Staff Interview - Himitsu

Please introduce yourself

Hello, my name is San. No, it's not a short form for "Sandy" or "Sandra". It's just plain San. I enjoy typing, I tend to type a lot, so expect long-winded responses :3

How old are you?

I am 12. Or 21. I mix up those numbers all the time.

Himitsu / Nom nom nom

Queen Emeraldas

Pirates or Ninjas?

I prefer Ninjas over Pirates. Pirates can be sexy, like in Queen Emeraldas. But Ninjas can be just as sexy. Ninjas are mysterious, stealth, highly skillful, and can kick ass! Pirates in Hollywood films however... have bad teeth, parrots on their shoulder, and spend their lives looking for treasure. If I had to choose whether to be a Pirate or a Ninja, I'd choose to be a Ninja. A sexy one. I think I'd look ridiculous as a pirate, I can't talk like one either. Oh! Did you know that September 19th is "Talk Like a Pirate" day? I wonder if there is a "Run Over a Puddle Like a Ninja" day.

Where do you live?

Hamilton, Ontario. Canada. It's near Toronto.

Favourite Colour?

I love green. There are other colours I like such as mauve, blue, pink, pastel yellow - but green is my favourite. I find it very attractive. It's the first colour I see when looking through multiple colours. I was really excited when Rhysticgon launched the green theme. It's very lush and fresh. I think I like green because it's representative of nature, and if you know me, I'm a big eco-nerd.

Favourite beverage?

Can I say water? H2O? Dihydrogen oxide? When I'm thirsty, I just want a big ol' glass of water. I also enjoy mango juices, chocolate soymilk, and green tea. Water is at the top though.

Favorite flavour of chips?

I'm not a fan of chips. I'd rather eat potatoes any way other than chip form. But if I had to choose a flavour of chips it would be... regular? Nah, that's a bit too salty. Ketchup?

Hey! Did you know that there aren't ketchup chips in the United States? At least, that's what I was told.

What is the most geekiest thing about you?

This is a tough question. I mean, most people that read this (this being an anime website) won't think I'm geeky at all. Sure I type at 120wpm, browse bash or 4chan, cosplay, and have seen an extended list of anime. However, in my opinion, I think the geekiest thing about me is that I indulge in retro video games. I rarely play games from consoles higher than the SNES. My favourite games are Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. In fact, I'm going through Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past right now!

What is the most geekiest thing that you own?

Damn. I don't know. In relation to the retro games comment before, I own the DVD of the movie "The Wizard". It's one of my favourite movies. It's about a gaming tournament!

Best. Movie. Ever.

How did you come to find Anime-Source?

Apparently, I became a member on May 10th, 2003. Wow! It's already been five years. Well, if I recall correctly, I finished up the anime Fruits Basket and simply wanted to know more about it. When I googled for Fruits Basket, I believe anime-source eventually came up. I liked the format of the reviews database, signed up, and started writing reviews myself.

Do you know him?

If you could describe your personality in 3 words, what would they be?

I wouldn't be able to describe myself accurately. Perhaps I'd go with "exaggerated startle response". I get startled very easily. With any sudden sound or movement I jump or get alarmed. Think of how a cat reacts when you try to scare it. That's me. The bad part is, when people find out about this jumpy reaction of mine, most take FULL advantage. By trying to startle me in every way they can, at any time.

Wait, to describe my personality? Three different words? ...I'll say: optimistic, friendly, and weird (in a good way, as most people say).

I've asked others to answer this question for me, and what I have received is:
- direct, pervert, asian
- erotic, exciting, cute
- intelligent, vertebrate, mammal (lol)
- quirky, cheerful, unpredictable
- sexy, nerdy, kind
- weird, open, easy-going

Outside of Anime, what other hobbies interests you?

Well, as mentioned before, I enjoy getting into NES or SNES games. Mostly RPGs. I like the cute stuff. I play piano from time to time, and tinker with adobe photoshop. I really enjoy image editing, especially to make the A-S banners, DVD covers, or CD labels.

What movies are you looking forward to this coming year?

I'm not very keen on Hollywood movies. But I did recently see Iron Man and enjoyed it a lot. I also saw a preview for Get Smart. It's the movie with Steve Carell, and it looks hilarious! I'm very interested in seeing that.

What other websites/forums do you frequent?

I frequently visit: and for the latest lolcats or loldogs. It really cheers me up everyday. gives me an abundance of anime images and wallpapers. has an excellent recommendations database, and I've contributed to some anime submissions. to simply go to one thread where there is a "guess that anime" game for keeping in touch with friends
and for some laughs. One of my favourites is this quote

What are some dreams/aspirations you have in life?

Well, I really enjoy helping people for some reason. I'm always happy to lend someone a helping hand or to give my opinion in something. Just to be an assistant to everything would be totally rad. Aiding to produce a song, directing a film, writing a novel solving a mystery, being in a band, creating a video game, a dance performance, an experimental study, research assistance. I'd like to try a lot of things. Instead, I'm opting out to be a teacher. That's the closest thing.

What's one odd-observance about yourself?

Wow. I never expected this type of question. Well, I know I make a whole slew of sound effects. I squawk, quack, beep, boop, squeal, snort, pew!... whatever onomatopoeia you can think of. These sound effects associate with any stimuli whether it's almost tripping, almost dropping something, sudden movements (coupled with a startle response), or seeing a cute fluffy animal. Do you know Nodame from Nodame Cantabile? I'm just like her. Except less cute.

