japan, but I'm still waiting for a price-break, so until then, I'll just enjoy my anime.
