Light Yagami, a.k.a. "Kira"
Death Note
Lunatrix
Light Yagami. A crazy, genius-intelligent, Machiavellian with a mission to 'cleanse the rotten world'. He’s a complicated guy and he’ll make you question what is really ‘good’ and ‘evil’. He's extremely determined and he'll do anything to get what he wants - no matter who stands in his way. He's brilliant and he knows it – the electrifying strategical moves he makes are amazing, and you'll cheer him on just to see what thrilling action he takes next. Light Yagami is an extremely interesting character with an exceptionally strong sense of 'justice' and honestly this paragraph isn't doing him justice at all.

Being evil was never so fun. With hatred and cunning flowing out of the screen, Light is definitely a one of a kind character. Furthermore, his intelligence brings a new level of psychological mind war to death note that is irritably good and impossible not to watch. From the very start of the show, we can see where his intentions lie. And like a true evil-doer, he sticks to his plans and never lets up until death.

Light, Light, Light, if only you were real. Death Note could have gone anywhere with its original concept of a book that kills people, but Light was the defining factor in its greatness. You can't have just anybody with that sort of power, you need a cool, calculating anti-hero. His actions make you dive deep inside yourself and think; do I condone him or commend him? It was amazing to see his life unfold, and you have to respect a guy who's on the run from the get-go.
Maurox
Smart, intelligent, knowing his purpose and moving towards fulfilling it, Light makes perfect character for a villain. But is he really a villain? Exactly - the dualism of the young man, aspiring to be the new god - from one side, wanting to create just world without any criminals, from the other - ruthless killer, who is ready to take life of every and anyone who gets in his way. Pure awesomeness, hence he gets my vote.

Ah, Yagami Light, one of the most brilliant characters to appear in any anime. Cunning and ruthless, this genius has the uncanny ability to turn any (well, almost any) obstacle that blocks his path into an advantage and a weapon against his opponents; manipulating the inherent shortcomings of the Death Note itself in more than one occasion to gain a lead is just one example of such an action. Most people would call him evil due to his lack of sympathy and emotion for those caught in his schemes; but then again, isn’t lack of emotion one of the hallmarks of a God worthy to pass judgment?

Konata "Kona-chan" Izumi
Lucky * Star
hurricanedra
Ah, Konata. For obvious reasons, I could see why some people I know who've watched this will like her. After all, it's always easier to like characters that you can relate to. Who doesn't like to just sit back and be lazy, watch anime, and play computer games? I know I do. It's these similarities to real life that make me love Konata all the more.

You watch anime to see far off lands or characters with bizarre super powers and personalities. This is the first time I've seen an anime and seen a female version of me. Staying up late playing video games, watching anime, and cramming late into the night for tests...way too similar to my life. A character who's an outcast, yet is the main character. Lovable and confusing too. Konata is one of the best characters that has ever been created.

If I were to describe Konata in one word it would be “otaku. Her personality makes her one of the funniest characters to watch be it her constant anime references, intimidating the people around her or making completely random comments about things, "Which side of the chocolate cornet is the head?"

Ah, 2007 has brought a character that has quickly won me over. Konata is just one of those characters you have to love. She makes every conversation more than worth listening to. Some things she says just make your jaw drop in amazement at the complete oddness/awesomeness of it. Best of all is that she's a true otaku. Konata is an amazing character and was the main reason that I loved Lucky Star.

Izumi Konata is not just an otaku, although she may be glorified as the “ultimate otaku by some. She is direct, silly, honest, confident, knows what she likes, and also knows how to tone down or even halt her otaku nature to socialize in public and in private with friends, strangers, etc. At home, she shows she's actually rather responsible by doing the housework, cooking, cleaning, and more. While she certainly has some eccentric interests for a girl (eroge, galge, shounen anime/manga) which she picked up from her father, she has also proven to be very much a girl at times, as shown on the beach trip episode where she wore the school swimsuit to “signal a flag and hopefully pick up guys.