Your username, any particular reason for choosing that as your net alias?

Ah, yes. Himitsu. It came from Fruits Basket. The first episode where Sohma Yuki doesn't tell Tohru how he picked up her things from the landslide. I liked how it was said, and liked the meaning of it. That's that.

What are some of your favourite anime/manga of all time?

I'm glad that this question isn't just asking for one favourite anime or one favourite manga. If it did, I'd have trouble answering it... and would give a LIST of anime/manga anyway.

(in alphabetical order)

Favourite anime! Fruits Basket, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!, Gakuen Alice, Ghost Hunt, Hajime no Ippo, Hikaru no Go, Hunter x Hunter, Kodocha, Lovely Complex, Princess Tutu

I laughed till I teared up in this scene of Fruits Basket

It's Princess Tutu!

Favourite manga! Deep Love, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Hana Yori Dango, Kagen no Tsuki, Kimi wa Pet, Kodocha, Penguin Brothers, Yoru Made Matenai

Favourite anime quote?

I unfortunately don't remember a lot of quotes from anime. I usually don't push myself to watch an anime series more than once. Let's see...

"Time waits for no one" - Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
"High school girls, high school girls, high school girls are waiting for me~ <3" - Fruits Basket
"I've always wanted to trip on a banana peel" - Azumanga Daioh
"What was that dream?! Freud would have a field day!" - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
"Yeah, wanna fight? I'll summon Bonta-Kun and he'll fumoffu your ass until you cry!" - Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!
"As long as there is trust, there is betrayal" - Battle Royal

Oh no! He has a power glove! D:

Favourite movie/TV quote?

"I love the power glove... it's so bad" - The Wizard (movie)

If you've been in conversation with me, I'm always quoting The Simpsons (TV). I practically swoon if someone "gets" that I'm quoting Simpsons, or inputs one themself! One of my favourites is when Mr. Burns asks Homer to leave where Home then replies,

"Or what? You're gonna release the dogs? Or the bees? Or the dogs with bees in their mouths so when they bark they shoot bees at you?" - Homer

I've attempted to spew out that quote several times, but I just end up giggling near the end.

How did you end up becoming a Staff member for Anime-Source?

Around September of 2004, I had quite a number of "good" reviews up (sixty) and atikiN sent me a PM asking if I wanted to be part of the A-S staff. I was approved by Kaiser and macerboy. I was really excited to be part of anime-source! However, they also asked for three sexual favours, my first born, and a Japanese tea set. I haven't given them everything yet. Sorry guys, that tea set will have to wait.

So, what are some of your duties?

Hah. You said doody.

Let's see. Being the Reviews Team Leader is some easy smeezy work! All I do is boss people around. Luckily, most of the staff members have a fetish for dominatrices, so everyone wins! I do help with the site though which includes: editing, rejecting/accepting submitted reviews, going over submitted notes or STUDD work, inputting screenshots/synopses/STUDD, and rotating the banners. Sometimes I code articles, or write articles where I'd code it myself. The latest article I wrote and coded was Denno Coil's Spotlight article which was some time ago. The last thing I helped code was... the Staff Picks for our favourite anime of 2007. These surveys are always fun.

I really recommend watching Denno Coil, it's one of my favourite series of 2007

Is there any info you can reveal at this time about any upcoming events, contests, etc... concerning Anime-Source?

Anime-source receives a lot of sexcellent submitted reviews and we're hoping to regularly bring attention to the users who write them. We'll surely continue with the surveys and excellent spotlight articles. Poor Frundock. We work him like a dog. Well, not just any dog. Those husky dogs where we say "mush, mush!"...

Next question please.

What's one thing you love and hate about Anime-Source?

I love the people. The members and staff are very friendly. You can ask for anything and they'd be more than happy to help you. I also love the Daily Releases section, how one can browse into the reviews database from there. Thanks ddog, holybell, Trunkz0r, and IdNoe!

What I hate? Hmmm. There's very little I hate. I dislike when some users send plagiarized work. That's about it.

It's Keiichi and Rika From Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Kai).
Rika is one of my favourite characters.

Where do you see Anime-Source headed for the future?

We've accomplished so much that it's difficult to say what to expect for the future. We have wonderful staff, members, information, applications. I'd like to see anime-source even more interactive than it is now. More contests, quizzes, editorials, announcements, and feedback. We all love feedback.

Best Work or Proudest Accomplishment on this Site:

Yikes. Well... I enjoy browsing through the old banners archive because I've submitted a few banners for A-S myself. I really like looking at my Hantsuki banner (below), probably because of the green! I guess being proud of that is kind of silly. I think my most accomplished work, though a bit old, is the Princess Tutu DVD review written with Kaiser. It received a lot of praise, even from the ADV guys. I was very flattered.

This banner actually fits the mood of the anime quite well. Probably because the images are from its OP xD

Before we finish, is that glass over there half-full or half-empty?

Depends how it got to that state in the first place. Was it once full and then emptied out halfway? That would be half-empty. Or was the solution simply poured into the glass till the half-way point? That would be half-full.

Do you have any final messages, comments, etc... ?

There are many ways to help us at A-S. Take a look at our Missing synopses or missing screenshots list. Participate in our surveys. Send us some reviews, STUDD work, or create some banners. Comment on the articles you read. Join in on the conversations in the forums. But I think what would make me most happy is that you have fun.
