Ippo Makunouchi

Hajime no Ippo series

jernas
Ippo has always been one of the best character that I favoured. The strength of this character lies in its logical pace of development. A person can get easily attached to this character, and the reason is simply because that Ippo as a character is on many levels highly realistic and on the long-run highly influencial. The journey that the character chose, is not only about the achievement that one gains from hardworking, it's about the spiritual journey through the soul, to rediscover the inner strength of each one of us.

vietsoulx
Ippo is a classic hero where you watch him conquer his problems through hard work. He is an honest guy who grows throughout the anime as a person so you just can't help rooting for him all the way.

nightmonkey
Makunouchi! Makunouchi! Wow, what can i say about Makunouchi, Ippo. His character development is quite amazing. He starts as a boy who yearns understand 'what it is like to be strong' and progresses into the Strongest Featherweight in Japan! You can see the progress of Makunouchi Ippo and how he defeats his opponents. Makunouchi Ippo. Definetely one of the top.

Haruhi Fujioka

Ouran High School Host Club

oldmanvegeta
One of the two Haruhis who has touched our lives, this particular girl is unlike any other in anime for the simple reason that while she can become exasperated and confused by the madness of the Ouran Host Club, she is also anti-stereotypical from the girls around her. Devoid of natural distinctions between men and women, while possessing a uniquely independent feminine quality all her own, Haruhi is a natural at charming both sexes and the show's audience with her tact and commoner-er-common sense.

nickofsatan
The center of a show themed about the growth of the main characters, Haruhi is more than deserving to be my favorite all time character. A seemingly plain student on the outside, there is alot more to Haruhi than what we originally see. She is very charming, compassionate, and caring, with a fresh charisma that is able to come off the screen. Though she is always very sweet and optimistic, there is a softer, weaker side to her persona. This depth of character combined with stunning artwork is the true highlite of the series.

hurricanedra
Essentially the sane adhesive that keeps together the crazy cast of Ouran High School Host Club, Haruhi Fujioka has the funniest (in their own way) comments that are saturated with sarcasm and realism that is so greatly appreciated in an anime with as much madness as Ouran.

Simon

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann

oldmanvegeta
Simon has become the epitome of what a real anime hero should be. His performance in Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann is top-notch, growing from an unassuming child driller in his village to a full-fledged epic leader of men who saves humanity from certain doom. He overcomes the most painful trials and tribulations through his own strength and with the aid of his comrades, without ever forgetting who he is, what he stands for, and that he must believe not just in himself, but that those around him believe in him as well. His is the drill that pierces the heavens!

battousaixx
Epic character in an epic anime. That's how I view the whole thing. Inspired by his "aniki" (in quotes because Kamina is not his true brother), he becomes the glue that holds everyone together through his inspirational speeches. Simon's power comes from believing in himself and in his comrades, and as long as he believes, that power never fades.

Nigoki
If Kamina is awesome, by the end of the series, Simon is beyond awesome. His character grows so much through the story, and in subtle and direct ways he shows that he's moved out of the shadow of "aniki" and into his own.

Clare

Claymore

nightmonkey
Clare...Clare..... Wow, where can I start? She has a very very sad emotional history which immediately hooks me onto her. She's outstanding. Selfless, friendly, not to mention quite cute, Clare is a very noble person. Claymore is one of those anime where you must watch it to understand the beauty and godliness of it. Clare rocks!

macnubnub
What can I say? A person who fights overwhelming odds against evil organizations while barely surviving. This gal can hack and slash even when time feels at its worst.

joaquimfl
Clare shows us that love exists even in the darkest holes.

Kagami Hiiragi

Luck * Star

pavyisku
A girl who is most capable of delivering punchlines with excessiveness, Kagami made it into my list of favorite anime characters. I think it's just hysterical when you find that she is the only one who criticizes Konata about her otaku habits and it's hilarious how they attack each other with remarks but still remain friends. Did I mention I liked how responsible and motivated she is? Being a great friend and a caring sister, I feel that Kagami truly deserves to be one of my favorites.

bluemage
Kagami is a strong character that keeps the logic of Lucky Star in check. Though she does get picked on by Konata quite a bit, it is her ability to counter some of the stuff Konata says that makes her oh-so-interesting. She is also the ideal big sister figure for Tsukasa, and I think this trait suits her well and shows her maturity in the series. Last but not least, she is quite kawaii and I love her expression when she gets all flustered and embarrassed!

Evangelion_unit3
The voice of reason of the Lucky Star girls. Intelligent and mature, she's a nice girl and pleasant to be around... unless you do something stupid. Just an ordinary girl trying to maintain her sanity amongst her crazy friends.

