Nodame Cantabille
"Allegro Cantabile"
by Suemitsu & The Suemith |
verysecretusername
Being an anime about classical music, it's only fitting that Nodame Cantabile's opening stars the piano. With the melodic intro line, and the catchy tune, Suemitsu & The Suemith weaves the piano and vocal melodies together to create an inspirational masterpiece. (I'm going to learn this for the piano with the online sheet music.)

This is one of my all-time favorite animes and the opening is on par with the rest of the show. Superb op theme music and the animation is some of the best I have ever seen. When I first watched the first episode of Nodame I realized that I would love the show after watching the op them song for the first time.
|
bigguy8323
A great beat, good lyrics, very catchy, makes you want to dance and cheer when you watch the series. Thats what makes a good theme and this is no exception, no problem listening to it over and over.
|
NeoAkira
The music and lyrics of the song go hand in hand with the anime itself and thus I think this perfect harmony between animation and music makes this opening theme the best.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
"Inner Universe"
by Origa |
BobSagat
I'm afraid "cool" is the only word that can describe this OP. I mean if I could somehow use this space to better invoke the feeling of awe, wonder and plain-out "coolness", I would. Sadly there exists no other word than simply "cool" so let me just repeat it a few times so that I know that everyone'll understand: COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL Now go watch it.
|
Ghostalker
Inner Universe is an excellent OP to an outstanding anime Ghost in The Shell ~ Stand Alone Complex. The OP really set up the mood for the show and it distinctly tell you what to expect ~ a sci-fi, futuristic, action anime with depth and certainly thought provoking.

This song is simply awesome. That's it. Can't say much else but the enya-sounding voice that proceeds from the artist origa produces a haunting effect that it serves as a suitable launchpad for an anime steeped in philosophical issues and abounding in depth. In fact for me it captures the GiTS series so well that I practically can't listen to the song without watching the opening video another reason why the song has such a tremendous impact.
|
Objectivist
I love the song way more than the opening animation. Not to say that the visuals were bad, but the music automatically dictates that the show is a cyber-punk type show.

Great Teacher Onizuka
"Driver's High"
by L'Arc~en~Ciel |
lifeline706
Despite the limited artwork and music of the actual TV series, the opening animation was anything but that. The wonderful artwork of the first opening, a gorgeous black/white monochrome rendering of Onizuka punctuated by flashes of colour just shaded it over the second opening. Not to mention the brilliant, rousing optimistic rock number, "Driver's High", by L'Arc-en-Ciel, one of the reasons why they are one of the premier bands of Japan. Quite simply one of my favourite songs.
|
Cherry-Kun
Driver's High is the song you need to listen to when you are alone in your car driving on the Highway. This song is pure freedom, it's rebel. It somehow motivates you to do things the way you want, at your pace and not caring about any canons. Which is Onizuka Ekichi's (22 years old) way of living. My favorite song of them all!
|
Guto_chan
It is a pretty good song with a somewhat good lyrics and sound, but I'm voting for it because it fit perfectly in the anime and it's ambient.
|
kovich87
Huge fan of L'Arc en Ciel. Really liked the song and I thought that it went great with the opening animation.

To Love-Ru - Trouble
"Forever We Can Make It!"
by THYME |
story645
It's fun and bouncy and great to listen too-even makes the fanservice opening (which it fits really well) tolerable. Works great as a stand alone song, and yet it still really suites the anime.
|
TrueMakenshi
Something about this song just makes sense. The addictive guitar riffs, the fun lyrics, the zooms of the cute girls as the song goes by ... yeah ...
|
Joepro
The opening song and showcase was very well constructed. Even though most people would find it perverted. It shows how the beauty of a womans body can be shown in an art-form. It shows how manga and anmie series are always merged together. You can never have a good series without good artwork! I don't know about you, but I like the artwork that involes woman since thats the number one piece of artwork..lol. Lets face it, one of the main reasons that I like anime is due to the fact that they show woman but they don't show them as objects to be obtained. Most of the woman in

series are in love with the male character, so all of their motives are based on the fact that they are in love. I like this opening because its catchy due to the fact that all of the pictures are focused upon. You see a gorgeous girl in front of you and then they shift your attention. The coloring and shading of each frame is very well made and the music plays a good role. I give this series two thumbs up for its creatvity. Besides...who wouldn't like a girl that can change outfits on a dime! Lol
Flarel
Great song, suggestive OP. What else you can ask for?

Neon Genesis Evengelion
"Cruel Angel Thesis"
by Yoko Takahashi |
Bowser
It may be way old compared to many of the other openings I predict will pop up, but in my opinion this one is a no brainer: this is how anime openings should be made. It shows the right amount of clips and sequences (that alternate between slow shots and quick ones) that will get you pumped up to watch the actual show whilst the music is catchy, memorable and sets the mood for whats to come. The fact that its old is not a negative either, it just adds on to it's status as a classic.
|
Animeintrostyle
What can be said? It's probably the most mature of all the intros I voted for. Some random clips in the Intro which seem to derive no meaning Like at the very end with Shinji blinded by a light shows how deep the series is and how even the intro is asking to be picked apart. The song also flows well with the animation which is very crisp for its time.
|
Tanuka
It's already been a while since Neon Genesis Evangelion ended, yet this song still charms me. Sure, it lacks some of the guitar riffs and synths that anime openings have now, but the song itself is mind-blowing and certainly deserves a spot on the top anime openings.
|
insomniac1970
This is a classic that is still good. From the opening strains, you know exactly what show that you are watching. I think that is what makes for a great OP.

