Niagra Weekend

August 4-6 in Canada was the long weekend where Monday was deemed "Civic Holiday". Me and a friend had planned a get together to see "Cirque de Avaia" a while ago, and thought that this weekend would be the perfect opportunity. Cirque de Avaia is like a circus or acrobatics performance, think of Kaleido Star xD.

These images were taken from their website actually, you are probhibited from using any recording device during their performance so that's why I don't have any pictures of my own, you can visit their website: www.cirqueniagara.com.

I don't think I need to say that the performances were amazing, but they were! I was thoroughly impressed by their dances, balance, and strength! My favourite would be the first screencap, and it's not because the boys were cute (not entirely anyway...) >.>;

I did so much in just one day and while Cirque de Avaia was my favourite event of the weekend, I managed to do many other things.

Downtown Niagra was definitely a tourist-y place with plenty to do, there were many photo opportunities, I personally don't like to be in photos, but me and my friend managed to take 200 photos!

The "haunted house" you see here is not one of the bigger ones where you're walking completely in the dark, people touch/grab you, or you get stuck in secret compartments - no. This is a smaller one where they have a lot of scary looking displays that pop out suddenly. There are also unstable grounds. I will admit that I was scared, scared like a nad. I was holding my friends hand the whole time (poor girl), and I screamed like a 12-year-old girl (wait a minute...) the whole way. It didn't really help that there were people in front of us that constantly screamed ON PURPOSE just to make me scream. I found it amusing how there were doors halfway in labeled as "Chicken Doors", hehe.

The wax museum had a lot of very real looking stars and other famous folk. So much detail in everything, the colour of their eyes, their nails, they even have facial markings! That's me there (second picture, above) standing between Ron and Hermoine from Harry Potter. What I loved about this attraction was that there were plenty of photo opportunities. They had many rooms where they input sceneries with certain celebrities, and perhaps a chair for you to sit with them.

I think the most interesting building was the "Ripley's Believe it or Not" one, it had a lot of neat facts and achievements. The man born with two iris' in his each eye was particularly noteworthy. There was a complete art piece made of laundry lint, world's tallest man, plenty of animals with an unnatural number of body parts, and other neato things - too much to list!

Haha, I find this picture hilarious, we were trying to do Macaulay Culkin's "Home Alone" facial expression in front of this waxed Michael Jackson.

lol, this picture was fun.

Me and my friend Ashley in front of the Chapel that was at the back of the hotel we were staying at.

The famous Falls, except the last picture which is just a general picture of the more touristy street of Niagra at night.

All these displays are made entirely of lego! Woops, except the picture in the middle which is one of the "Believe it or Not Ripley's" building. Don't know if you can see the man there climbing the wire, but he was actually a moving dummy!

There was a lego exhibit, well, just one room, but this room was very impressive and very intricate. There was a lego Statue of Liberty, lego CN Tower, and lego Taj Mahal (first picture). I was blown away by the detail in Niagra Falls (look below), each blue and white is made by those tiny lego pieces... geez. Apparently the person that worked on this lego world spent around five years doing so, and it was all from his very own collection.

The tower you see there is not the CN tower, it's much much shorter; it has an elevator going up to it's revolving restaurant - a super expensive restaurant! Everything on their menu was over $50, I believe.

It was only a two day vacation, but it was so eventful. Me and my best friend Ashley also went through mazes, looked in the "Guiness World Record's" building, and took loads of pictures... it was tiring going home. The one thing that I wanted to do, but couldn't was to go swimming >:, the pool at the hotel closed at 11pm, and apparently, me and Ashley were late. Oh well, I got to see a cute waiter at their bistro~ :3.

I'm not one for touring places, but it seems like you had a great time there, Himitsu! That white dress you were wearing is really pretty too. I would have thought you would wear something more casual, but that must be a summer dress, hm?

Oh man.. you got to do a whole ton of stuff I didn't have time to do at Niagra. I thought the Guiness and Ripley's thing would of been fun.

I'm guessing the haunted house wasn't as lame as I thought it would be... or was it? lol

Nice fanservice shot Himi =)

Don't believe what you see! Himitsu is definitely 12. Clearly these pictures have been shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

I wonder if Cirque de Avaia is in any way related to Cirque de Soleil.

Are those Harry Potter kids you're posing with? Awesome...

tsktsk

A michael Jackson made out of wax and a paris hilton poster Oo

Well, I would say i wasn't that surprised to see that Himitsu was NOT a 12 year old girl but now i c why you decided not to go to Otacon with the rest of the A-S staff. I can Imagine Frundock waiting for a lil 12 year old girl to appear on his door step =)

Falls n' Stuff

I lived in Buffalo when I was a kid so our family used to go to Niagara Falls just about every weekend. I miss that a lot, but we still get a chance to make the trip every year or so.
Here's some trivia for everyone.
1) There used to be a giant red ferris wheel in a place called the Maple Leaf Village (a small amusement park-like spot) near Clifton Hill. It was sold after the Village was dissolved when I was 9 or 10 (about 13 years ago now) and guess where it went? Japan! Thanks a lot Casino Niagara.
If you ever get a chance, go to Suisha ("waterwheel" in english) Gardens over on Lewis Avenue. It used to be in the Village as well, but was relocated. Anyway, it's one of the best hibachi-style Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. I know those kind of places are somewhat Westernized, but it's still a great place to eat [sushi & sake!].
3) Don't miss the Whirlpool Jetboats. Voted best attraction since '92. And now for a few opinions. Dracula's Castle is better than the Frankenstein place and the Haunted House. Don't waste your money on the WWE ride on Clifton Hill. And yes, it's expensive, but Skylon Tower (the revolving restaurant) is definitely worth going to. Here's a tip: go for lunch. It's less crowded and not quite so expensive. :)