Lucy/Nyu

Elfen Lied

Objectivist
The story surrounding Lucy convey a critical lesson for our society. A girl as normal as can be (aside from the horns growing from her skull), provoking the anguish she had to endure. Abandoned by her family and ridiculed and betrayed by her classmates and friends. True, in the real world a child won't be able to mutilate people with invisible hands, but actions like this will create serial killers and rampages of anger and hatred towards mankind. In the end Lucy finds peace in the love of one of her victims.

bluemage
Lucy/Nyu's split personality is what makes her one of the most unique characters in all of anime. Nyu brings out the light side of Lucy, and Lucy brings out the dark side of Nyu. It is also the pain and struggle of surviving in a world as an outcast that brings her true feelings and emotions to the surface that every anime viewer can relate to. Finally, Lucy's psychic-like abilities makes her one of the strongest characters in all of anime as well.

Buby
Ok, I have watched a million horror movies and horror anime but I have to admit it: none of them were as scary as Elfen Lied and, more precisely, none had a scarier character than Nyu. She is the perfect combination of the most innocent human being and the deadliest killing machine. She totally creeps me out. Her character is so well designed that I personally think they should make a real movie out of it. She is fascinating.

Edward Elric

Fullmetal Alchemist series

Haruhifan
Whether it be the anime or manga, Ed's character has shone well with this amazing cast. Brash, yet quick-thinking, he even shows some romantic tendencies (more in the manga though) with Winry. He also shows true brotherly love to Al. Despire his size (and he'll let you know about it), he has a much bigger heart than any body can hold.

Flarethos
This character had a purpose, a goal, a need to do something. Anything that got in his way was stopped. He did everything with style and skill as well as with some laughs.

lexinator
Edward-o-kun is a character that most people can relate to. As we grow, each and every one of us has had to live with loss and FMA's main character is a perfect example of how we deal with loss as a child and as a man. Although most people think this story is depressing, I find it inspiring because it teaches children of today the value of life, and how to deal with regret, just as Ed did.

Kamina

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann

thegreatsaiya
He's a character in his own league. I can't compare him to any other anime character because there aren't any like him. At first he seems dense and his actions idiotic. But as the story progresses you learn more about him and how great his attitude toward life is. He instills courage in the fearful Simon and inspires everyone through his reckless and selfless actions. A man who bleeds loyalty and courage, Kamina is one of my favorite characters.

T-Rexx
The first thing you notice about Kamina is his confidence in himself and how that translates to his friends. "Believe in the me that believes in you." Combining this with his bravery and always at least APPEARING to know what to do, he becomes a great leader and friend to a show filled with exciting characters. It's impossible to really explain how great of a character he is without spoiling the show so just watch it.

Arankaru_Ichigo
The manliest man in the world. He started the Gurren-dan and shows the entire human race that everything is possible.

Saber

Fate/stay Night

bilyar
First let's start with the appearance of the character itself. Saber really looks like a knight but in a feminine way because of how her armor is drawn. She also looks beautiful for an anime character. Her real identity also adds mystic and flavor to her character. I also liked the way her character develops during the course of the series, from how she tries to adapt to the new world that is in front of her, to her conflicts with Shiro to her own past and how she tries to overcome it. Her battle with Assassin is one of the best fights I have seen. Overall the combination of everything she has makes her one of the most memorable characters.

Alexiel
I heart Saber like nobody's business. I have a thing for strong, fearless women. They are like a challenge to me that I want to conquer (coughgilgameshrefcough). Aside from Saber's VA being played by the awesome and very funny Ayako Kawasumi, the devotion and prowess of Saber herself strikes me even above my fondness of Rin. She deserves my vote.

Dan0989
The progress of Saber's character was amazing, I loved her at first and I loved her even more as the story went on. She was so socially awkward and it made her so kawaii!!! I think the line that made her my favorite Fate/stay Night character was "Empty stomachs are our enemies." I was laughing about that for days.

Revy

Black Lagoon/BL: Second Barrage

Hex
If a woman with a gun is said to be awesome, then a women with two guns is more so. Revy was, in my opinion, the yin to Rock, who is the street-stupid business man that tries to be morally correct in an immoral environment. However, the amount of ass kicking she dishes out is just as entertaining as her character's personality (and she kicks so much ass I guess you could say its part of her personality).

bloodydice45
The bad-ass in most anime nowadays are mostly guys, but Revy shows that it needn't be the case. She is gorgeous, foul-mouthed, drinks, smokes and kicks some serious ass. Possibly the hottest, most undesirable heroine in the anime world.

Fritz
She can kick your butt from here to Roanapur, but would prefer to fill you with lead. Fiery and deadly, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed with ambidextrous thrown in just to keep things exciting.