Shakugan no Shana
"Hishoku no Sora"
by Mami Kawada |
Lightningcount12
Blue flames, creepy dolls, spinning gears, Shana's burning hair, and interesting-looking characters help drag viewers into the world of Shakugan no Shana. The song blends the themes of action and teenage angst well. Alastor's monologue to begin the OP only helps lend to the intrigue. Hishoku no Sora is the perfect example of what an OP should do, sound catchy and raise anticipation in watching the show.
|
bluemage
I love Hishoku no Sora for its fast-paced, high energy feeling! It gets me really pumped and in the mood to watch another episode of this series. The techno/piano arrangement of this OP is wonderfully blended in a way unlike any other. Truly a great OP!
|
NatureDragon
The time watch, blue flames (torchs), tomogaras and flame hazes just makes this opening very attractive and mysterious and cool =). The song was full of energy and with the battle scenes shown together makes this one of the best openings.
|
prokiller88
Hishoku no Sora is one of my all time favorites out of all the anime ops. The opening animation is a very good combination of pictures from the series.

Air
"Tori no Uta/Poem of the Birds"
by Lia |
bluemage
Tori no Uta is an enchanting song that really suits the ethereal feeling that the Air series brings. Lia's magical voice mixed with the stellar animation done by KyoAni makes it the best OP ever. The song's lyrics are also very meaningful and beautiful. Tori no Uta one OP that I will never get tired of listening to!
|
reika-chan
the animations are absolutely stunning. Throughout the whole opening and the series itself, i was amazed that anime could look that pretty. the song itself fits perfect, i really like the tune and how it fits with the anime.
|
thenewguy07
I like this song because it gives it a sad aura to the anime. Also it has a romantic drama effect. This song represents my feelings for this anime very well.
|
simpleandclean
The music is amazing, and really sets the tone for this dramatic piece of anime. Something a person can listen to over and over again. Part of the video was really good and went along with the song. The other part was character introductions, which were a bit off in their choice of animation.

Death Note
"The World" by Nightmare
by Nightmare |
kevinchaosvs
Stylish. Emotional. Gothic. The way the animation goes is just wickedly cool. Especially the way they synchronize the scene where the glass shattered. Not to forget how the OP itself felt so dramatic with the music complimenting the animation.
|
Cherry-Kun
The World's lyrics expresses perfectly all the feelings and desires of Light. For instance: "...Why? Am I a broken Messiah? Everyone dreamed of a paradise..." A paradise that he was creating, or so he thinks in his egocentrism. Thats why "The World" is one of the best Openings I've heard in my life.
|
bilyar
The animations for this opening are very well done. They play with the colors well. The song is a great rock song by itself, when you add that to the animations then you have a great combination.
|
wrek0shey
A really great OP that really makes you wonder if Light is doing good or evil to the world. And the staredowns between Light and L are great.

Bleach
"Rolling Star"
by Yui |
Xi-1
With 'Rolling Star,' Yui brings us a great set of lyrics and music that go well with the relationship and combat aspects of Bleach. It is the first song in a trend that concentrates on Ichigo and Inuoe. It carries a great beat as well, so it's been in my music library ever since.
|
lexinator
Excellent song! May be one of the best anime opening themes ever. Visuals also reflect the punk nature of the song both in style and costume design. Really gets you pumped for the series.
|
bilyar
The opening here is superb. The song is very very good by itself as it is sang very well. The animations do well to convey what the series is about.

hitokirijaywho
Great beginning, i even enjoyed it when they changed the opening Animation to the movie sequences.

D.Gray-man
"Doubt & Trust"
by access |
Xi-1
Five votes is hardly sufficient for all of the OPs I've heard and seen out of the ones in the Anime Source database, which is why I'm making sure to give one vote to 'Doubt & Trust.' This song exemplifies the relationship of collegial warriors within the Dark Order, but especially with Lenalee and especially between her and Allen, and in light of Allen's crisis during this arc. This song is about the battle of light and dark, as well as about perseverance, which also means that it includes a great deal of the spirit of D.Gray-man. Part of the reason I keep watching is because this series has great OP and EDs that reflect the nature of the anime and its characters. So my last vote goes here.
|
Laughingman107
D. Gray-Man opening three, Doubt and Trust, by Access is a great song that perfectly fits the series. The images flow perfectly with the music and make you wonder just what will happen in the upcoming episodes. The song is fast paced enough to get you ready to watch a series that involves fast paced battles and such which, when designing an opening, it's always good to have the pace of the opening match with pace of what happens in the series.
|
Trisoft7000
D.grayman has alot of very good openning songs, but this one went so well along with the animation. i just love the opening and the piano.
|
geokilla
The flow of the music is just excellent. The piano along with the guitars is a very good combination. Words cannot be used to describe how good it is.