Ichigo Kurosaki

Bleach series

urj
The protagonist from Bleach. Although he may be plagued with cliched shonen stereotypes, he is still one cool dude. His main strong-point is the strong feelings of resolve he sends out, and his ability to inspire and bring the best out of the people around him. He proves himself as the motivation for many core characters in the series; Chad strives to prove himself to Ichigo, Inoue strives to do her best for Ichigo, Ishida strives to rival Ichigo. Ichigo also strives to protect his close friends, and will undertake arduous journeys to get them back. Not to mention, he has some major cool-ass powers!

Haruhifan
For once I truly rooted for the protagonist outright, even with many intriguing side characters on both sides of the Human and Shinigami world. He keeps evolving and fighting his personal demons to save his friends and become a better fighter. We always miss him when he's not on screen, a testament to why he makes this series so good.

caballerosecreto
Let me tell you something, this man is amazing. He overcame everything, he fought enemies anyone thought he had no chance against, and still, he managed to win. He learned from each defeat and kept getting stronger, his never-give-up spirit is simply impressive. He is not just a fighter; he is a brother, a friend, a companion and a human over all. He is not the kind of character who does thing to surpass others or for any selfish stuff, he is a character who gives his best, for others rather than himself.

Yuki Nagato

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Ropponmatsu
I think Nagato is an amazing character. Though making it very clear that she is not human, nor a real 'person' per se, I find it adoring to see that despite that, she has a very human heart and soul, in the way we define it. She kind of reminds me of how I am in real life; stiff as a board (I'm trying not to be, I swear >.<; ), but with thousands of thoughts and emotions going on under the surface. Her struggle between 'mission' and 'self' is very touching in my opinion, and she is definitely one of my all time favourite characters.

TrueMakenshi
The silent protector of the SOS Brigade. Hoping to see her sweet side in the second season of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, I condone those who think of her as the quiet and overpowered individual who wields unimaginable power. With or without her glasses, Nagato Yuki is not just cute, but a dependable ally in keeping the world in order against the boredom of Haruhi.

klorius
Almost redefines 'deadpan'; excellent voice acting in that regard. Together with Kyon, responsible for a large part of the understated humour that really drives the show, despite the over-exuberant Haruhi being the titular main character.

Srgt. Sousuke Sagara

Full Metal Panic!/FMP?: Fumoffu!/FMP!: The Second Raid

Uruz-7
Sagara Sousuke, codename: Uruz-7. Every place is a dangerous battlefield laid with deadly traps and every human is a suspicious terrorist waiting to kill him. His application of excessive military combat experience while trying to blend into normal society supplies us with endless humor which is usually followed by a quick beating from Chidori Kaname. He is a very interesting character indeed.

oldmanvegeta
Overreaction. That is the best word to describe Sagara Sousuke. While he is nearly perfect as a mercenary on the field of battle, he is disastrous as a high school student in peaceful Japan, much to the dismay of the girl he protects, Chidori Kaname. Sousuke can be the slapstick straight man, and yet, when the time for real action comes, he's up to the task, and is definitely one to root for. Even if the situation is ridiculous and misunderstood, it's hard to say he isn't cool while brandishing a large kukhri knife to save Kaname from a 10-year old "abductor."

Only_Anime
Being a military man myself, I can't help but laugh at the way Sousuke handles most of his situations. He's always thinking about how to do things the tactical way and throws common sense right out the window. Sousuke and Kaname are my all-time fave anime couple.

Kyon

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

hurricanedra
Kyon is simply an excellent combination of wit and sarcasm, and honestly, the only counter-measure to Haruhi Suzumiya's insanity. The way he so starkly contrasts the personality of Haruhi makes the anime so much more enjoyable.

shiya387
Oh, Kyon, Kyon, Kyon... his wit glues the series together. Haruhi seems interested in him… why? I'd love to know, too. All I know is that he's just like us: he tries to make sense of what the heck's happening, and he does a hilarious job.

dreamfar
Ah... Kyon, the (semi) main character of one of my favorite shows, the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. What makes him stand out from most of the other characters is the fact that he's almost like a normal person, with his relatively normal, drama-free life and sarcastic statements. The show wouldn't be as much fun for me without Kyon there to make comments on Haruhi's misadventures and logic.

Monkey D. Luffy

One Piece series

Jyubeii
Monkey D. Luffy is my all time fave character from any anime because i just can't find any character better than him. The words that he says have so much power in them like he says things with so much enthusiasm. The things that he says have already made me cry so many times T-T. And yeah, I just haven't found any other character better than him ^o^

shiya387
My favorite character out of all the Shonen Jump mangas/animes is Luffy. He is the slowest when it comes to common sense and regard to consequences, but that ironically is his greatest strength--he faces the most evil creatures with no fear of death, but a sense for nakama, for dreams, and for precious treasures.

vietsoulx
Luffy D. Monkey, possibly one of the greatest characters of all time. Fighting for his dream with absolute determination and his amazing respect and loyalty to his nakama. Luffy is definately a hero worth watching.
